Ealing Trailfinders to face Bedford Blues: Lol. This is the team you run out for a final game of the season dead rubber. 3 recent academy grads, plus several other players getting first or second appearances. There's some quality on the bench, but I'm very disappointed not to get a final dose of JCR, Andrew Davidson, Pat Howard, Jonah Holmes, or some of the other leavers. Honestly, didn't even know Frankie Sleightholme was on the team.

1 Elliot Chilvers

2 Cam Terry

3 George Davis

4 Barney Maddison

5 Danny Cutmore (c)

6 Josh Taylor

7 Simon Uzokwe

8 Will Montgomery

9 Lloyd Williams

10 Dan Lancaster

11 Frankie Sleightholme

12 Jordan Holgate

13 Reuben Bird-Tulloch

14 Angus Kernohan

15 Michael Dykes

16 Matt Cornish

17 James Kenny

18 Biyi Alo

19 David Douglas Bridge

20 David O’Connor

21 Jordan Burns

22 Billy Twelvetrees

23 Tom Collins

Blues have names their 6 leavers in the squad. Would have liked Worley and Booj.

Bedford Blues starting XV:

15. Ewan Baker, 14. Sean French, 13. Jamie Elliott, 12. Jordan Venter, 11. Dean Adamson, 10. Will Maisey, 9. Alex Day (C); 1. Joey Conway, 2. James Fish, 3. Bryan O’Connor, 4. Jordan Onojaife, 5. Alex Woolford, 6. Luke Frost, 7. Joe Howard, 8. Cameron King

Bedford Blues Replacements:

16. Jacob Fields, 17. Jamie Jack, 18. Oisin Heffernan, 19. Robin Williams, 20. Kieran Curran, 21. James Lennon, 22. Louis Grimoldby, 23. Toby Thame

Very disappointing to see Ealing fielding a less than full strength side. I don’t expect them to care but three clubs are chasing the runners up spot including Bedford.

Two.
Bedford can't do it.

Both clubs can’t move in the table.

There was an hour delay to kick off at Lady Bay due to awaiting medical cover. But at half time it’s Archers 21 Ravers 3.

Ealing 14 - Bedford 0 - 21' - Uzokwe and Bird Tulloch, two of the only frequent starters, score Ealing's tries. Lancaster converts both to my surprise.

Ealing 26- Bedford 5 - 30' - A pair of great tries from Ealing (crossfield kick on one and 70 meters through the hands on another) sandwich a short range try for Blues.

Strange one... Blues making a sub, but Ealing allowed to do a cross field kick to score!

Ealing 33- Bedford 5 - 51' - Kernohan scores in the corner when no one was paying attention. Weird try.

Ealing 33- Bedford 12 - 54' - Bedford shoot theough the middle to score from 20 meters after sustained pressure

Did you see the Blues making a substitution on that side of the pitch and a player getting treatment!  A mess up with the officials.

Also Ealing should have had a red with the total flip by Sleighthome.

Ealing 52- Bedford 12 - 72' - Bird-Tulloch dances through half a dozen players, to score from 30ms. Unstoppable today

Ealing 59- Bedford 12 - 75' - Chip over fails, and Ealing break down the side 80 meters. My prediction could not have been more wrong. The kids were hungry, and then the old hands were fresh. Doesnt hurt that Bedford has had discipline issues.

Another strong second half performance by the Pirates secures the win,  five points and second place in the table. Sumbleddyboys.

Onojaifes sucker punch on Barney Madison was cowardly and should have been another red like he received on his last visit for biting Tizzano. He is a dirty , average and thankfully retiring player good riddance .

A few final thoughts on this weekend's match at Vallis Way:

1. I really enjoy the doubleheader format, especially with the early women's match kick off at 1230. You can make a very nice day of rugby that way.
2. I suspect that the back to back matches helped bolster the attendance, with something in the way of 2200 reported.
3. Also, about 400 or so Blues fans (I'd guestimate). Glad to see them come down, and I had a few nice chats.
4. Unfortunately, the catering let itself down again. Huge queues for the only food on offer: Burger and Chips for £12, or sausage and chips for £10.
5. Similar story for the beer - I guarantee many sales were lost for lack of enough bar staff to serve efficiently at the container bar. A real false economy only having two staff there.
6. Happy to see the Ealing former academy players coming back and performing so well. In the long term, Ealing need to develop players and not just buy them in. I think that's what we're seeing with the large departures and reduced number of signings this year.
7. Wasn't so happy with how chippy the game was - I believe 5 or 6 yellow cards overall.
8. Less booing than I would have expected when the RFU representative came on to award the trophy.

That's another year in the books.

Maybe the winning team in the Championship should refuse to accept the trophy until automatic promotion is re-established.

Leave the AAARGHFU freeloaders out on their own in complete silence
