How many have sold to Quins types though?
Not knocking it, mind. Good effort.

Fair play... I see this game, as well as Tigers/Nottingham, are 3pm KOs. Seems strange to me that clubs wouldn't make at least a 15-min concession to there being a big England game on, with the likelihood that KO at 'Ally Pally' will be prior to the Prem Cup game concluding...

Ah, resorting to personal insults I see...always a sign of class. Well done to the Champ teams last night, gave a good account of themselves on the whole. Good luck to those still yet to play, Ealing v Quins particularly could be a classic.

I for one would love this sort of competition to grow, reminiscent of the old cup knockout games in the John Player Trophy, rugby's version of the FA Cup.

John Player, Pilkington and Tetleys Cup . Allowed the amateurs to get a chance to play the sham amateurs . I played for Ealing against Harlequins who had 5 International players playing. Harlequins won I recall 27 to 12 . We had other cup games against Met Police , London Irish , Saracens and Ealing did win against Richmond who were considered a first class team ( a term used at that time in the 80,s.

It also led to some very one-sided scores. 80-7, 95-7 and 115-0 in the final season. The prize money was less than the cost of travel, even for Cambridge, so probably worse for the geographically peripheral clubs - and the RFU is not going to provide enough funding to fix that. The cup was scheduled for the catch-up weeks, so a good cup run and bad weather meant fixture congestion. Most teams only got one match. But aside from that, how did you like the cup. |

in answer to the original question '' is anyone the least bit interested '', it has taken 27 seasons for Coventry & Leicester to meet up again, so my answer is ''yes''. Sadly the days when we met twice a season have long gone

Doesn't feel like that long, John, since I was stood in the Cowshed with Lucie and her Leicester supporting schoolfriend and her dad, watching us being soundly beaten

Personally I like this competition. We get some fixtures against Prem teams and, in the Pirates case, two sellout games which has to be good for the finances.
The fact that two Championship clubs were excluded absolutely stinks. |
