It would be nice to have some sort of clarification so that teams have some idea of what they are playing for !

It predates the Championship by at least one season.

The reduction from 16 teams in the old National 1 to 12 for the first season of the championship was only decided halfway through the season.

Which meant none of the sides in the old Nat 1, or Nat 2 as was, knew what they were playing for.
I do no recall the RFU discussed parachute payments publicly, either.
But, I believe at least one relegated side received one.

The Championship has moved to a league where no one is allowed to leave, you can spend enough for 3 squads or not even have a squad and it doesn’t matter. We all just pay to take pride in our league position knowing we will all be back here again!

Camquin,

None of the relegated teams received a parachute payment. However, the 3 demoted teams, Esher, Sedgley Park and Newbury were given a share of £90K to offset the massive loss in central funding. If you remember there was also a huge drop in funding for level 3 for the following season. I believe this is the season your club got shafted along with the afore mentioned DEMOTED clubs.

My mistake.

I thought the Welsh Super Rygbi Cymru teams were being lined up to join Prem II but it is a Cup competition under discussion.

However, after meeting with representatives from Prem 2 board to get feedback on why we have not been successful, we have our suspicions of who will be granted the one place available, until this announcement has been made, we will not comment any further"

I believe Richmond and DMP have been turned down as well.

Is it factually correct that DMP have been turned down? Bill Sweeney has often praised the set up at the Arena?

Welcome to the Hotel Championship
Such a ludicrous place (such a ludicrous place)
Such a lousy fate
Plenty of room (if your face fits) at the Hotel Championship
Any time of year (any time of year, except in Cambridge and Chinnor during November and February)
You can find it here (maybe, for a bit longer but who knows?).

*Happy New Year to you all, whichever club you support*

Don’t you love a professionally run league competition?

Maybe one day The Championship will be one.
The older I get, the more the RFU leave me confused.

I realise we've known this for a while, but nevertheless: it's shameful...

WOW

That is outrageous. Angry Shocking. So as Skalpy clarified earlier in the thread, what was the point of the re-organisation back in 2008/09.

What has been achieved?

The Bedford and FDR Chairman Geoff Irving (At the time), his stance and long term view was bang on the money back at the height of the negotiations. It was always going to be, as he insisted, a once in a generational opportunity for the game to get it right for the pyramid structure (note the qualification the game, not clubs) and so he made clear what the red lines for the FDR/Club negotiations were and that was an all comprehensive , conclusive and binding promotion and relegation protocol which needed approving long term before any agreement on Championship funding structure.

His mantra was, it’s the Clubs money so it should be shared/negotiated and  done on behalf of  the whole of Club rugby’s interest.

Well done the ‘Gang of Four’ Nearly 20 years on this still rolls on to the detriment of the game.

Sad, very sad.

All the best

It is a big gap even for those playing in the cup!  Although I imagine there will be plenty of friendlies that crop up once we know who is through to the next round.  For Blues we play 3 home games in a row to Fri 24 Jan, next league home game is Sat 29 Mar.

We do have Bristol on 7th Feb in the cup though.

ST

32 weekends and a Fixture Secretary (up to 6 teams in the 70s) and a flourishing fixture exchange PLUS the annual away coach trip (usually London with a collection on the Bayswater Road at 11pm, peeing out of the coach door in transit or onto the drive shaft)

......and then there was the best selling book "I went on Tour" with 32 blank pages

Happy New Year all HugClown
