How about Richmond Yorkshire -there is one and would seem appropriate. Bit like Saracens finally apologising and admitting they will be over the salary cap by the end of this season if they do not get rid of some players.

I quite like 'Roundhead Phoenix' as a name. It won't be for long, so it doesn't matter.

The poll was run by a supporter as a bit of fun. The change back to Leeds Tykes seems nailed on, subject to the usual RFU approval. I'm not sure anyone expects Phil Davies to do much more with the squad we have than Martyn Wood was able to but his arrival has certainly perked up some of the long-time supporters (me included) who haven't bothered much this season. The suggestion that there could be a future after relegation goes against what I had always assumed, but can't be taken as certain given the way our investors have comported themselves lately.

That's easy for you to say.

To some extent.
If the powers that be have any sense they will know that those games are lost. So they can give him a month, so he can plan a four week training scheme to build to Nottingham at home. |

Moreover - surely Davies will have come in with the assurance of new personnel to support his mission?
As you say Camquin, they will be targetting matches now. Home games with a few more Tykes fans could well yield the odd win and - without stating the obvious - they only need to do better than the next worse side to stay up. Last game of the season - Bedford away - could be interesting.. Edited by B Cap - 08 Jan 2020 at 20:22 |

Leeds have not really been competitive in any game so far this season, so it is a big ask for Phil Davies to magic a win or more importantly 4 or 5 to overhaul Bedford. Unless of course a host of new faces appear . . even then I think survival in the league is unlikely.
Will this move bring the crowds flooding into Headingly . . . very very unlikely, even in their heyday crowds were pretty miserable. But I presume Mr Davies would not have accepted the job with assurances about future funding and player recruitment?

Where are these new players coming from. If I was a Kiwi with nothing better to do I’d want the whole years money up front and the best medical insurance money can buy.

Looking at the big picture, with 15 games to play, Tykes need to secure 4 more points, before game 22 , than Bedford (as it stands ) to set up a winner takes all ( or loses all ..) final game at Goldington Road in May.
Is this possible? |

They should have been dealt with properly in the first place by the Union, What has been allowed to happen by them is an injustice The demise of Hull Ionians a legacy of Leedshires position and what did they then do but discard the man they stole to help them. Its a very very sad state of affairs .

Maybe a dodgy deal with saracens for some spare players to effectively appear to lower the Saracen wage bill below the cap whilst getting the "right" clubs into the right leagues before raising the drawbridge

That is it , there is the problem . What is the plan to get the right clubs the required right side of the fence.

I actually wonder of the Tyrells Women's Prem set up was a dress rehersal
There the clubs had to apply to have a place, the winners were chosen (by some secret means) and in return for also promising to run a Centre of Excellence as part of the player pathway they got the promise of no relegation for 3 yrs. That period is now ending, the 10 teams will be ranked depending on various measures including on pitch performance. The top 6 will be safe the next 4 will be pitched against any teams wanting to join and the best 4 of the combined group of teams offered the places for the next period

Problem is clubs like Leeds shire are allowed to get away with deeds that go unpunished its totally wrong. it sends the wrong message out and brings the game into disrepute. It also makes a mockery of the Championship in this case when clearly they should have been demoted certainly One maybe two Leagues ! the blame lays in both camps Leedshire mismanagement The RFU no Clue at ALL ! Conclusion game in disrepute some Championship games a joke.

I quite agree - teams that go bust should be relegated (at least 1 or 2 levels), it is far to easy to liquidate, pay creditors a pittance and continue at the level they are at with either no or little points deduction. Plymouth comes to mind as another recent example. Compare this with the punishment meted out to yet he likes of London Welsh and Richmond in the past and one wonders wether it is a case of 'who you know' that determines punishment. |
