Since the setting up of this board in 1998 we have been fortunate to rely on the generosity of a number of people in both time and money.

An anonymous donation has kept the board free of adverts and the technical assistance and hosting of the board by Robin (Wonderbison) at his own expense, both financially and time wise. We are eternally grateful.

However all good things must come to an end as circumstances and technology change.

We need to move the board to a new server and in order to keep most of the content the easiest option would be move to webwiz server. However this would come with a monthly cost and I hoping that I can ask you to donate to cover this going forward.

Alternatively if anyone has the capacity to host the board please let me know.

Thank you and if you have any questions please PM me or email me at Tackler7@yahoo.com.

Hi Richard & Maulers;

Let's start the ball rolling;

We have about 100 regular members;

If we were to have a annual / monthly subscription based on 100, what would the figure be per member???

If it looks like a duck & quacks like a duck it's just my rucking luck!

There are a number of package options which come with different costs.

Split between a small number of members we are talking a few pounds each.

I'm away for the weekend, when I get home ill firm up the options. Thank you.

Sorry Richard, but when I come on here the majority of the posts seem to to be about the Premiership and Championship and so "I'm out"

To be fair, we have not had much lower league rugby for over a season.

I will be more than happy to contribute. I think that it is important to reduce the barriers to entry, and not make anything too exclusive, otherwise this relatively niche board will swiftly dwindle away to nothing. Personal preference would be to have a yearly target/fundraiser so that we don't have a constant donations bar to keep an eye on.

I agree with both posters above. The national league sections are usually very lively and really the only place where issues affecting those clubs are widely discussed. I would say in a normal year they are more active that the championship one, just spread out a bit more so not as obvious

I would not want this to become subscription. Lurkers and occasional posters are important and as gerg has said without them it will dwindle. I know that makes less certainty for Richard et al in getting costs covered and some will pay so others benefit but that better than it becoming exclusive.

Maybe run a 100 club type draw so people have chance to get a return but makes sure costs covered? I know that is another job for someone so might not appeal

I am happy to put my hand in my pocket, and if a few of us do, it should not be very much each.
But I would want access to be free and like the fact there are no adverts - unlike some other boards.
We need to wait for Richard to run the numbers.

I read the board a fair bit and although I don't add much I would be happy to contribute. Enjoy reading anything about club management.

Thumbs Up

Not a regular poster, but a daily viewer. More than happy to contribute to its continued existence.

Although not a regular 'poster' I do value Rolling Maul and read the Championship forum on a daily basis.
My club's fans forum (Bedford) has withered to such an extent that it is now moribund and this makes Rolling Maul my 'go to' for information, comment and discussion. It is well managed and for the majority of the time all discussions are well mannered and constructive.
Let us see what the proposed costs might be.

Thank you for all the replies and offers.

We have someone who maybe host the board and talks will be held to see if this is technically possible.

I'll update when I know more.

I have time but little money to spare as a retiree, happy to help moderate or something like that if required, give us a shout if I can help, I already moderate a forum for a well known magazine.

Much as I enjoy the forum, as a recent retiree I'm now living on a reduced income and looking to cut expenditure not increase it.

I hope a way can be found to maintain this as a free forum, especially now we are in sight of a return to rugby.

Richard

As someone who has enjoyed and used this forum since 2007 it would be the least I could do to support and contribute to any costs.

All the best
