Ealing Trailfinders to face Exeter Chiefs: Strong squad, but unfortunately a few key injuries with Dan Jones out to force the young  Worboys into fly half. Willis is on the bench, but I suspect has a niggle. Last week's captain is out due to a concussion which resulted in a 3 week ban, and Lonsdale goes to the bench.

It will be tough but Ealing are a physical team so if you can match them, you have a chance.

Winners play Bath, who got up late in the game against Falcons tonight and won 41-29. Bath were ranked above Ealing but below Exeter after pool stages, and I believe it's the higher-ranked finalist who gets home draw...

Aside from Slade and Feyi Waboso being absent, that is a strong-looking Exeter team so they're obviously taking it seriously. Good luck Ealing, I'm sure it'll be a competetive match.

Exeter 28 - Ealing 24 - FT - Ealing were up 24-14 at 60 mins, but then squandered a chance from 5 meters. Exeter picked up, raced away, and set up a score. Another swift try put them ahead with 8 minutes to go, and Ealing knocked on with less than a minute on the clock and a man overlap on the wing. Great match, and Ealing were in no way over matched.

Well done Ealing. I listened to the game and you gave a very good account of yourselves, and showed that you could realistically compete with decent Prem opposition. Wouldn't it be nice if you were given the chance to try?

I watched and Ealing did very well, doing the Championship proud. The difference being Exeter could maintain their level for longer as they are used to playing an opposition who can last 80 mins and not 60 mins.

The interview with the Captain Farrar was interesting, he was desperate to have a go with Ealing at the Premiership, believing they were ready, but also admitted the players had no clue of what was happening.  He said they aren't informed on any of the discussions.

That is interesting, and begs the questions why aren't they informed? It's their future and livelihood on the line.

On your other point, was it a case of the Chiefs fitness over 80 minutes being the difference against Ealing, who are conditioned for Championship standards? It sounded to me like Ealing were in the ascendancy early in the second half.

I'm not sure that fitness played a part in today's semi, after all Ealing are a fully professional club. What I do think however is that Ealing showed that a ring fenced premiership is not the way ahead. Post after post in all rugby forums show the dissatisfaction of supporters facing the same teams time and time again.

Maybe the way ahead is to open everything to promotion/relegation. Divide income evenly and let the "sugar daddy" teams dominate...

There might be more to this than meets the eye, hence the delay in any announcement about "Tier 2"

Ealing were on top and also had a massive scrum advantage especially when the first choice props were on. Exeter upped their intensity in the last 20 mins, whereas there was a drop off from Ealing.

Ealing aren’t used to teams being as physical as Chiefs, they struggled with Roots and Vermeulen at times, which is what you’d expect as they don’t come up against those type of players in the Championship.
