Sarries try from yet another penalty

Sar 29 Knights 10

So another year where it would appear our players are coached to concede stupid penalties

Onward and Upwards C'mon Donny!

Game over 29 to 10

Our penalty count is something we need to be aware of.

Donny will be disappointed with how they performed after the penalty try and yellow card, it was their big opportunity to turn the screw. Credit to Sarries though, they went up a gear. Slightly surprised that Donny didn’t play more of a territory game especially away from home and only their second game in 11 months. Will be delighted with the parity at scrum time though.

Ealing 14 (2T) - Donny 10 (1T) at 33 minutes. Ealing down a man until the half. Very back and forth match. Donny looking much better than in the first match. Ealing fine in attack, but not putting in much pressure in defense.

Same score at the half. Ealing have had extremely little possession, but made good meters when they did. I'd like to see them spin the ball outside a bit more, though to be fair they should be up another try as a rolling maul clearly scored (on replay), but they were pinged for a double move. The considerable wind should be with Ealing in the second half.

Gerg - I think the touch called a double movement

Ealing 21 (3T) - 10 Donny (1T) - Steven Shingler scores through a rolling maul (yes really), and converts on 42 minutes.

Ealing 21 (3T) - 13 Donny (1T) - Penalty by Olver after a deliberate knock on. Ealing down to 14 again. 50 minutes. Wind affecting the game quite a bit now - several kicks on both sides missing touch or going nowhere.

Ealing 28 (4T) - 13 Donny (1T) - Guy Thompson scores in the corner after some trickery on the rolling maul from Ealing, who score a man down after ten minutes of pressure. Great conversion from Shingler. 62 minutes. Good restart from Donny.

Ealing 33 (5T) - 13 Donny (1T) - Score by James Cannon reaching over with the ball spun wide from a pick and go after JCR comes within an inch of the line.

Ealing 33 (5T) - 13 Donny (1T) still on 73 minutes. Doncaster scrum gets them out of a sticky situation after several minutes defending their own try line. Very impressed by the Donny scrum. Pat Howard down with a pretty ugly looking injury, after Luke Daniels left with a knock as well. Me thinks that 9 preseason games is a double edged sword.

Ealing 33 (5T) - 20 Donny (2T) - Ealing play some good rugby to get a couple of 5 meter line outs, but then a Donny player scoots out of a tackle. He then rumbles 50 meters, before Ealing called for a knock on. After the penalty and off the line out that becomes a break straight through the middle for a try.

Ealing 40 (6T) - 20 Donny (2T) - Rolling maul try. Honestly didn't see that try coming so quickly, but here we are. Guy Thompson gets a hat trick and wins man of the match. That's FT.

Ealing played well with ball in hand, but picking up two yellow cards, and bobbling several restarts will not go down well. Donny's scrum was their clear strength again, but I didn't see much in open play as they seemed a bit too ready to go horizontal - penalty count very well down on the first encounter.

I think we conceded 11 penalties from which you scored 4 converted tries, your other two tries came from poor exit kicks (1 definitely wind affected). The best try of the match had to be our second try by Kyle Evan, sliced through your defence like a hot knife through butter on a perfect angle.

Any news on Pat H?

The Evan try was excellent. Ben Ward said in a post match interview that Pat was conscious when he left the feield and he didnt think it was too serious. I don't know more than that.

Hmm I’m sure he was just trying to down play it but if anyone were to be unconscious for 20 mins I don’t think they are ever going to regain consciousness. Serious head injuries are a scourge of the sport, the authorities are going to have to do something to adapt the game we love otherwise in 10/20 years I think you’ll see non elite rugby disappear.
