Well next weekend we’re into 2022. These are the games, hopefully we can get most of them played. Some very tasty looking games on this card.

Saturday 1st January 2022:
Ampthill v London Scottish - 2pm
Doncaster v Bedford - 2.30pm
Hartpury v Nottingham - 2.30pm
Ealing v Cornish Pirates - 3pm
Richmond v Coventry - 3pm

Predictions:
Ampthill 5 v 0 London Scottish - Amps usually do well in games like this at home. Can’t see that changing.
Doncaster 5 v 2 Bedford - What a game this could be. Our home record will be massively tested by an excellent Bedford side. I think the Knights will just edge it but it’s a genuine 50-50 game for me. I expect a try-fest.
Hartpury 5 v 0 Nottingham - If this gets played I can’t see anything but a convincing home win, Hartpury have been good at home this season.
Ealing 5 v 1 Cornish Pirates - This is the game of the season so far. My heart says Pirates but my head says on the fast pitch at Vallis Way Ealing might just have too much firepower. Surely this game has to be streamed?!.
Richmond 4 v 1 Coventry - At home I think Mond will do the business against an inconsistent Coventry side.

Ampthill 4-0 London Scottish. Ampthill should get the win but LS are improving so I am not expecting a try fest.
Doncaster 5-0 Bedford. The weather will play its part here. If it is wet then Doncaster will grind out a bonus point win .
Hartpury 5-0 Nottingham. A comfortable home win whatever the weather.
Ealing 5-0 Cornish Pirates. I expect Ealing to score at least four tries at home with the Pirates possibly getting one or two.
Richmond 4-1 Coventry. The home side to edge a victory against an under strength Coventry.

Maybe, just maybe, they will be slightly stronger by then, IF the eight 'isolators' are through with their protocols, and no more succumb to the dreaded ping.
The DoR also hints that a few of the walking wounded will be sorted 'during the next month' so maybe (agin) one or two of those will figure, so perhaps not quite so under strength.
We'll see.

Let’s hope AMAP of these games can take place. Well done to the 3 clubs able to host games yesterday & commiserations to those who couldn’t - it’s a tricky time and while good protocols are important, you also need some good fortune.

Believe this is current state-of-play regarding Covid postponements:

2 games: Hartpury, Richmond, Nottingham & Pirates

1 game: Jersey & Ealing

None: Scottish, Donny, Cov, Ampthill & Blues

There are three official reserve weekends: 1st w/e Feb, 1st w/e Mar & last w/e Mar.

And  of course there are no matches yet confirmed as scheduled after 19th March.

My expectation is still that the RFU will cancel any cup competition, to complete the league, and to 'stress test' any clubs that rely on supporter receipts into insolvency. All part of removing a professional 2nd tier.

Saturday 1st January 2022:
Ampthill v London Scottish - 4-1 - I can't bring myself to back Scottish after seeing a century put on them.
Doncaster v Bedford - 5-0 Donny in rare form, especially at home this year. Blues played very well at home against Jersey, but I'm not sure I can see them getting 4 break through tries.
Hartpury v Nottingham - 4-1 - I'm just picking the home side.
Ealing v Cornish Pirates - 5-1 - At Vallis Way, and with a lot of players able to get healthy after a 3 week break, I'm thinking that Ealing will put up a lot of points. However, they always seem to forget about the table and leak some garbage time tries.
Richmond v Coventry - 4-1 - Picking home team again.

Amps 4-1 Scottish Two well matched teams but at home I go with Amps
Donny 5-2 Blues - Should be a classic Donny by 5 tries to 4
Pury 1-4 Nottingham I think Notts will pinch it by 3-5 points
Ealing 4-1 Pirates - Could go either way but I go with Ealing which should give Pirates every chance
Mond 2-2 Cov Spin a coin to separate these although 4-1 either way more likely

have a great New Year all - Any games streamed this weekend?

Ampthill 5-1 Scottish Home advantage
Donny 5-1 Blues - Close call . . again home advantage
Hartpury 5-1 Nottingham - Home advantage . . .
Ealing 5-0 Pirates - A battle royale  . . . on the plastic with Ealing having a point to prove - But postponed!!!!!!!
Mond 0-5 Cov - Cov getting players back and playing better and full time pros!! Richmond have not trained for a while, they have injury issues and have lost one of the DRs back to Quins! But on their day Richmond could beat anyone!!!

