Predictions: Bedford 1 - 5 Ealing - Bedford are better than their 8th placed league position would suggest but I doubt that they are good enough to beat Ealing. Maybe Blues could get 4 tries though. Jersey 5 - 0 Coventry - Jersey were looking much improved before the bye week and I think that they will carry that form on at home with a crowd. Coventry have been a bit up and down this year. Richmond 1 - 4 Nottingham - Nottingham have been close in a couple of games. This is by far their best chance of getting a win on the board this season and I think they’ll do it, but only just. Cornish Pirates 5 - 0 Hartpury - Pirates have lost their last two games at home which will have annoyed them. I expect a strong rebound against a Hartpury side who have been porous defensively this season. Saracens 5 - 0 Ampthill - Played on a Monday Night to give the underdogs the boost of a home crowd!!!. On a serious note Amps did get a try bonus point away to Falcons last season, they couldn’t do it again could they?. Not for me.

Bedford 0 - 5 Ealing - I've seen Ben Ward do very bizarre things when going to Goldington Road (for example subbing most of the team too early). I think he's learned his lesson though, and that Ealing get another strong win. Jersey 5 - 0 Coventry - Jersey looking to grow into the season, and they won't want to let the home supporters down. Richmond 4 - 1 Nottingham - The mighty Mond looked much better to me than Nottingham did when they played Ealing, regardless of the scoreline. I think they'll bundle over for a few tries and pip Nottingham in a battle of semi-pro teams. Cornish Pirates 5 - 0 Hartpury - Pros vs. amateurs, regardless of the odd surprise (Ampthill vs. Pirates), most of the traffic is one way. Saracens 1 - 4 Ampthill - You know what I said in the previous prediction? Ignore that. The Rugby gods are going to deliver an end of lockdown miracle.

Bedford 0-5 Ealing - Bedford are indeed better than their league position suggests and can cause Ealing problems with their attack but given Ealing are averaging over 50 points against teams that aren’t saracens I only see this going one way Jersey 5-0 Coventry - Jerseys form improved and will get the win in front of home crowd Richmond 4-1 Nottingham - Nottingham’s best chance of a win this season but I’m still going with them to finish 0-10. Closest game of weekend though. Pirates 5-0 Hartpury - Pirates too strong, home banker Saracens 5-0 Ampthill - Obviously

Bedford 0-5 Ealing. But probably not by 50 points. Pirates 5-1 Hartpury. Pirates could score 50 points, but Hartpury might get 30 themselves. Jersey 5-0 Coventry. Jersey are on the up and have a passionate crowd to act as the 16th man. Richmond 1-5 Nottingham. Nottingham seem to be improving every game, but I have no knowledge of Richmond so this is a total guess. So who does that leave? Saracen 5-0 Ampthill. This is a small club experiencing their biggest competitive game in their history, against a side containing Lions and internationals. It is Manchester United versus Ampthill Town Football Club. When Mark Lavery was interviewed on BBC TV at the start of the season he said it will probably be 100-0 but who cares. I think Saracens will win easily but I think the As will play out of their skins..........

JO makes a fair point. Not sure about Cov, but only 5 of the Reds' 22-man squad (taken from https://www.jerseyreds.je/match_report/jersey-reds-23-coventry-36/" rel="nofollow - match report ) are still here 2 years after that match in April 2019, as indicated in bold; 3 of the 5 probably won't feature this w/e due to injury/suspension...
JERSEY REDS: Herron; Stapley (Howley 78), Ma'afu, Eastwell, Van Dam; Penberthy, Homer; Godfrey (c) (Morley 78), Selway (Macfarlane 72), Atalifo (Alexis 62), Bartle (Hallam-Eames 72), Beckett, Upfield (Joyce 72), Hatherell, Venter (Newey 74). COVENTRY: Halaifonua; Bulumakau (Kessell 78), Stevens (c), Owen, Trimble (Knox 59); Maisey, White; Gibbons (Ellis 51), Dawidiuk (Tolmie 23), Brighouse (Boulton h-t), Russell (Oram 51), Woolford (Voss h-t), Nutley, Ram, Adams

From the Cov side, the following players are still on the books...
Bulumakau Owen, Knox White, Boulton, Woolford, Nutley,
Of those, any except Bulumalau might (in fact probably will) appear. - so 6 players. The rest are a mixture of younger development players. And a cherry picked scattering of DRs.

