Hi All - starting a thread for this week.

Ealing Trailfinders team to face Ampthill: Very solid side. Quite surprised to see Bobby DeWee sent to the bench, but it makes sense not to use the big squad for some rotation. Good to see David Johnston back from injury. A solid pack, with Kyle Whyte seemingly out with a knock from last week. The team is now properly playing for promotion, so I think that they will be motivated to go get the win.

At 08.35 this morning I travelled i from Red Houses into town on the 15 bus from the airport with an early group of Cov supporters who were up for the match. Brilliant support from imo the club most likely in the longer term to make it the prem.

Disappointing result for Richmond but excellent for Caldy, shows they are going to be very competitive in this league. Scottish allsorts with a poor result and Jersey underline just how they strong they are this year . .  all other results to be expected.

[QUOTE=Runitback] Jersey underline just how they strong they are this year . /QUOTE] Jersey forwards certainly were strong today and were the real difference between the two teams. Looking forward to eventually seeing Toby Venner play behind that pack.

We are in Wonderland! Great effort from the lads Nick Royle scored one of the greatest individual tries I have ever seen at any level…… 90 metres beat or fended off 5 would be tacklers…… gave the Ravers self belief. Caldy pack absolutely bossed Mond in second half…. Mond were blowing and looked completely shattered Mond were very hospitable and magnanimous…… loved their company

We are doing some preliminary planning on the coach….to extend the seating from 25 to 35 benches but I don’t think these plans will survive the next case of Malbec

Ampthill sit firmly at the bottom of the Championship after two games. No points. But be warned. Look at who they have played. They will soon be challenging Caldy for a top two spot. Everybody watch out.

Always incredibly hard to win in London, specially after a 6.30 am departure from our wooden shack
Wish I had been there, but we did have a few celebratory pints at the club after Twitter informed us of the great result

Donny produced three potential tries of the week yesterday. Some fantastic interplay to produce all of them. Looking forward to a home game next weekend- where I am hopeful the Knights faithful will see more of the same.

those tries will need to be truly brilliant to eclipse Nick Royle’s stunning 90 metre score for Caldy against Richmond yesterday,  fending off 5 tacklers en route to the corner…. best individual score I have ever seen at any level and ranks up there with John Bentley’s score for the Lions against a SA provincial side

Very close game at Lady Bay. Could have gone either way. Pirates defended doggedly at the end to keep their line intact and close out the game.

Donny’s tries full of brilliant continuity and team effort but Nick Royle’s try is one the greatest individual scores I have ever seen at any level …. even surpasses Gareth Edwards' individual score at Cardiff Arms Park against Scotland in 1972 5 Nations game .

Trust me it takes a lot for me to say that. Judge for yourselves

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGqwnX_64WU" rel="nofollow - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGqwnX_64WU

It was a miracle score by Gareth Edwards who was 25 at the time and in his absolute physical prime.

Nick Royle will be 39 in a week's time. To score that try is scarecly believable...........if Nick had been 25 not one Richmond player would have gotten close enough to get a hand on him.............but to have the strength speed and sheer talent to fend off 5 Richmond players during a 90 metre run is just f****ng awesome.

I am sure the great Bill Mclaren would have have used words to that effect.

The Richmond tacklers went too high for sure but you have to give all the praise to Nick Royle to have the talent and the pace. He is still very quick and if the tacklers had tried to go lower perhaps Nick would have had that extra fraction of a second that would have seen him clear without contact.

It really is a great effort, and I suspect it will very much feature in the try of the week. Will Caldy get that award two weeks on the bounce?

Great effort from Royle, Ricky Tomlinson never travelled that far in the whole series.......

Appalling attempts at tacking from the Mond defenders but every credit to NR. What a breath of fresh air Caldy are to the league.

Update from Championship Rugby on Twitter:

Dear @CaldyRFC, Champ Admin here. Apologies 🙏 While going through footage last night [very] mistakenly thought Nick Royle’s 36th min try had ended up in touch. This should, of course, have been nominated and will go into a vote tomorrow with the winner of today's TOTW poll.

They rarely give tries of the week for 1 man efforts, usually flowing team moves. Personally thought the Doncaster try was the best effort on show (including the Caldy effort)

Posted By: Brizzer
Date Posted: 21 Sep 2022 at 16:45
It did look forward, but obviously the camera was not at a very good angle to see for sure. Wonderful flowing move mind. Torn between that and the Donny try. The Caldy try was special and a real lesson in don’t stop running until you are on the floor. Have to say that the Mond tackling was horrendous!! Much more of that and the dreaded trap door will start to open behind them.
Great to see teams moving the ball around though.
