With the announcement that the proposed Ottawa RL team is now to be based in Penryn - with management saying they will endeavour to be a mainly Cornish team, I wonder if this will affect the Cornish RU sides such as Redruth?

Will they lose players to RL or will players play all-year round initially to give RL a go?

The League One clubs have seen their central funding cut from £62,000 to just £16,000, they have also had their travel grants cut by the RFL, so the consensus amongst the League One clubs is that they won’t be travelling to play Cornwall unless either the RFL or Cornwall pay.

It's also now being reported (not confirmed) that the travel allowance is being scrapped.

Another pet project the Northerners will treat as an amusing sideshow but use any excuse they can to kill it if it gets too big for its boots. Just like Toronto.

Rugby League has really struggled to gain a sustainable foothold in London with its huge population base for players and supporters and potential financial support. Where on earth are either of those elements in Cornwall -designated in 2017 as the second poorest area in Northern Europe. Dreaming of Stadium Cornwall is one thing-this appears like madness.

They've been squarely crapped on by the RFL after Al Robinson and others spent twenty odd years building a club from nothing, putting in place pathways that have yielded some class players.
It stinks rather like the way the RFU's negligence stinks.
Edited for spelling error.

Now to be known as Midlands Hurricanes.

The semi-pro arm will be, yes. Still underpinned by Coventry Bears in 'amateur' competition.
What many don't realise is that when the club was first mooted (1998) it was proposed that it should be called Warwickshire Bears, hence the Bears bit, as the coat of arms of the county is the Bear and Ragged Staff.
It happens that a good percentage of those that follow the club come from various parts of the midlands, and one of the junior sides is actually based in Birmingham, so the name change makes at least a modicum of sense.
I also get the impression that the owner of the new sponsorship company  Big Red Construction (who has also become joint owner with Boomer Robinson) has had a significant say in the ongoing identity of the club. His money, naturally enough, talks.

(Edit: I'll just clarify that in the early days of the Bears, I was the web-monkey, statistician, photographer, and PR geezer for the club).
