Would there be interest from the Championship clubs in playing Ponty, Bridgend etc and the 4 regions "A" sides?

I would certainly be trying to pursue a cross border competition - it would need sponsorship and a TV deal but 10 English clubs, plus 12 Welsh, 6 Scottish and 4 Irish regional "A" sides to make eight pools of 4.
You could add the D2 and Italian Top 10 but that might mean slimming down the French league to make space.

Would there be interest from the Championship clubs in playing against Ponty, Bridgend etc and the Regions "A" teams?

I think we have been round this bend before, Cup competition with Welsh Scottish and Irish teams became pointless with low crowds and teams putting out scratch sides. Funding pointless cups became impossible and there was no interest from TV. I believe only league rugby with promotion and relegation is the only thing players, clubs and sponsors want.
With the RFU money falling , clubs will begin to rely on Sponsors (donations) more and more, smaller leagues with less home games will lower the profile and put sponsors off. So in my opinion a minimum of a 14 team league is the way forward. I have yet to hear from anyone who thinks differently and their reasons. So why the study group which needs to take 4 months. Please explain the logistics??!!

The only Cup competition that would work would be if the Premiership and Championship integrated their cups. You'd still have local derbies but you'd give Championship players the chance to take on the "second string" of the Premiership who will be out to push for their own spots. It would be much more exciting than the Championship playing their limited club pool over and over a season

10 years ago maybe. Wouldn't work now given the number of DRs or partnership arrangements (and I know that this isn't all clubs at level 2). You might get some first team squad players, but you don't want to break them before the next league match, and the rest of your 'second string' are probably already playing in the Championship.

It would represent an exciting opportunity for the fans to watch several of 'their' players playing against them in different shirts, alongside other players that they last saw playing for last week's league opposition, or some 17 year old academy players that they remember from the u14s.

For the players, it's against Steve rather than with him.

Championship v National 1 would probably be better if variety was what was wanted, but then there are a host of reasons why commercially (and from the point of view of the Championship clubs and players) it's not a good idea either.
keep the faith

Whilst all these arguments are interesting the discussion is becoming cyclical. The answer all clubs at championship, Nat1 and below is what size will the Championship league be in 22/23 12, 14,16? and how many will be promoted from Nat 1?  and will it be over 1 or 2 seasons? It is already complicated with all national leagues going down to 14 teams.
Just make a decision!!

No point making a decision now when you can wait until half way through the season and then screw up everyone.
