Meanwhile, back at the BPA the tarmac layer is complete, apart from the locations of the pop-up irrigation sprays, which are expected to arrive very shortly. It all felt very peaceful down there this morning. It's still a controlled site, but much of the heavy equipment has gone, and only about half a dozen truck-loads of spoil needed to be collected and removed. 

Sp, now the irrigation sprays need to be fitted, and their six locations competed and tarmacked, and then the soft top layers can start going down. Sockets need to be fitted for the goalposts, and for the various flags needed for both codes and football - apparently slots will be put in for the flags, and then the final exact sockets fitted in the slots at the precise positions to match the pitch markings, once the green top is down. 

Anyway - pictures of pristine level tarmac available here...

Looks very like that of Bedford Athletic which from my totally unqualified eye is a superb facility. Maybe the Blues could train on it prior to going to Coventry.

I’ve found that making a weekly visit has been fascinating (even if just seeing a complete coat of tarmac slightly less so), and seeing the process from end to end has made me realise how big a job it is to get from a muddy grass pitch to (eventually) the artificial replacement. we have 2 of these pitches and yes it was fascinating watching them come to life. The rubber crumb all over the house after the boys come in from training is irritating tho

Latest updates from the ground.

The six irrigation spray heads, and associated access manholes are now in place just off the pitch, and their holes are being tidied up so that they can be tarmacked and have the top layers applied.
The water tank to feed them is in place. Very shiny it is too.
Flag and post holes have been set into the pitch. There are a lot of them as Rugby Union, and League, and association football all have flags in different places.
The main runs of fences are in place, with gates being fitted on t he Broomfield side.
While I was there today, the laying of the shock absorbing layer of bonded rubber particles was started.

We’re getting there. Probably only one more update to come, but to tell the truth it looks almost finished...

The matting is all down, and the sand layer is nearly complete. Only the rubber crumb layer still to go down. Yesterday (after the photos) the posts went up.

There have been suggestions we should paint it mud brown for familiarity.

The pitch has now been tested and handed over to the club.
First game is played on it today, by Coventry United, vs Haughmond, in the Midlands Premier.
Cov start training on it on Monday.
