Ampthill 4 vs 1 Bedford - Home win in the battle of Bedfordshire. Very glad that schedulers actually got this right for once.

Caldy 1 vs 5 Doncaster - Also, I'll be damned if the schedulers didn't set up a northern match upcorrectly as well. Someone at the RFU must have been sick on scheduling day.

Cornish Pirates 1 vs 4 Hartpury - Pirates didn't look very good vs. Ealing last weekend (and Ealing looked dreadful as well for most of the match).

London Scottish 5 vs Cambridge 0 - Quins B to beat Cambridge Handily.

Coventry 5 vs 2 Nottingham - I'm guessing a close, high scoring match.

I noticed that you failed to refer to mentioning the Quins B derogatory term when LS beat Ealing a few weeks back.

Amazing what a team with great team spirit can achieve at minimal cost.

Merry Christmas all.

Just looking at the Ampthill team, I didn’t realise how many Sarries players they have this season. I think it’s 7 in the starting lineup. Has this been the case all season?

'Scottish Bashing' aside (boring and repetitive)...
I was chatting to a senior committee member of the Pirates Staff that came to the RAG earlier in the season.  Smashing old fellow.
He discussed how he "wished he had his own players" as opposed to DRs/Loans etc, he never knew his starting XV (I recall him saying 14 in the squad that night ? - I have no clue where these players came from or how many were truly there - most from Chiefs one would imagine).
The point being that plenty of clubs at this level have some type of arrangements in place - however some supporters try to deny and or disguise it (unless of course you are fortunate enough to have the wealth of the trailfinders brand behind you as an example).

You're right. It has become fashionable to knock London Scottish even though they are playing within the regulations. I'm thinking of the good old days when only club members played for a club.

Happy Christmas 🎄🎄

LS have already won this season and great team spirit & minimal cost of putting sides out in the Championship are not exclusive to sides such as Caldy and Cambridge.

The days of teams playing in the Championship being membership playing sides only are long gone.

Every team in the Championship pay their players through various hybrid payment methods to turn out their sides each match day.

Let’s not try and kid ourselves otherwise.

I don't have anything against Scottish in particular, but I do thoroughly dislike sides that turn out with scads of dual registered players on a rotating basis. I decried Hartpury when they did it a few years ago to knock Richmond down and were essentially Gloucester A, and I will continue to state my distaste for Scottish fielding sides that are more Harlequins 2nd team. That is regardless of who they play.

I'm not saying that they are doing anything that is against regulations, but I do believe that the regulations need to change. So long as we continue to see teams with less of their 'own' players than dual-reg or loanees turning out, the Bill Sweeney's of the world will have a stick to beat the Championship clubs with.

I'm told there's only 10 D/R in the Scottish squad to play Cambridge - just over 40% and less than a LS core XV

If they were season long loans with salary costs I'd be less frustrated.

Well done Caldy and Cambridge!

Blues weren’t at their best today, but keep marching on with 5 points.

Blues dominated the scrum with a lot of penalties and a pushover and even pushed Ampthill off their ball a couple of times. However in the windy conditions the lineout was a disaster.

On to Coventry.

It was a bizarre last ten minutes, with Cambridge knocking on over the line, leading to a GLDO.
Then Scottish gain the ball and should have scored, but they knocked on - but with advantage.
Cambridge held them out and won a penalty, then went the length of the pitch, scoring with time in the red - leaving a tricky kick into the wind.

Do not know the official numbers, but not that many - looked like just over a thousand.

Great clip of the winning Cambridge conversion (a tough one, with ‘placer’ standing by due to wind) & subsequent celebrations on Champ TwitteX - I remember Jersey celebrating a 1st Champ win after 6 straight losses in 2012, our 1st season. And against Scottish too - by 20-17

Attendance 5047, a new BPA record.
Probably should've been more, but CCFC were playing just up the road.

Big attendances at Ampthill, Caldy, and Pirates this week, and now Coventry smash their home attendance record. This league is alive and kicking. Long may it continue.

Not sure what rated capacity is now, but I think around 5,300.
(The other match in the city this afternoon attracted 29208, and I know a good few of those would have attended the BPA if there hadn't been a City match. Shame really).

Absolutely right.

Yes a team calling itself London Scottish beat Ealing a few weeks ago but that side had more Harlequins players in it than London Scottish so it would be more accurate to say Harlequins beat Ealing.

The Championship clubs could also use this as a weapon to prevent the RFU's attempt to sabotage the current Level2 clubs by collectively refusing to take any "spare" players from Premiership clubs. That would really knacker them up and would require a collective stance taken across the whole league. Guess what - won't happen due to clubs own self-interests

Are you reading any of this Mr Sweeney.
Well of course not to answer my own question.
If he had deemed to visit the BPA yesterday two things would have occurred.
He would have received a very chilly reception from the Championship faithful & secondly witnessed a true Championship contest that was a credit tO the game.
But then we are talking Sweeney & the RFU .
I for one would relish half an hour locked in a room with him. Call if leadership, what a disgrace & on top of it he is not even a person with a proper Rugby background.
