Surely it is the number of DR players used rather than a polite acknowledgement from the other club the player is registered with that should be the issue.

But some people have odd ideas about what is acceptable and what isn't.

So it is OK for LS to put out a team 1/3 Quins because Quins do not acknowledge that, as far as we know, but if Ampthill do that it means they are an awful club, despite their being a community club running multiple teams?

If that is the hill you 2 want to die on I will just point and laugh to be honest.

There are a number of forum members who would do well to get off the moral high ground that they are perpetually camped out on.

At the end of the day, neither Ampthill nor Scottish have done anything wrong/broken any rules. I remember well the season that Scottish survived relegation (the last time there actually was relegation) at the expense of Richmond who went down. Scottish had multiple DR players in their ranks that day and attracted considerable criticism as a result.

However, if the rules/system allow for so many DRs, and by using them you will avoid relegation, of course a club will lean that way. To say otherwise (whichever club it may be) is fanciful at best, and outright d1shonest at worst.

For as long as tier 2 operates as a humdrum of both fully professional and semi-professional sides, there will be a constant requirement for the semi-pro outfits to utilise DRs to greater and lesser degrees. Were they not to, there would most likely be even greater disparity in match day scorelines each week.

I agree.
There may be clubs that survive without utilising the DR system and partnering up with a Premiership side, but most clubs do it and Ampthill do not use the system more than many other clubs.

Perhaps it is a childish hangover from how some rugby fans loved to hate Saracens and therefore anything associated with Saracens is worthy of denigration.

There are clubs which are self evidently just feeder clubs for a Premiership side and nothing else, they run nothing other than their 1st and second teams and an academy. There are venerable old clubs settled at this level and there are community clubs who have lucked out in finding a benefactor that allows them to survive at this level, but continue to run multiple men's teams, women's rugby and mini & youth set ups.

Ampthill is one of those latter sides; when it goes mountain pepper up, as it probably will one day, the club will continue to exist and thrive in their community at whatever level they settle at because they always have.

1/3 of their match day squad were from Saracens last week, next year it may drop slightly due to a change in the laws, I can't see that making much of an change to the way the club has been run over the last decade or so with a healthy and welcome partnership with Saracens that has brought on players who have gone on to represent their country.

The only issue I can see is if London Scottish won the league and decided to use Harlequins ground to meet the criteria for the premiership entry would they be allowed to enter as effectively they would be Harlequins .