Bedford 0 - 5 Ealing Ealing are just too strong, although playing at home gives Bedford the chance of some tries.
Cornish Pirates 5 - 0 Hartpury Home banker but who knows?
Jersey 5 - 2 Coventry The Jersey team that played Richmond I wouldn't back but they seem to have improved.
Richmond 4 - 1 Nottingham Depends on who's picked for Mond. The rotation policy means that the best players sometimes aren't picked. If Mond gel they'll score four tries.
Saracens 5 - 0 Ampthill Nuff said.

Ealing team to face Bedford at 1945 on Friday at Goldington Road: There's a lot to like here with the return of several injured players such as Bobby De Wee and Pat Howard. However I'm really puzzled by the Max Northcote-Green addition, as we just had Malon Al-Jiboori signed for the last game and he played well. Seems bizarre, like only using Bill Johnston for one match. Also curious about Craig Willis not being in the squad, but perhaps this is just rotation to let Shingler get game time after his injury early in the season. 1. James Gibbons 2. Shaun Malton 3. Lewis Thiede 4. Bobby De Wee 5. James Cannon 6. Max Northcote-Green 7.Simon Uzokwe 8. Rayn Smid 9. Craig Hampson 10. Steven Shingler 11 Angus Kernohan 12. Pat Howard 13. Max Bodilly 14. I see Alex Goode has returned to the Saracens camp in time for the last three Championship games. They are obviously well concerned about the threat from the mighty Ampthill this coming Monday. Perhaps they should try and find a few additional Lions to sign over the weekend. They might even want to poach some of the Ampthill players! Always best to play safe.

The Premiership season (excepting playoffs) should be done by the Championship playoff final. I wonder if the non-Saracens team will be able to 'call back' any 'loan' players. I'm hoping Ealing or Doncaster reveal that they've dual registered Louis Rees Zammit or Dan Biggar. (I jest of course).

the Prem PO semi-finals are on 18/19 June. Bristol will be involved, so would want to keep Malins & Earl, not sure which other players from clubs outside top 4 might be eligible to return?

Ealing 7 (1T) - Bedford 0 - 7' - Bodilly pushed over the line after a bit of back and forth play and a Kernohan break down the side.

Ealing 14 (2T) - Bedford 0 - 12' - Bedford did a manful job of stopping an Ealing rolling maul, but Hampson was able to spin it out wide to Pat Howard, who beat one man to get over the line.

Ealing 21 (3T) - Bedford 5 (1T) - 29' - Pat Tapley dives into the corner for a try after Bedford get a 5 meter line out from a silly restart penalty on Ealing (man taken in the air).

Ealing 21 (3T) - Bedford 12 (2T) - 40' - Pat Tapley scores under the posts after 3 or 4 beautiful offloads. Ealing have looked dire in the last 15 minutes, messing up 4 line outs, and getting half a dozen stupid penalties. Bedford have a huge amount of momentum.

Ealing 21 (3T) - Bedford 12 (2T) - HT - Ealing came out on fire for the first 25 minutes, then fell apart. Blues took full advantage, with their second try almost sure to be the try of the week, and a thing of beauty.

Ealing 21 (3T) - Bedford 17 (3T) - 41' - Bedford were obviously watching Saracens and attacked Ealing at the ruck to force a penalty off the kick off. They then scored off of the line out. Nightmare restart.

The 2nd game of the season that’s gonna be ruined by the absolutely ridiculous yellow card prop rules. One prop is injured. Another binned for lottery scrum decision. We’re forced to lose another player. It’s such a ridiculous rule that was brought in to stop teams deliberately going to uncontested but seems incredibly unfair when caused by genuine injury. I don’t understand how we could’ve avoided it? There was nothing we could’ve done to avoid the sin bin, he was sin binned for not being as good at scrummaging as his opposition. If somebody could enlighten me to what actions Bedford could’ve taken to avoid losing an extra player I’d love to hear it!

Ealing just keep making mistake after mistake. Kicking away the ball with a 5 man overlap, or dropping the ball with open field in front of them. Bedford survive the 13 man sin binning with only 7 points given up. Manful.

Now Ealing early drive in the scrum and get awarded a penalty for it. May as well get the prop red carded as Ealing were exceptionally poor at making a 2 man overlap in the backs.

Ealing 35 (BP) - Bedford 17 (3T) - Jordan Burns can't stop scoring. Squirted through a six inch gap from about 30 meters. If he was a slightly better box kicker, he'd never leave the field. Very good conversion from Shingler.

He was chased down by the replacement fly half/centre I thought he was in too.
Score isn’t really reflecting the game. Ealing changed the game by making it a scrum fest.

