I've caused confusion. I added the brackets. The quote was from World Rugby officials confirming the on field decision following a complaint by Schmidt. It did read that the try could be rescinded on first reading, honest.

The bit that puzzles me is: "The [World Rugby] officials..."
Who put that bit in brackets and italics? It suggests that that wasn't included in the original quote.

I think it's the phrasing of 'world rugby officials' that has confused things. I take that to mean the officials on the day. i.e ref, assistants and TMO who officiate for World Rugby, reviewed the incident at the time and gave it the all clear
I can see why someone could take that to mean the world rugby hierarchy though. Obviously Australia can complain and seek clarification on that decision through the appropriate channels, but there is/was no chance of a post match change

I think FHLH is reading too much into this.
The quote says the officials didn't turn over the try. For me, that means the on field officials nothing more.

I seem to have missed the report of Australia asking for the try to be overturned after the game as all I can see are stories of them asking for an explanation of the decision which is entirely different and something that happens on a regular basis.
Could someone provide a link to a story detailing the request to World Rugby to overturn said try? Thanks.

who said this was reviewed after the game? the (match) officials reviewed it during the game, decided it was ok, and the game resumed (albeit only for 1 kick)...

A Lions tour isn't complete without some moaning about the referee.
All part of the background noise nowadays.

Here's a scary phrase: "The [World Rugby] officials decided not to overturn Hugo Keenan's series-winning try after reviewing a clearout in the build-up from flanker Jac Morgan as the Lions snatched a late victory in a compelling contest at the MCG." Overturn the try after the game??

I agree that the ruck as drawn is as dead as the dodo. And the laws as applied, have little to do with the laws as printed. If you actually penalise players who are offside, then the crocodile ruck goes away, as the nine is always offside. |

In fairness the terms “ruck” and “mall” as us old stagers knew them are obsolete. We now have something called the “breakdown”; the term is apt because any semblance of obeying the laws is out of the window at virtually every “collision”. Players off their feet, taking out players not directly involved, entering from the side and not moving away.
Refs could award penalties at every breakdown but the men in check suits would tell them that was making the game less appealing to the elusive new “fans”. No one wants a return to 1963 but the officials are on a hiding to nothing.

Simple fix, go back to "no hands" in a ruck feet only will stop players laying all over or diving over the ruck.

As a now retired referee I refer to the game principle at the start of law 13 “ Players on the ground in open play”. The game is played only by players on their feet. I would suggest that if players, both attack and defence were penalised for intentionally going to ground yesterday’s incident would be avoided. It seems unfair that the attack may lie all over the play to prevent the defence playing it. Whereas a defender is penalised for being anywhere near the ball,

i think that the Morgan clear out Debate will roll and roll especially in Australia. However I think that the issue with any Ruck and Maul is the clear out full stop. Only once did the referee penalise either side for reckless charging in and taking players off the side all of which must be off side as they had gone beyond the back foot. There were incidents in the first teat when Australian players took players who were not bound off to create holes for players to run through. It is becoming a "Grey area" which the referees are struggling to Manage

Out of the 10's available, the two "Finns" have not been barnstorming, ok, but not fantastic Marcus has lost a lot of form, so I would not be too surprised if young Fazlet was picked.

Probably, given daddy is the coach. I think some of the missed conversions will probably be the justification for it. (In seriousness, I know I make the "daddy's boy" jokes here but I do like Owen and I think its great he is proving the haters wrong in every Lions appearance)

Didn’t see a problem with Morgan’s clear out But then he grabbed Australian players legs and yanked him to the ground Is that not tackle without the ball However Russell should have gone for drop goal.
But as you say TB great test match
