Greetings all Rugby Union fans.
Welcome to today’s latest scores thread.
Let’s have a look at today’s games. As usual there are a couple of early kick offs (one at 2pm and one at 2.30pm) with five games kicking off at 3pm.
Matches as follows:
2pm ——- Rotherham Titans v Bishops Stortford
2.30pm ————- Sedgley Park v Plymouth Albion
3pm ——- Blackheath v Esher Darlington Mowden Park v Sale FC Rams v Birmingham Moseley Richmond v Leicester Lions Rosslyn Park v Dings Crusaders
Early focus for me will be the game at Clifton Lane which is an interesting game between Roth & Bishops Stortford. I watched a recording of Stortford’s impressive win at Sedgley Park a couple of weeks ago, and last week they had a very tight four point loss to leaders Rams with defences well & truly on top. Roth are aiming to consolidate their impressive start, but know BS are very capable opponents.were in fact the last team to play Roth at Clifton Lane in Nat 1 before Covid shut the game down in 2020, leading to our relegation on a preset formula. Sedgley Park will be aiming to get their season back on track, after losing their last two home games to Dings, and as mentioned above, to Bishops Stortford, and then fell to defeat late on at Moseley by just two points. Considering Sedge had a considerable lead at half time and Ollie Allsop’s red card for Moseley, they will doubtless have been thinking the game was one they should have won. They will be hoping for better fortune against a resurgent Plymouth Albion, who appear to have put their slow start well behind them. I am sure Sedge Tiger will be posting score updates on here for that game.
Regarding the 3pm starts, on paper two juicy ones stand out. They are the game between leaders Rams and fourth placed Moseley, who will be without Ollie Allsop for the first of a three game suspension for his red card last week. Moseley were beaten soundly by Plymouth in their last away game, but will be happy that they managed to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat against Sedgley Park last week and losing Allsop as mentioned above The other game I would briefly like to comment on is the Rosslyn Park v Dings Crusaders game. Although Rosslyn lost their first three games they were all pretty close. Roth got a late penalty to deny them a losing bonus, then they lost at home by just two points to Richmond, and, as at Roth, they were denied a losing bonus, when a late Tom Ffitch penalty gave Blackheath a 32-24 win. As for Dings, they have featured in some high scoring games already and had an impressive win at Sedgley Park, but then lost out in an 80 point thriller at home to Rams, just missing out on a second bonus point, having already scored five tries. They were ultimately well beaten at Roth, before coming back to very nearly secure a famous win at home to Richmond, ending up with a draw thanks to two late Richmond tries to secure them a 31-31 draw but, as against Rams, they secured five tries, which meant both teams left with three points each. So clearly they are a dangerous team.
Please feel free to contribute updates as usual but I will consolidate the latest scores throughout the afternoon.
As usual, good luck to all teams in this great league.

A lot to contemplate for Roth. Quite a few injuries too. Great performance from BS but lost count have how many penalties they had against them and yellow cards too.
Great win for BS. Congratulations to them. Roths 19 game winning streak at home is over.

Sedge 41 (5) Albion 26 (1) FT
Sedge returning back to some really good aggressive running rugby in the second half. However the victory was created from a huge defence first 40 especially in the last 10 minutes of the first 40 when Albion battered Sedge relentlessly but made no ground.
Second half was all Sedge as they overwhelmed our visitors with some exceptional aggressive play.
Albion are a class act and they ensured a BP was gained with a late rally.
I hope all from Albion enjoyed their day here at Park Lane. Have a great night and safe journey home.
All the best

Really disappointed in the attitude of Birmingham today, showed no interest in wanting to scrummage. were lucky to get 7 points. Their number 8 was more interested in talking to the ref than actually playing

Mmmmmmmmm .... we'll agree to disagree on that one, the scrum is not our weak area, so that would indicate that the majority of referees in the league aren't seeing what you're seeing ... however, a compelling game of rugby and as intense as any I've seen at this level for quite a while ... we wish you all the best for the rest of the season and no doubt the return will be as full on, so we might need 2 x referees on the pitch, the RFU appointed one and Ollie Stedman to help him ....

Tough game for the Titans this Saturday.
A few silly errors lead to 3 quick fire tries. Stortford made us pay and showed that there is no room for error in this league.
I have to say BS had an incredible defence, one of the best I have seen at Clifton Lane for some time. Storfords pack were brilliant too. For the first time this season we had been on the back foot in the pack and that really shook us in the first half.
Going in at half time 35-8 down, it was always going to be mammoth task to get back into the game however we managed to bring the game back to 6 tries to 5.
Taught us some big lessons.
Another tough game away to Mose next week. Hard graft in National 1.
I have to say if someone had said at the start of the season we would be in 3rd, won five and lost 2 I would have taken that all day long.
All the best and onto next week!

I'm not sure what the Pen / Free Kick count was at scrum time, but suspect it was +15 in favour of Rams. Of course with the change in the laws meaning free kicks can't be a reset scrum you do wonder if the dominance for Rams had anything to do with B&M constantly infringing. I timed one scrum at four minutes before Sir lost patience and just awarded Rams a pen.

Ah, the good old days, where the man in the middle was an irrelevance and scrums and lineouts were a jungle (and hookers hooked) and (wingers threw in at lineouts) ….. different game now and not always for the best ….