Ealing 40 (BP) - Bedford 17 (3T) - FT - Ealing won, and it feels a shame that Bedford didn't earn the losing bonus point as they played with tons of heart.

Result as expected but Ealing not nearly so good on real grass.

Well I watched that one as a neutral. Didn’t think much of the referee, thought she was poor. I also thought Ealing’s conduct on the pitch was awful, there was a lot of goading towards the Bedford players that the referee was very weak on. I wasn’t impressed by them, they turned it into a scrummaging contest and the ref let them do it. They’re not nearly as close to Sarries as they think they are.

It was a good game to watch, Ealing controlled the 2nd half and Blues best period was when they were down to 13 when it was uncontested scrums. Either side we didn’t see too much of the ball.

I didn’t want to say anything about the referee. Ealing were also very slow around the breakdown when Blues had the ball. Didn’t think the scrum was handled well and I felt the 50:50’s didn’t really go the Blues way.
Look out for try of the week with the 4 offloads from about the half way line.

Yes Ealing players have been big on the goading in all the games of theirs I’ve seen with Bobby DeWee the worst culprit. Ben Ward should be getting them to tone that down ASAP there’s no need for it, especially when you’re normally winning your games by so many

How have Blues not got anything from the Donny and Ealing games?. Deserved something in both.

The story of our season, but I do think if we retain the squad next year could be a good year for us.

I think on one occasion they did create a 4 to 5 man overlap but then kicked the ball instead of throw a pass. If they had Willis I think he would have spotted the opportunity.
The Burns try which we know so well was the killer, bouncing off a tackle and then in a blink of an eye appearing to have time travelled with his electric acceleration. The ironic thing is he left Blues as he didn't like the competition with Dickson and now seems to be a last 20 min player for tired defences.
What Ealing did do exceptionally well was control the 2nd half.

Probably the least convincing 40-17 match I've seen. Ealing looked much better to me when Casson, Davis, Murphy, Thompson, and Burns came on.
Hampson probably had his worst game of the season in my mind, as he was glacially slow at the breakdown, which stopped Ealing from generating front foot ball, and led to a couple of turnovers/penalties. I've noticed that tendency with him before when he pairs with Shingler, I think that Willis goads him into playing faster.
I've got a ticket to a Q&A session with Ben Ward and Rayn Smid on Wednesday, and I think that I'm going to ask about the chippiness. Maybe they are trying to be like Saracens, but I don't care for it.

I thought the main turning point was when Worley tried to run the ball from defence and was caught. From then on Ealing were in scrum time heaven and then Blues down to 13. Sometimes we need to override our desire to run and just make a decent touch kick. I feel very positive for next season with this young (albeit a bit naive) team.

There is a pattern, in a lot of Ealing's games, where the opposition are in the game at half time but then get overpowered. They are doing what they need to do to win games with the BP. We'll see how much they've got in reserve when they face Sarries.

Just for an alternative view then ..... that's not what happened last night. Blues were 0-21 down after 25 to 30 minutes. So the rest of the game was 17-19.
I felt Blues gave Ealing too much respect and seemed too submissive at the start of the game. Once they realised they could hold their own and compete they did.

Wonder if that 3rd try at the death could be crucial. 10pts with the wind perhaps not enough of a lead, but 17 is big... Cov much more clinical thus far & their defence has been solid

Thats the third time today Cov had appeared to have had the ball down over the ground and disallowed | Some strange decisions there. Try given then reversed to held up and a pen. Kick to the corner with the subsequent lineout not straight. Scrum to Jersey who drove Cov off of the ball, but a pen given for some reason. Quick tap, which was clearly dropped but sir didn’t see it as it was right in front of him. Cov work the ball well and go over out wide. Good con...... 0-17 at HT but Jersey with the wind 2nd half and to be honest, I thought that Jersey have been the better team...... then again, I am biased😉

Poor George Sellwood. He referred Cov in their last match too, and had a Cov try overruled by the AR then too. (Probably correctly, but for a very minor technical point).

I agree that it was our least convincing win. We still managed to stop a Bedford four try bonus point and even playing so under par were able to score 40 points.
I think it was evident why Craig Willis gets the number 10 spot over Shingler . I have never see so many post by the losing team slating the winning team ! and most of the critism perfectly correct. Imagine if Ealing had fired on all cylinders I dread to think what the winning margin may have been. I agree about the whooping and jeering , there is no place for it in Rugby. Saracens were the instigators and the trade mark of the Wolfpack. I have seen it appear in youth rugby and have requested coaches at Ealing to stamp it out. I to am will be at the Q&A with Rayn Smid and Ben Ward......any questions request ?.