Wishing all on here a very Happy New Year with lots of fun and exciting rugby :-)

Ampthill 5-1 London Scottish Don't think the Ampts will be too challenged for this one
Doncaster 5-2 Bedford Fixture of the weekend going to be a cracker
Hartpury 5-0 Nottingham Just don't see much from Nottingham
Ealing P-P Pirates Would have been the fixture of the weekend
Richmond 2-5 Coventry Coventry recovering and this could be the day for the result

Richmond v Coventry postponed.

Looks like an outbreak at Cov following last week's 8 player isolation.

Statement from Coventry covers closure of player training facilities at the BPA to allow a deep clean.

Update. It looks as if the article has been taken down, possibly for an edit.

Anyone else think we should have a “winter break” for maybe a month and then play the rescheduled games in April/May instead of the cup?. These postponements are a real problem now as some clubs are far more affected than others. I feel that by carrying on, the integrity of the competition could be compromised.

That is the other thread.

With Rosslyn Park and now Donny, streaming is not having a lot of luck.

With next weekend designated a 'rugby free' weekend a good number clubs have currently in the middle of a break before matches resume on Jan 15. Not sure too many people will be upset if meaningful league matches continue into April whilst the meaningless cup is diminished/disappears, although less home matches overall will mean less revenue and more pressure on finances

It is only the Championship taking it off.
The lower leagues have had two weeks off, so are back to playing from the 8th.

I know the cup is not that meaningful, but even if we get 70% attendances that does put money in the coffers of the clubs, therefore I cannot support my fellow knights supporters in wanting the cancelling of the cup. We don’t have playoffs, we don’t have enough home fixtures without the cup, we need games to generate some income…….I vote keep it until something meaningful comes such as a 14 Team league and a decent cup competition

Disappointing from the Blues, we managed to get Garside in on the bench without any training to take on Jersey. Although one was injured towards the end of the game and another one is serving a suspension still - perhaps the RFU could’ve allowed it to be suspended a week.

We must only have 2 props at present ignoring Garside and that’s assuming neither have COVID.

All games should have stopped prior to Christmas and restarted Mid Jan.

As it is some clubs have played right though and some have a significant backlog. To run the league fixtures on until the end of the season and remove the cup ( in whatever format ) would be unfair on those who have managed ( by luck or judgment) to have stayed fairly covid free.

There is plenty of time for the postponed fixtures to be played before the end of March- at this point in time

Having reached the cusp of the next round, with 2/5 matches still on as things stand, I don't feel the system should be changed right now, ie for this weekend. Keep using the strict protocols which have enabled some games to take place while others, sadly, have been postponed.

I imagine the situation will be reviewed during first part of January; we can but hope that the current Omicron wave starts to level off - there are already reports of that in South Africa, but too soon to be sure that UK (and Channel Islands) will see that...

Fully agree with this - with 2/5 games still on the glass is very nearly half full. I got the timing of my Donny/Blues streaming booking hopelessly wrong but happy to see Donny get another week or two at the top of the Championship - until they visit St Peter early next year.

I must admit, I have not met Karl, but Jake has done very well for Cambridge, providing quick ball and making the odd darting run to keep defences thinking.

So let’s say the league was suspended from 18th Dec to 15th Jan, so taking 3 weeks out of the calendar. What happens if fixtures continue to be affected from 15th Jan? Even without the cup we would be in danger of running out of weeks. Also, if we do scrap the cup, that is a minimum of 3 home games of revenue that the clubs will miss out on.
Fingers crossed, next season will not be as severely affected and we will see things return to some form of normality.

A solid win for Ampthill today with two late tries by LS giving the score some respectability. We now have to wait two weeks for the Battle of Bedfordshire as having made everyone play on Boxing Day and New Years Day, the powers to be have given everyone the day off on that most exciting of weekends…..January 8!!!

With all of the cancelled fixtures from round 13 and 14, does anyone know why this weekend wasnt used to make-up the matches?

Posted By: kempstonblue

Matches were cancelled due to a CoVid19.
Better to use this weekend as a ‘CoVid’ circuit breaker. Then use the next two off weekends as catch up.

This weekend had been designated as a 'no rugby' weekend not as a 'catch up' weekend.

With only six weeks of matches scheduled and no evidence of a cup competition happening there are an awful lot if blank weeks in the next four months.

My view would be a bit different in that you try to use every opportunity to get games in. As in any big, complex project, your "slack" inevitably is taken up if you don't constantly push. Though perhaps I am biased by Ealing not playing for a month.
