If they don't pay all the money they owe then starting in NL1 would be around ten levels too high.

You are mis understanding, at the end of 24/25 season they will allow any or all of the three failed sides into the Championship, if they do not do that then they are "relegated again" so if they were to try to join the league after the 25/26 season then it would be Nat1 for season 27/28. Unless of course you a Brand too big to fail, in which case you can do what you want.

You're right TB - I do not understand what the Worcester administrator is saying will happen, nor your interpretation/explanation of his comments. What's happened to the 26/27 season, which you appear to have missed out?!

It seems to have been already agreed that the Championship will be extended to 14 teams consisting of the existing teams, the Champions of National 1 and one invited club? As I understand it only one club seems to have any chance & it rhymes with duster.

To me it seems bizarre trying to re organise in this way as it was set up by the people who have presided over a failing system for years. 
Weren’t there moves afoot to try to offset the no confidence vote with a suggesting of handing over the community game to the clubs?? The main bugbear here would be that National 1 is not a community league. It services the community with lots of community initiatives, but essentially is a semi pro league, with a good number of clubs wanting to get to the Championship. There isn’t any chance they might want to regionalise National 1 is there?

Lots of questions. But it does seem to me that as of now the only major issue that needs immediate attention is the Championship, which needs to move to 14 or may be even 16 clubs to give those teams a meaningful season without the nonsense side shows of Premiership cup which the Championship clubs have already declined for next season. The Championship clubs deserve a better structure and that must be next season. All this nonsense about the Championship lacking ambition is ridiculous. They have got there by their efforts on the field and that is integral to a league structure.

The Prem is a mess and time is needed to address that.

The Championship should be made up with the existing clubs and the top 2 or 4 from National 1 (they did four in 1995/96). The idea of introducing another club, which has already lost its place for financial reasons is beyond crazy and an insult to the integrity of both the Championship and National 1.

Beyond that the real problem is the Premiership and the hierarchy of the game, and in my opinion, a totally new one, as  the current ones in place to me are part of the problem.
 It needs a new broom to work out how it is that most clubs at the top are losing money yet their proposal seems to be offering a re organisation of the leagues below, when they should be looking at funding the Championship better in order that they may make a better fist of promotion opportunities, and by financing deals to develop the grounds of those clubs to meet criteria, rather than insist the clubs finance it all themselves without, as is at present, any guarantee that their application would be successful.

Protectionism must stop, and please give up this stupid idea for having criteria for promotion to the Championship. The main issues are at the top of the game and that is what must be sorted first. 
It seems they are just messing around to maintain the old status quo with self preservation being the main aim.

I also think bottom in the Championship should at least have playoffs against whichever team in ND1 that does not get automatic promotion.

In theory the season is already over and we are all just playing for pride.

The whole thing needs reviewing - the prem sides can’t possibly have anything approaching a sustainable future with only 10 sides in it, and with no additional competition to supplement that.  Take 4 from the championship into the new prem, 6 up in to the champ so there are 14 sides in both leagues, and re-introduce promotion and relegation from those leagues, even if it’s 2 up and 2 down.  At least 2 of the newly promoted sides in the prem and 4 in the champ would have at least 2 seasons to find their footing (and funding).

In theory that's great. But the prem sides are never going to agree to anything that cuts their funding. I think it's time to all agree that professional rugby has been an experiment that has failed spectacularly. It's decimated participation in the amateur game and the school game. Has taken 100s of millions of funding out of the game and left us with a huge concussion lawsuit.

There's a pretty large logistical hurdle here: N1 clubs 'break up' for summer on 26 April, while Champ season runs until 31 May...

I think it's obvious to most of us that automatic promotion/relegation is what should happen; but clearly the Prem cartel are never going to allow it. So we get half-baked "compromises" which are, in effect, ring fencing. I say let the 10 remaining (for now - more likely to go bust pretty soon) Prem teams get on with it. Have The Championship as the pinnacle of the rest of rugby with proper promotion/relegation every season simply on merit.
A 10 team Prem, with no relegation, looks very tedious - especially if they tag on another cup competition against the same teams. Might be a hard sell to sponsors and broadcasters.

The problem for the Championship clubs next season is the fact that their league season will still be aligned with the premiership. So there will be a number issues:
  1. The league season will not start until October, possibly something to do with the Woman's World cup? This causes issues for Champion ship clubs finding pre season warm up fixtures in September when all other leagues have started.
  2. If no cup competition there will be big holes in the league programme , as with Chinnor and Cambridge this season unless an alternative cup competition is organised. 
  3. If the league is increased to 14 clubs this will mean 26 league games , difficult to fit in a cup competition 
  4. League continues to match Premiership so will run until end of May so that the play off , should there be one will be in the first two weeks in June. 
  5. May clubs are already struggling with cash flow having no games for several weeks in the season
