Tyrells have announced they are not renewing their sponsorship for next season.

Sign of things to come?

Not surprising really, end of the contract, tough economic times they probably jumped at the chance to get out.

Back to reality?

How are other " minority" sports such as hockey getting on?

Sponsors are generally willing to invest in clubs and individual players for a range of reasons some worthy some arguably not. Sponsors for national or regional competitions are in it because they believe it will help sustain/expand/improve their business .

Nowadays firms are looking at survival.

Just out of interest - does anyone know what typical attendances are for the women's game? I've read of record crowds at the Stoop, but we played a game against Wasps FC a couple of years ago, and there were more people watching our level nine fixture on the back pitch than were watching Wasps v Bristol Ladies on the main pitch.

They have some long term sponsors, Investec, Jaffa, etc.

I understand Investec are not renewing their sponsorship of Hockey which was due to end in the next couple of months.

Mark, think I covered this elsewhere I believe the average last season was around the 400 mark, Quins being the exception.

400?? So less than many attendances at Men's Level 5 or 6 - where exactly is the attraction for a "meaningful" main sponsor??

Coverage in the Sports pages of National Newspapers

The odd televised match

Both would be more than level 5 or 6 gets, but I take your point - not high profile.
