Breaking news: Roth overcame a tough first half where we trailed 14-12 to gain a bonus point win by 36 points to 14The bonus point try came in the last minute so Roth go into the last game 2 points ahead of Leeds.

No disrespect to Leeds who have been absolutely brilliant this season but what a huge result for Roth. Go on Roth. Nail it next week. Best of luck to both Roth and Leeds in the final game. All the best ST

It’s not a foregone conclusion for Roth next week against a Billingham side battling against relegation but today was probably the game that Leeds had more hope of a slip-up in. If Roth go up next week they w h deserved it because for a large part of the season they’ve been behind Leeds and have had to win week-in, week-out to stay in touch and that’s not easy. After the defeat at Leeds they probably knew that one more defeat and it was game over. It’s not easy to keep reeling them off game after game.
You would have to massively feel for Leeds though if they didn’t go up. To lose only two games all season and not get promoted would be extraordinary really. It’s a shame that there’s not some sort of play-off for the 3 teams that finish second at this level in the respective leagues. |

Tough game today for Roth against a fired up, well drilled Sheff Tigers team. They have some handy players in their squad and are probably in a bit of a false position. Tigers played a highly aggressive fast paced game and had us pinned back for most of the first half. I have to say however, Roth did very well to deal with going down to 13 men in the first half. Tigers could have been up by way more at half time.
In the second half we came out strong, reduced the penalty count and we managed to implement our game plan to secure the win. We played right until the last minute scoring a 4th try in the last play of the game showing great professionalism and desire. The game was far close than the score suggests. We managed the game well, Lloyd Hayes kicked us into the lead in the second half and then we just kept collecting points but Sheffield were making us work extremely hard. You could see the frustration they caused Roth. Best of luck to everyone next week in our final games of what has been an amazing season. If we do gain promotion I will miss Nat 2N very much next season. All the best to everyone and a big thanks to all the teams, coaches, players, staff, fans etc for a great season of National League Rugby! |

I echo your comments Chris.
It’s a great league to be in. There are some great clubs in this league and Nat 1+Nat 2 are free from the politics that have prevailed for more than 25 years at the highest echelons of the game. There is a great calendar and a home game every other week. The more localised leagues also help with travel time & the costs that entails. |
