I have just read Austin Healey's article in the Daily Telegraph about Caldy's promotion to the Championship.........he is talking more boll*x than usual.

I quote Mr Healey..."Caldy have got into the Championship based on natural local talent plus a huge amount of support from Sale Sharks who have let Caldy use their young Academy players. Caldy have in turn become something of a feeder club......"

Did Mr Healey check with Caldy RFC or Sale Sharks before he wrote this utter tosh?

I am sure Sale Sharks will be embarrassed by Mr Healey's crass and hugely inaccurate comments which undermine everything Caldy stands for and through innuendo slights Caldy's incredible achievement and all of Caldy's own players.

For the record:

Sale Sharks provided Caldy with two players at the start of the 2022 season and the two players played one game before Sale Sharks told Caldy that they were moving the two players to RGC. One player asked to stay at Caldy whiich he did. Throughout the season Nye Thomas (the other player) started two games for Caldy (lasted only 15 minutes before being injured in his first game) and came off the bench for two games. That is the sum total of Sale Sharks' huge amount of support' '...........just pathetic by Austin Healey.

Sale Sharks are totally blameless in this but Austin Healey has pi**ed off everyone at Caldy!

In one article Austin Healey has just denigrated everything Caldy is about!!!

Hi BE

Please don’t take what that waste of oxygen says as anything other than human waste product, the man seems to have this uncanny ability to talk from his derrière.

You actually read the Telegraph?

Typical lazy journalism - can't be bothered to check the facts before mouthing off. Disgraceful.

I am still incensed now.

Sale FC used 10 Sale Sharks dual reg players during the course of their National 1 season. That is fine as that is Sale FC's model and good luck to them.

However, that isn't Caldy's rugby model. "As far as we can with our lads"..........that is Caldy's model.

Anyone would think that Austin Healey's crass hugely inaccurate spin was prompted by the RFU who want the Championship sides all to be Premiership clubs 'A sides' and don't want the notion that a small rugby club can do it with their own players to get traction.

Austin Healey annoys the brown stuff out of me, his commentary on BT sport can "at times" can  be quite knowledgeable  and informative  but good god I'm sure he thinks he is a comedian and trust me he AIN'T!
His knowledge of Caldy must be pure guesswork so isn't  worthy of being taking seriously just like 98% of his pundit commentary

It would be nice if the discredited Healey offered an apology to the good folk at Caldy but I won't hold my breath.

On my part belated congratulations to Caldy on one of the greatest achievements in English rugby for many years. They are England's club of the year by a country mile.

The cartel that is the Premiership sponsored by the RFU would very much have wanted Sale FC to win through to the Championship because that would reinforce their Premiership/Premiership A side Championship rugby model.

The fact that a small rugby club like Caldy with no RFU funding, growing its own players, providing a pathway for other local players can win through to the Championship throws the 'England Academy' structure into very sharp relief.

How could this little club win through against the 'might' of the Premiership Academy resources?

By having the traditional values of Club Rugby running through its DNA that's how. The RFU and the Premiership seem hell bent on destroying this at Championship level........and of course for Mr Healey it is unfathomable that this could ever have happened without the 'huge support from Sale Sharks'

I reckon Mr Healey and most of those atop of the RFU and in the Premiership do not understand anything about proper Club Rugby

Thank you for your support WEvans.

This isn't just about Caldy, in my view this is about the soul of English Club rugby. That is why I am so incensed by the patronising clap trap and nonsense served up by Mr Healey

Kind Regards

Just checked and yes also went to St Anselms. I suspect then, its just a case of him not having a clue what goes on in 'the community game'

Thanks indeed FHLH, this is about our game and we need to ensure that spin and innuendo do not take us down the Premiership A league path

This is par for the course with Healey, he's at it for every game he's commentating on and I don't think he'll ever change.

Don't feed the trolls, it's what they thrive on.

Is this the Austin Healey who denigrates forwards’ intelligence regularly in commentary but is never pulled up about it? I wonder why his commentating colleagues put up with his constant carping and snide remarks. We turn the sound down when he’s on.

He started early. I can remember him strutting around my local in Leeds when he was at Carnegie College and he wasn't short of an opinion then.

Healey was a great player, but is an absolute duck of a person, was extremely pleased when he was battered by Ben Kay on the tv excuse for a show they used to be on.

I have submitted a letter of complaint to the Daily Telegraph using the link that FHLH kindly provided

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/editorialcomplaints" rel="nofollow - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/editorialcomplaints

this isn't a trivial matter. Austin Healey's article is akin to suggesting that Liverpool FC's fantastic season so far is actually down to the huge support provided by Chelsea because Mo Salah once played for Chelsea.............I am still incensed

Austin Squealy should never to be taken as a serious source of knowledge.  The Leicester Drip occasionally raises a sensible point in match commentary, but his innate bias quickly resurfaces alongside his misplaced self-belief in his comedic skills.  He is thin-skinned and despite dishing out his opinions can't take returned banter.

His post-rugby career at Credit Suisse seems to have been the most appropriate career move - becoming a wee merchant banker.

I complained to Telegraph - trust I got it right cos they, Healey, got us wrong 😢

Nice to see our  little club Caldy hit the headlines in the national press but, the patronising approach and the suggestion that Caldy was somehow a beneficiary of Sale Shark's largess in its use of Academy players was about as far from the reality as you can get.

All the more annoying because the great and the good of the Sale Sharks machine were present at the game supporting Sale FC which, in fielding six of Sale Sharks' Academy players on the day has exactly the sort of relationship with Sharks which Healey wrongly ascribed to Caldy.

Suggest you now provide the same space and ask Austin Healey to put right the wrong done to one of the little teams that has got to this level largely by dint of its own endeavours and adherence to traditional rugby values and club model.

I read the article this morning and was pleased to see Caldy mentioned. in such depth, with the good feeling that Nat Rugby was being highlighted in the Nat press. I admit I was not aware of the structure of the club in fine detail. I am not surprised he made a horlicks of it because all his pieces seem very thin and opiniated, to put it mildly!
All I can say from a Rugby lover down South well done Caldy. You have done the game and Nat leagues very proud

I picked this up from twitter, from Austin Healey :

"I said it was an amazing achievement Caldy getting promoted and great for the NW, Sale supported them as they will continue to do but as I said it wasn’t the reason they got promoted l… lots of horrible stuff in that forum"

Austin Healey is dissembling .........it is unfortunate that few rugby people like him, I do not have an opinion on that. I have only taken issue with his insinuation that Caldy were hugely helped by Sale Sharks.....and that Caldy is a feeder club......that is just factually incorrect and diminishes Caldy's 'huge' achievement, which was done with a squad of some 31.1 players with Caldy players being 30 and the two Sale Sharks players being 1.1 in total. That in my book is not 'huge support' from Sale Sharks.

However, having said all that the two Sale Sharks lads, full back Elliot Gourlay (25 games) and the diminutive scrum half Nye Thomas (1.6 games) are top lads and I would be very sure be welcomed back by Caldy next season......they both fitted in to the Caldy culture really well

As far as being a feeder club is concerned I do not know if a Caldy player has ever gone to Sale Sharks and I think the last player to leave Caldy to take up a professional career in the Premiership would be Sam Dickinson who went to Northampton via Rotherham some dozen or so years ago.
