Being a former second row, my brain hurts.

This is how Wikipedia shows the new structure with the Championship being done away with by a thousand cuts down to 10 teams in 2023-24. Can anyone confirm this revised structure?

In 2020, it was announced that a new league structure would be implemented in the community game from 2022–23. The new structure which was partly in response to the  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/COVID-19_pandemic" rel="nofollow - COVID-19 pandemic  will be reviewed every three years and will see the following changes: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_rugby_union_system#cite_note-5" rel="nofollow - [5]

  • The size of leagues at levels 3 and 4 are capped at 14 teams (down from 16).
  • The size of leagues at level 5 and below are capped at 12 teams (down from 14).
  • Level 4 will consist of three leagues (up from 2).
  • Level 5 will consist of six leagues (up from 4).
  • Level 6 will consist of twelve leagues (up from 8).
  • A shortened season and protected breaks over Christmas and at specified other times for player welfare.
  • Leagues largely regional based to reduce travel.
  • An optional cup competition introduced for level 5 and below.

As another dim second row, where does it say level two goes to 10 sides?
Largely academic tbf. My club (through no fault of their own) has already lost my season ticket sale for next season. And I imagine many more are thinking along the same lines.
I'll pick and choose when I go from now on as I seem to be losing the 'habit' thanks to the ludicrous structure (sic) that we're suffering from now.

Still not sure if any official announcement has been published regards Championship.
Seems supporters (and clubs representatives?) hoped, expected 14.
RFU offered support based on 12.
10 would be as ridiculous as now, where you are expecting clubs which if not professional players, are organisations attempting to run a business in a professional manner. Asking them to do so on income from 9 home matches (based on cup as this year) at least one cup match.

Prior to pandemic it was 12 clubs, 11 home games, a mini league with 3 home matches in a cup. 14 games.
So 14 games to 10.
Central funding reduced 50%.

Some old farts at HQ have lost the plot.

The older I get, the more the RFU leave me confused.

Losing the habit.
Losing spectators.

Couldn’t make it up could you?

I am not sure anyone is proposing 10 sides in the Championship.

Indeed, I thought the NCA had been told it was to be 12 teams - with two sides up from National 1 as long as the side winning the Championship has a suitable ground to enable them to go up to the Premiership.

However, I think Halliford has suggested this still needs to be voted on at RFU Council.

AS a former player in all 3 rows of the scrum I consider myself exceptionally talented and I don't have a clue what is going on, but then I don't believe I am alone here.

I played at LH twice. I just wasn't stupid enough to stay there.

Let's be honest, this is the RFU we're talking about, so if no one is proposing it, that's probably what we'll get. They'll manage to find the unique middle way that does the most damage, with the least acceptable outcome to the largest number or people.

That describes the structure below the Championship - so you are probably right.

My reference to 10 clubs in the Championship has now been deleted from Wikipedia - clearly a source with many wikis on the same subject.
