I understand the quarter finalists this season are:
* Top side in each pool progress to knockout stage, plus three best runners-up
* 8 quarter-finalists ranked with teams ranked 1-4 having home advantage
Does anyone have a link to the detailed regulations which determine how the 8 teams are ranked and how they are drawn against each other? Lots of obvious questions- does 1st rank play 8th for example? Is ranking purely on pool points which could lead to a second placed team getting a home draw? Are any of the final stages over two legs or on a neutral ground?

CC. I understand the regulations and current positions are as follows: -

The eight qualifiers will be seeded according to performance in the pool stage, and competed in the quarter-finals, which will be held on the weekend of 8/9/10 April 2016. The four top seeds will host the quarter-finals against the lower seeds, in a 1 v 8, 2 v 7, 3 v 6 and 4 v 5 format.

Teams are ranked by:

1 – competition points
2 – where competition points are equal, greatest number of wins
3 – where the number of wins are equal, aggregate points difference
4 – where the aggregate points difference are equal, greatest number of points scored

Clarification on most points below, distributed to clubs this week. Looks complicated but is fairly similar to the league in using wins and then points diff as the first two tie-breakers for any sides that are level. Am fairly sure the top 4 ranked sides get home advantage. All k-o matches are 1 leg. Imagine further details on KO stages, draws etc, may follow next week - let's hope they are still relevant for our team by then!

5.2.1       Reg 5.2.1 At the end of the Pool Stage the highest ranking Club in each pool shall be the pool winner and the pool winners together with 3 best runners up across the 5 pools will all proceed to the quarter-finals.  The rankings shall be determined in accordance with the following criteria and in the following order:

(a)        Competition Points; or

(b)       where the Competiton Points are equal between two or more Clubs, the Club(s) that has achieved the greater number of wins; or

(c)        where these are equal, the aggregate points difference from all Matches in the Pool Stage for each of the Clubs that have an equal number of Competition wins and Competition Points;

(d)       or where these are equal, the Club that has scored the greatest number of points in the Pool Stage; or

(e)       where these are equal, the Club that has the better result(s) from the Match(es) between the Clubs; or

(f)         where these are equal, the greater number of tries scored in the Match(es) between the Clubs shall determine the rankings; or

(g)        where the tries scored are equal, the aggregate points difference in the Matches between the Clubs in the Pool Stage shall determine the rankings; or

(h)       where the aggregate points difference is equal the fewest number of players shown a red card in the Pool Stage shall determine the rankings; or

(i)         where the number of red cards are equal, the fewest number of players shown a yellow card shall determine the rankings; or

(j)         where the number of red cards are equal, by the toss of a coin.

5.2.2       The 5 Pool winners shall be ranked 1-5 in each case based on their playing record in the Pool Stages using 5.2.1 and shall proceed to the quarter-final.  The 3 best runners up shall be ranked 6-8 in each case based on their playing record in the Pool Stages using 5.2.1 and shall proceed to the quarter-final.

Just a query but doesn't wins draws losses count for anything? i.e. Doncaster has not lost a match yet, is that not better than three wins an a losing bonus? Never quite understood the rationale behind the decisions.....

Any light on the matter would be appreciated.

Accordingly to Islander's post, the first deciding factor after competition points is games won. Therefore a team with four 4 point wins giving 16 competition points would be ranked ahead of a 16 point team with three 5 point wins and a losing bonus point (but not with an additional try bonus point from the lost match as this would give them 17 competition points).

New regulations for this season. 8 Subs instead of 7 is much better.
