No surprise there.

Yes, I saw that he hadn't played for Cov for a while but assumed that he was injured. He was a Warriors stalwart for a number of years prior to their collapse.
He has a nasty bicep injury, which is why he hasn't played. However, if rumours are correct, he won't be at the BPA next term.
I hope the rumours are wrong, but I'm sure there will be contingency plans.

But just in time to step into a player/coach, assistant coaching role at Warriors after hanging up his boots.

That explains why I hadn't seen him in the matchday squads for a while. He's had a positive influence at Cov and would be a loss I'm sure.

It will be interesting to see how London Welsh react. I see in the press announcement the Warriors claim they have done the right thing by accepting paying off the "Rugby Creditors" in order to return to Level 2 immediately rather that avoid paying off "All" depts and starting from the bottom.
A. What is the definition of "Rugby Depts?"
B. Who are they not paying, "Covid Loans" the local Butcher and other small companies who have been left in financial hard ship.
C. How many players will they now approach from other Championship  clubs to build up their squad.
D. Will the RFU give them funds to set up an Academy? which no other club has.

This is the official announcement made earlier this afternoon... no surprises to what's been reported/leaked over recent weeks...

Further details on competition format, new branding and commercial strategy will be announced as we move towards the new season.

I assume the new branding, and potentially sponsorship, will need to be on every clubs' shirts.

Remind me, what is the lead time on ordering new kit?

I know I may be in the minority with this view but I have no problem with Worcester coming back as a club. I have more of a problem with them just being parachuted back into the second tier. They should have started from at least the lowest level of the national leagues. It’s an insult to clubs in the pyramid that have cut their cloth, at the expense of higher league status.

Point of correction! Wuss have to clear all rugby creditors by the end of April. They have already paid £9m to DCMS re COVID loan and have to pay the balance of £6m plus HMRC by the end of 2025.

That is a lot more than many companies pay under English Company Law which allows Directors to close down loss-making businesses, buy the assets at a knock-down price and start trading again straight away.

What were the minimum standards that all 12 current Championship sides had to meet here and now? The facilities at Doncaster differ greatly from those at Ampthill, for example.

I'd be interested to know if the new Championship will bring back promotion (unlikely to Premiership for most clubs) but equally important, relegation to Nat 1. Otherwise we then have the top two levels of rugby in England ringfenced as no one has been relegated from the Championship since Richmond were 2 years ago.

And of course, should the franchise fail to pay up in time, well they surely will be ejected from the 2nd tier for a breach of contract? ;)

I very much doubt John Inverdale (Nat Lgs grand fromage) would have provided supportive wording for today's announcement if there'd been any indication that the Champ was going to become ring-fenced.

I think we can infer that the 'minimum standard' bar is currently set quite low. I sense there is an ambition to raise this bar in future, but details are 'tbc'...
