I could only aspire to playing for the motherland. The nearest I ever got was buying a blue, black, and white playing shirt. Good to see Luke's still going strong.

Leicester Lions can confirm that a number of 1st team players and coaches won't be returning for the 24/25 season. The details of those departing can be found below: Jamel Hamilton Last season's vice captain has moved to Bristol for work and will be joining Clifton RFC for the upcoming season. Jamel leaves having made 142 appearances for the club. Dan Lewis Dan played all 26 games last season having signed at the start of the season from Moseley. He leaves the club having taken up an exciting new job opportunity with the Red Bull F1 team. Dan Martin Having reached 100 games for the club last season, the former club captain calls time on his rugby career to focus on family and work commitments. Drew Rudkin An absolute club legend, Drew has decided to hang up the boots after 312 appearances for the club spanning an impressive 17 years. Will Ward The second row has decided to end his playing career having played 83 games for the club since signing from South Leicester in 2019. Joey Patrick Having joined halfway through the 22/23 season the full-back was one of the stand-out players last season. Joey has decided to focus on work and family commitments and will turn out for his local side, Northampton Old Scouts, when he has opportunity to play. Devon Coulson The second row made 6 appearances for the Lions last season but leaves to join Hinckley RFC in search of more game time. Oscar McCarthy The scrum half made his debut for the Lions in 2023 as a 17 year old and went on to make 3 appearances before heading to play in Australia last season. Oscar will go to university when he returns. Dale Ager After 4 years as head forwards coach the former Lions hooker has stepped down from his role to spend more time with his young family. Lloyd Warner The backs coach has left to take up the head coach role at Broadstreet RFC. Jason Aldwinckle The former head coach has called time on his coaching career having been involved with the club ever since it's inauguration in 1999. We thank all of those departing for the time and commitment they have given the club and wish them all the best with what comes next. Having all been part of the most successful two years in the club's history, they have all certainly leave the 'shirt' in a better place than they found it.

Surely clubs are missing a trick in drip-feeding signings one player at a time? The could create more interest by announcing a signing over two days - the first name on day one and then the surname on day two?
