Does anyone have an idea how many clubs are not in the league competition? Makes me wonder whether dropping out could be more rewarding than being in!
I follow a couple of London clubs, Hackney and Millwall, who are in the lower levels but only play about 20 fixtures including some 2nd and 3rd XVs |

In the North Bedfordshire area, three clubs play in the East Midlands/County league. Basically Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire, with Nortn Bucks and Huntingdonshire part of Cambridgeshire.
Sharnbrook, Kempston and Swifts. Northamptonshire is home to Wellingborough OG and Northampton Outlaws. Outlaws also are affiliated to IGR, International Greengage Rugny one of a few clubs outside London, Northamptonshire’s only Greengage/Inclusive club.
Millwall actually are in RFU Counties 2, so main stream league. |

The older I get, the more the RFU leave me confused.

The County leagues are part of the pyramid, as there is automatic promotion and relegation. However, the merit tables aren't. |

Generally, no, it isn't. Most 2nd and 3rd teams are in leagues or Merit Tables. Merit Tables are essentially leagues without as many rules. EG if you run out of props one week you can rearrange rather than concede the fixture. The teams listed by Kempston blue are in Merit Tables except Outlaws. I expect Millwall (who I played for in 2001) are in a league with 2nd teams.

Millwall 1st XV are in Essex II - no second XVs. Essex were one of the counties that voted against having 2nd XVs in the main league. The 2nd XV in the Merit table, with a mix of 1st and 2nd XVs. Edited by Camquin - 02 Jan 2025 at 11:03 |

If you pulled out of leagues you want to know you have enough games to keep players interested.some players may like the competitive nature of leagues and then look to s neighbouring club I leagues.

Sorry Outlaws are in Merit League. https://www.englandrugby.com/fixtures-and-results/search-results?team=14924&season=2024-2025#results My mistake. Historically they only played other 'inclusive" clubs. I didn't check.

This is what Merit Tables do. Keep some semblance of competition without the rigmarole of league rules. Helps clubs who don't have loads of volunteers.
