Premiership final tickets cancelled as government Covid-19 restrictions reduce capacity

Ridiculous decision.....Thumbs Down

Quote Thousands of supporters have had their tickets cancelled for the Premiership Rugby final at Twickenham after the government capped the attendance at just 10,000.

Premiership Rugby had planned to have 20,000 fans at the 26 June showpiece.

But that plan was dashed after the government refused to grant the event "test pilot" status.

......

Premiership Rugby are now working with the Rugby Football Union (RFU) to refund all ticket holders within two to three days, and will still invite 500 emergency workers to the match.

All 20,000 tickets have been voided, with priority now given to fans of the teams that reach the final.

This government really seems to hold a special dislike for Rugby...

When I see the words "Rugby" & "Government" in the same sentence it gives me the shivers;

I think back to "Boris-the-Buffoon's" tackle on a young child;

Thus no understanding of what any sport is about....
If it looks like a duck & quacks like a duck it's just my rucking luck!

Rugby unable to convince government that it should be one of the special test events!

I hate to agree with Lord Lloyd-Webber but the decision making process is opaque.

Agree CQ, so 22,500 attend the ENG v SCOT Wendyball at Wembley (25% Capacity)
but 20,000 at Twickers i.e 24.3% of Capacity cannot? "Test" event or not. I would also argue a full house in a confined Arena like Centre Court is more of a "risk" even with Social Distancing.

Its all about risk or so we are told by our governing body via the Government. Utter sh1-te

I would suspect the RFU haven't pushed as much as Wimbledon - but I agree - impose the same rules re testing all who attend and apply the same attendance limits as a percentage.

 So Wembley can have 60,000 football fans but Twickenham is limited to 10,000? Shows how little Ministers know about rugby.

I think this falls on Premiership Rugby as they put the proposal up so maybe should have got the RFU on board earlier, although on second thoughts they are as useless as a chocolate teapot anyway

After watching the rubbish England dished up on Friday compared to the semis on Saturday i think it is the 60,000 Wembley fans who are the loser in this oneWink

Yesterdays final merely emphasised the point made about the entertainment factor.

Tbh rugby at the top committee level has traditionally been rather conservative but there appears to have been a clear failure to press the point by those responsible. Did the RFU just leave it to Prem Rugby to sort out?

As for the so called trial events the football fans appear to be paying little regard to the rules. At Bristol last week masks were de rigueur for the duration.

They aren’t test events as there is nothing to test.

The capacity is linked to the financial state of the organisation and how much if any it has received in government support so far.

The Rfl is in dire straits hence they’ve been given a ‘life belt’ of an increased capacity.

Silverstone are about to go bust. 140k capacity bails them out.

Wimbledon was insured last year. Not this year.  They need lemmings, I mean punters to survive.

The recent ‘test’ events have seen the vast majority distance themselves from the late published report.

Evidence states people gained entry to events without any prior test, the PCR testing post event basically hardly happened and in some cases only 15% bothered.  It’s also been highlighted that community transmission in the areas was so low at the time of the event they were basically running events with no Covid around.  So basically a total and utter waste of time which no one really wants to put their name to but it got some cash flow to friends of government.
