Roth were actually down to 12 at one point and for the first time Roth were second best in the scrum, not all the time but they are a very powerful scrum. Don’t know who their no.6 is but he is one hell of a player. They did have two Exeter loanees but nonetheless that shouldn’t take anything away from their efforts today.

They won a number of our line outs. Roth were still down to 14 at the end (I think) and we didn’t have any real chances 2nd half but we never gave up, won the pen and cue bedlam.

We got out of jail there but we’ll take it but well played Plymouth & safe journey home.

Well as a Titans fan, that was a very odd game yesterday,...

Firstly, I never criticise the referee, as normally things even themselves out. However yesterday his performance did lead to some frustration. I have to agree with the Plymouth player who when stood behind the goal during the game, described the referee as "atrocious".

He must have penalised us over 20 times, his hand was up in the air so much he must have had bicep ache at the end of the game. He awarded Plymouth a penalty try, at one point we had 3 players in the bin, and we saw something that I have never seen before.

It was a Plymouth restart after a Rotherham score, but the kick off was delayed as the referee was over with the fourth official, and the next thing we knew he awarded Plymouth a penalty kick from the centre circle - which was scored. We were all baffled.

Then the same Plymouth player who had provided his feedback on the referee, told us that one of our binned players was allowed to go back on before his 10 minutes had elapsed, and because that fourth official was 'local', he had given a penalty????

All that said, if I had been a Plymouth supporter or player on that long trip back south, I would have felt gutted. They battered us all game, they didn't allow us to get going at all, and we hardly won a line-out all game. Obviously I was really pleased when that kick went over with the last play of the game, but it was definitely not deserved.

I suppose the positive out of it was that we were outplayed all game, but still managed to win, so we must have done something right. One to Sedgeley next week....

"Firstly I never criticise the referee......." Then write four paragraphs criticising the ref.

Even allowing for the referees poor handling of the game, Plymouth lost because of poor decision making.

They had three very kickable penalties in the second half. Each time they kicked to the corner and went for a catch and drive and each time we shut them out with magnificent defending. The one penalty they did get was resulting from the issue you raised, and they kicked that from halfway.

They should have no complaints about our penalty at the end, and if they were upset about that they should look back to abysmal decision making, which would have made our last minute winning kick academic.

They were very good in the scrum downs although we won more of them as the game went on, and superb in the line outs but were poor in open play, but you could argue that the referees calls were bad for both teams (one high tackle on our player while he was in the air was atrocious but the referee waived play on) and as a consequence there was never any flow. Big difference was our ability to finish off what little came our way.

A Plymouth fan at the game said as such about the going for goal.

Sadly couldn’t make it myself, look forward to Rotherham visiting in a few months.

Correct, hence how much more obvious the standard stood out this game.

Mose were penalised for that fairly recently.  First time I had seen it as well

Ever thought the ref may be correct and the players & spectators got it wrong. Why is it always the ref that is getting it wrong. A ref in charge of first team games at Nat 1 has probably been doing 1st team games for at least 6 years probably longer and undergone training & coaching. I cannot remember hearing about any spectators at these sessions. Plus no ref no game.

There is a YouTube video with highlights of the (many) scoring plays.

Good evening Rabbie,

I have just spent over 2 hours watching the Roth match and this is a first, I agree with you. I thought Ben had a reasonable game, it certainly helps when we have the benefit of ref link. My only concern is that if the Roth player returned before they kicked their penalty should it have been allowed. No doubt you can have a look on the elite hub and  let me know your view.
