Pool A
Pury 2-3 Archers - Too close to call more likely 5-2 either way
Trailfinders 2-5 Jersey Should be a banker home win for the strongest squad in the league but I reserve my prediction until I see the teams selected - Hoping to see some old mates from Ealing and even Mond & McQuin supporters along to see this one - surely the tie of the round Prediction added after teams announced.

Pool B
Knights 5-0 Blues The real current form team at home so should be a Donny win by 15 points
Cov 5-1 McQuins Home advantage should be enough, but Exiles are finding form

Pool C
Mond 5-1 Caldy Two well matched sides but at the RAG Mond to take it
Pirates 4-1 Amps Home advantage should be enough for Pirates

Pool A
Hartpury 1-5 Nottingham  On a true vein of form
Ealing 2-5 Jersey Clash of the Titans

Pool B
Knights 5-0 Bedford Should do enough to close out the pool stages
Coventry 4-1 London Scottish I think this will either be a try fest or a close wrestle (going with close at a guess)

Pool C
Richmond 4-1 Caldy Hoping Caldy does the business but calling home advantage
Pirates 4-1 Ampthill Pirates hard to determine what is happening there so calling a close one but could be home banker 5-0

Pool A
Hartpury 1-5 Nottingham … Nottingham to have a good win here, but I think that Hartpury will run in 4 tries again.
ET 4 Jersey 1 … The first of 4 titanic matches between these 2 this season. With a rest week coming up I expect both sides to leave it all out there. I’m going with home advantage, but discipline will decide this. My heart says big away win, but it’s just too close to call.

Pool B
Doncaster 5-0 Bedford … On current form you have to go with Donny at home and I expect them to dominate up front.
Coventry 5-1 LS … LS are improving, but I think that Cov will have too much for them. A TBP is on the cards though

Pool C
Richmond 5-1 Caldy … One for the rugby romantics. I can see a tight, high scoring, entertaining game. Mond to secure it in the final quarter
CP 5-0 Ampthill… Pirates have found some firm and I think that they will continue with their perfect start to the competition.

Perhaps not on a match if you are travelling on public transport. Bus to Ealing Broadway......District Line, change at  Turnham Green and then you have the option at Richmond of train or rugby bus to HQ.

The other thing to note are road works on the M4 between junction 1 & 3, which even if you are not planning to use, are causing delays in the area.

Sorry if this sounds pessimistic, but good luck with your travel arrangements Smile

Easy mate. One of the players is going straight from the ground after the game with his better half who has a sibling playing in the match. A cab leaving at 4pm will get you there in 30/40 mins. Ealing have always been helpful in booking these for me in the past.

Problem solved Smile But I think I must be a bit stupid because even with the team sheets, I still can't work out who the 'sibling' is

Team selection made and two cracking sides. Trailfinders have an embarrassment of riches at half back and back row and are probably the most likely team whose starting front five could compete with Jersey at the moment. At home in front of their partisan fans Ealing will be strongly fancied but with my one-eyed insular view I think Jersey have a great front row bench who would start in almost any other championship team and if they keep it tight in the first half should finish strongly. I think both teams are well capable of scoring 4 tries tomorrow and I hope both team's discipline allow the referee to keep everyone on the pitch for the full 80 minutes. I predict a 5-8 point margin between the teams at the end and although it could go either way I will hope for a Jersey win and will edit my earlier post accordingly. Howay Jersey.

One of our players is dating Tom (and Ben) Curry's sister...

Good luck to them and anyone else looking to do the Vallis Way - Twickenham transfer. There should be about 1hr 45min between games, so you'd hope it'd be feasible

I live 10 minutes walk from Vallis Way and have hoofed it to Twickenham in less than 2 hours, so should be plenty doable.

Grrrr a heads up for anyone (like me) going from Heathrow T5 to Vallis Way. There is disruption on the Elizabeth Line and the best alternative route looks like Picadilly Line with a change at Acton to Ealing Common & then bus to scotch Common - or walk? Nil desporandum.

If you get this in time:
Piccadilly Line to Northfields, then E2 bus direct to Scotch Common

Very even at the moment. Jersey causing all sorts of problems in the set pieces and defending brilliantly in their own 22. Ealing nearly firing. Should be a great second half.

Ealing 10 (1T) - Jersey 13 (1T) -  HT Jersey winning due to line out dominance. Ealing have lost at least 5 of 7 line outs. Craig Hampson has been terrible at 9; sloooow, aimless box kicking and butchered a try. Luke Daniels also butchered a try by trying to run in field - a dive for the corner would have seen him in easily. On the plus side for Ealing, they have stopped the Jersey rolling maulnin its tracks 3 times from 5 meters.

Excellent game management from Ealing (not often I’ll say that!). Line out misfired all match, dominated in the scrum, but great defence - Jersey maul gained precisely zero metres and zero points. Sets up a cracking Christmas Eve clash.

Fully agree mate one of the best rugby contests I've seen since Jersey beat Pirates by a single point in Penzance. It could probably have gone either way but Ealing deserved the win for their magnificent defence particularly in the maul and midfield and their forwards were battered but never broken by a seriously good Jersey pack. Jersey shouldn't beat themselves up for losing that one they pushed an exceptional side all the way and have at least three more chances this season. I hope its four more in that both sides could still qualify for the later stages of the cup which is far from worthless in my book. Great to see some old friends from Vallis Way - banter and hospitality as good as ever. For goodness sake please stream the Christmas Eve game - Mrs C will never let me travel for that one.

And we hadn’t scored 5 tries to your 2, and we hadn’t missed 3 kicks at goal.

But yes, it was a good game, and perhaps you did deserve a bonus point. We played a tactical game - we knew that we could best you up front, and we did. The backs were much more evenly matched and you have some quality back there. It will be interesting on the return fixture back at yours. The cup has been more about us giving opportunities to players on the fringe, academy hopefuls and some players returning from long term injuries a go. Back to league fixtures in 2 weeks for us

So, halfway point of the group stage.

Donny, Pirates & Ealing 3/3. Everyone else has one win, except Jersey (2) & Nottingham (0).

What chance of any of the pool leaders being displaced?
Pirates (15pts) are 9pts clear of nearest rivals + have two home games in rds 4/5 - would be a surprise if they didn't win those and qualify with a game to spare.
Donny (also on 15, with a lead of 9) have a run-in that looks harder, with both Cov and Blues away, but could afford to lose one of those.
Ealing (14, 4 clear of Reds) travel to Jersey in the next round for what looks the decisive game.

Not sure how easy it was, but saw Reds missed a 75th min penalty yesterday, which would probably have brought a BP. Wonder if that could be crucial? I suppose there was the small consolation of being first side in 10 games this season to stop ET scoring 4 tries.

But for now - after a week off - we return to the league. Round 8 has some tasty match-ups to, with Cov/Donny, Pirates/Ealing and Exiles/Caldy all standing out...
