You are quite right RM2, it is a worrying trend for all of the reasons you describe well. I agree completely with both yourself and Storty on this topic.

For me it is the point you make about these soulless shells taking spots in Nat 1 at the expense of more traditional clubs who have grafted away and are often made up of local players, that I find hard to accept. The likes of Cinderford and Taunton in recent seasons, for example.

Thankfully, along with Dings this season, its only Leicester Lions that use multiple (i.e. 5 plus) DRs in their matchday squads week in week out, chopping and changing their lineups. The current league table tells a picture in itself with neither side competing anywhere near the top of the table, so the reliance on DRs is hardly a recipe for success either.

I don't think the majority of Nat 1 clubs need to resort to this, and so I am still confident that the integrity of the league will remain in good health into the future.

Sorry to derail the thread! I'm probably a bit harsh on Dings but I really dislike what they're doing. Especially when you compare how Rotherham and Esher have come up and gone about their business.

Have a good weekend all.

Cinderford and Taunton ?

Cinders have been leaning on Gloucester and Taunton on Exeter. When Taunton played at Chinnor two seasons ago Fayi-Waboso scored four tries and a year later was playing for England !

Yes he did, but neither club fielded 5+ DRs week in week out, which was my point.

Neither do the Lions, no idea about Dings, but I know from when we played against them in Nat2 West, they are a fine rugby club, not full of bitter twisted keyboard warriors mouthing off from their bedrooms.

Think that’s a bit harsh Tigerburnie.

People on here are concerned about the neglect of Rugby below the Premiership. DR’s have been a topic for years.

As I mentioned in another thread, the Bristol lads in the Dings team are young lads who need experience playing at a very competitive level. Bristol have clearly identified them as talented enough to play in their first team either now or in the future. As long as they and any other club abide by the rules then that club can run their affairs as they see fit.

The bigger picture here is the running of the game.

The “keyboard warriors” you refer to are genuinely concerned about the game, at a time when clubs who have earned the right to play in the Championship, risk being usurped by so called names who believe they have the right to play there, which has a knock on effect down the pyramid.

Clubs such as Cambridge & Chinnor in my opinion were treated appallingly in the new cup competition, yet this seems to be ok?

Not happy that the Premiership is a closed shop in all but name it seems the intent is to do the same with the Championship.

No, this is much bigger than just one club. Rugby at this level is flourishing and promotion is earned by exploits on the field, not by the decisions made in a boardroom.

Regarding the debate about DR players, Taunton have without doubt benefitted from the DR regulations having fielded good players from Exeter, Bristol and Bath. I think a contributing factor is having lost your best young players to the premiership academies, you'd be daft not to accept DR players.
I may start a thread about my dissatisfaction with the academies!

We all agree the problem and it's solution lies with the RFU, so if clubs have a concern they raise that at the appropriate level.
Supporters sl@gging off other clubs because they are jealous does not help the game and does paint the club they support in a bad light. A conversation like those being spouted on here, would likely lead to a fat lip if they were in said club houses. So keyboard warrior fits the description.
I am as passionate about my clubs and the game as anyone, but I do not bad mouth other clubs if they are not breaking any rules or bringing the game into dis repute.

Lol, massive overreaction from TigerBurnie.

Threatening fat lips now LOL

Calm down mate and enjoy your weekend.

I'll just do predictions without any comments going forward. Not worth ruining the harmony of this board. Apologies all.
