The league that keeps on giving.

Well done Richmond, deserved Champions. Two very big games for Esher and Leicester Lions to come.

RM2, thanks as always for your comprehensive coverage this weekend. I believe that your friends(?) and neighbours up the road Leeds Tykes have secured promotion back to Nat 1 today, 13 points ahead of Sheffield with 2 games to play. Another Yorkshire side to keep you company next season. I look forward to your 'third half' for that one!

Yes Leeds deservedly wrapped up the title comfortably in the end but along the way lost at Lymm and had two very tight encounters with Sheffield.

Not surprised in the least as Rotherham and Leeds were a cut above the rest last year, and the smart money was on them to win it this time around.

As for next season, we need to close out this season and have two great games to finish off. Although they are not now as important as they might have been, it would be nice to win at least one of the remaining games to cement a top 3 finish, which, considering we only got promoted last season, would be a terrific achievement.

We have just run out of steam a little, but lost key players to injury (as have other teams) but for a first season back at this level, we can look back on a great season.

Match report from Dings website

Dings 41 – 39 Lions. A breathless encounter full of attacking flair and heart.

Dings Crusaders and Leicester Lions delivered a nail-biting encounter, with Dings clinching a dramatic 41-39 win in a high-scoring contest seeing Dings through to another season in National League 1.

The visitors started strong, controlling the set piece and taking an early lead through a Luke Bouchier penalty in the 7th minute. But Dings responded with grit, as Tomas Gwilliam powered over from a 5m lineout, converted by George Boulton.

The sides traded scores in a frenetic first half—Jordan Tebbatt crossed for Lions, while Gwilliam grabbed his second for Dings. Bouchier added another penalty. Deago Bailey’s converted try gave Dings a gap, but Arthur Allen struck at 40 minutes closing the gap to 21-18 at the break.

The second half continued at pace. Hands, hands and more hands as Tommy Foot extended the home advantage early, but Lions hit back through Jamel Hamilton.
Joe Jenkins struck for the Crusaders, countered by Malelili Satala-Navlivou’s reply for Leicester. Boulton’s penalty and another Hamilton try brought Lions within touching distance of the win.

Just as Lions threatened to snatch it with a spirited performance, Bouchier was binned for a deliberate knock on and shortly after, Max Rivers crashed over for Dings in the 76th minute, sealing a thrilling win despite Bouchier’s accuracy off the tee.
