Caldy stuck at it. Defending well all game. Scored 2 long range tries after Ealing kicked possession away.  Try bonus thoroughly deserved. Caldy have some big boys in the pack

Did Caldy play well gerg ? Good game management after a sticky start ?
Or was Ealing poor on the day ?
Or does it show this league can still be competitive top to bottom ?

Perhaps Se7en could give an analysis ?

I'm flattered to be asked to provide an analysis of what has been, again, a couple of thumpings for Caldy and Cambridge respectively.

I will concede that a combined scoreline of 105 v 33 today reads marginally better than the cricket score I highlighted a few weeks ago, but that's being generous in this season of goodwill as it's 2 more heavy beatings at the end of the day.

What is more telling (and concerning for the two at the bottom) is the 1 Championship league table point (out of a possible 10) that both sides could muster between them today (and even that solitary point being achieved due to ill-discipline by Ealing and their 3 YC gifting Caldy a TBP from what I gather - albeit when the game as a contest was effectively already over after 30 minutes at TFSC).

Compare this to the 10 league points that Bedford and Ealing added to their tallies at a canter, both games sewn up well before half time. The league table doesn't lie, and nothing from today has convinced me that either team are not out of their depth. This is of course only my opinion, and I really don't mind being framed as the pantomime villain on here, it certainly gets people talking!

Game of the day for me was at The Bay, well done to Nottingham taking the spoils from what seems to have been a very entertaining and well balanced match, Champ rugby at its best.

The real thing I'd like to know from today though is whether or not there was any grass on the RAG pitch, and if there was did this scupper Chinnor at all...? Answers on a postcard

Missed my predictions for today but tomorrow’s games:
Ampthill 1-5 Cornish Pirates
Doncaster 4-1 Hartpury

What a brilliant result for Nottingham today. 4th in the league - that is some season they are having. Well done to everyone concerned. They’re putting other better resourced clubs in the shade. Bedford and Ealing did what was expected - kudos to Blues for getting a 5,000 crowd - I wish we had those kinds of numbers at Castle Park. As for LS/Chinnor - well who knew that having more than half of your team being Premiership loanees would work?. What a complete joke.

One thing that happened at Blues was we had a referee change at half time, presumably for injury.

Blues conspired to keep Cambridge in the game until half-time, by butchering several clear chances.
Cambridge also left points out there.

We had a couple of good attacks early in the second half, but a turnover gave Bedford a try against the run of play, then Bedford had a purple patch playing down the hill, a couple of stupid penalties, a couple of missed tackles and Bedford took advantage. Suddenly everything they tried worked, all the passes stuck. And they ran away with the game.

Cambridge did pull themselves together and managed to stop the rot, holding out for about the last 10 minutes, though the clock had one wrong, so it might have been more, or less.

The 5,000 fans had a great time, even the die hard Blood and Sand supporters - and at the end of the day, that is what it is all about.

I believe the original ref was fit enough to run the line, so I assume it was something like a tight hamstring - but that is just a guess.

A deserved victory for London Scottish ( and their 12 Harlequins ) today. They dominated the lineouts and generally starved Chinnor of possession, but although their backs looked lively, their main tactic was the high kick.

The successive games against Pirates, Doncaster, Nottingham and Bedford seemed to have taken a toll on Chinnor, with a threadbare bench in terms of forwards, and the front row played nearly all of the game. They have a few weeks to recover before facing Ealing !

Here is the detailed report for anyone interested

And yes the pitch looked in good condition !
