Just wanted to thank Canterbury for leave a good few crates of beers for the Hinckley lads at the weekend. They have had to call off their trip to Leicester Rd twice this due to COVID, so a really nice touch from them appreciated.

8 home grown Hincks players in the squad at the weekend, with 21 players out injured, pointing to a bright future. Although this non relegation year is a pain in some ways, it is really giving us an opportunity to invest in some younger lads and they and the club will be better for it.

an excellent result  for the the Wolfpack.....their very strong finish to the season continues.  Any of the title challengers that encounter them should be fearful Wink

the Leicester derby looks to have been a well contested game, i thought Lions would win more easily but at the conclusion....it was much as expected by most.

Tragedy at the Rugby Park this afternoon OuchCry  very very well done to Esher.....playing until theend and against 14 men for the last 10mins....managed to get over the whitewash with the the last play of the game to get the result and go top.  They are clear favourites for the title now Clap
I think that it is fair to say though, for the naysayers, that this great result, was achieved without either of their most recent and impactful signings.....messrs Cokanasigna and Pozniak.

Not over yet though.....never say die....never surrender TongueBig smileWink

Nice comments, Darth. Just a factual correction - Pozniak has been at Esher all season, he only got into the team recently because of injuries. Yesterday both Lang and Rowland (3 tries between them) were coming back from injury, in Lang’s case since before Christmas.
I had been worried about our pack with both tight heads - Skoumbourdis and Zeiss - missing but Coutts did a good job out of position, I hear.
Still a few more twists to come, I expect, but the return fixture on 23rd April will be a tasty affair!

Esher probably just about deserve the win on the basis of an excellent line out and the fact they made very few mistakes when in possession.

However, the reverse fixture in a few weeks time could easily go the other way.

Whatever happens, the promotion battle is certainly hotting up with just 3 points between the top 3 and Clifton a further 3 points back with 6 games to go - could easily go down to the wire.

As far as i know there is no offside in goal so a player can come from in front of the knock on without being penalised

While you cannot have a ruck, maul or scrum in-goal, and therefore those offside lines go away; I believe you can be off-side in open play.

Time for a bit of (uncharacteristic i hope) whingeing from me.

Earlier in the season....at the Haberden....we had a player red carded in the first half for punching to the head.  which did not happen.  We managed to battle through with 14 men and won 1-4......but might we have got the TBP (we usually do) with the extra man.
The red card was rescinded after gracious testimony from the BSE player and coach.

This Saturday, with Esher attacking and in an compressed space, the ball hit our hooker on the head. Sir gave both a pen and a yellow card for a deliberate knock-on.  Foolishly....we complained and quite properly, Sir walked it forward 10m. Morley sticks it over and this is the decisive score of an very competitive encounter.
To be clear....the ref was positive in his decision making throughout and communicated very clearly. He had a pretty good game I thought. That said.....this error may yet decide who wins the title in our league this season.
It is true that we do not know whether Raiders would have conceded the last minute try if our energetic hooker had stayed on the park and we had had that extra defender, but what is inarguable, is that the 3pts from the incorrectly awarded pen decided the outcome.
The yellow card has been rescinded.  Most frustrating.

Take nothing away from Esher though.....very good performance on the road.
See you at your place.....likely some different personelle from both sides on show ?

Unfortunately I was not there. A first hand report, although obviously biased, suggested that both Worthing yellows were indeed a tad harsh, but that the game was evenly contested throughout; could of gone either way right to the death and was played in a reasonable spirit. What more can you ask for really ???

Evening mate......somewhat amusingly......i just signed in to delete my last post.....on reflection, considering that it was not helpful and perhaps....did not reflect the ethos of our game.
However,,,,,with my passingly high levels of technical incompetence, i can't work out how to do it. Tongue

it was a good game.....second half is on our Facebook page if you want to watch it.

Our players’ views were that after the first 10 minutes they felt in control at Worthing. They rued several missed chances but also appreciated the quality of their opponents. We will not be complacent on 23rd April.

In some ways I’m glad I couldn’t make it to Worthing. I have so many friends there, it is a wonderful Club but that result might have torn me apart! If only 2 could go up!

I went to the game and had a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon.  The Guinness was nicely poured, the burger was very tasty and the home crowd, on a lovely sunny day, were passionate but knowledgeable and gracious in defeat.

I really thought we had blown it and had started migrating to the exit (to get to the car ASAP to avoid the normal departing gridlock) but our boys - like they’ve done far too many times this season to be healthy for my blood pressure! - snatched the victory in the very corner I was standing.

Lovely ground, nice people and great facilities - what more could you want for a N2S match on a sunny spring afternoon.

Looking forward to the return leg.

Propdad......'what more could i want' ?  Well a win and a place at the top of the league table would have been rather pleasant Big smileWinkc
But I take all your gracious points and indeed, The Rugby Park is a great place to be on a Saturday afternoon.  It is pleasing that you guys enjoyed your trip.

Halliford.......harking back a bit to previous dialogue.....it is a great shame that there is not a playoff place to compete for.  Not so much an issue this year tbf, as there have been 6 sides looking to compete for the title for the greater part.  But in many other seasons that i have witnessed, one team has gone well clear at the top of the table, but serious interest has been maintained to the end, by a combination of the 3 down relegations and also, the playoff place.  It would appear that we have lost this latter option, perhaps in perpetuity, which I think it is a great shame.  It both extends interest in the competition and also, gives us the juicy nugget of a North v South, end of season clash, which always gets the tribal juices flowing WinkCry.

I remember when Ampthill played Bishop Stortford in the playoff - a real North South clash.

Was that the year after Ampthill played in Nat2S?

Stourbridge v Raiders........what an occasion that was.  I was there.  Will always remember how incredibly gracious the home crowd were as we celebrated our last minute win on the pitch Clap  What a day out.  So many travelled in hope despite a much weakened side.
Hmmmmm......Wye Valley Breweries......outstanding ale.

No, that year they played Darlington MP and I believe lost in extra time.
It was the following year when they had gone back to the North where they belong, and they beat Bishop Stortford to gain promotion.

Oh......and 999......Ampthill lost their playoff as Nat2S representatives to DMP after extra time.  30-28.
That was 13/14.  However.....not to be denied, they were back in it the following year, and as Camquin recounts, beat BS 19-10 as northern reps..
Curiously.....in these two games, they were a part of the only two defeats for the south since 2005 Ouch

These matchups generate terrific interest......i will miss them

If you think Wye Valley beers are outstanding it only confirms preconceptions about Southern beerWink
