Today's Times, part of article, rest behind pay wall.

Premiership Rugby is considering changing the name of the English game’s top division as part of a radical rebrand, in an effort to engage new supporters.

The Times can reveal that executives who run English club rugby union are also exploring moving the league’s play-off semi-finals to neutral venues in future, but have signed an agreement with the RFU for the final to stay at Twickenham a minimum four years. They are then likely to renew that agreement until 2032.

Premiership Rugby has bold plans to reshape the club game by trying to attract new audiences and sponsors. As part of that vision, it has appointed external marketing consultants to come up with potential new names for the league over the summer.

I am not sure that the name is the issue.
If the clubs were spending their money not the RFU's I would not care.

Thankfully Leicester Tigers have cleared their debt, Northampton, seem to be pretty solvent, Newcastle have cut their cloth accordingly and the rest all seem to have money to spend, especially the two West Country "B's"

They want a new exciting name.

Championship 1?

The older I get, the more the RFU leave me confused.

The Wikipedia definition of the phrase “to put lipstick on a pig" couldn’t be more appropriate than here: “making superficial or cosmetic changes to a product in a futile effort to disguise its fundamental failings”.

Looking at Northampton's balance sheet, their net assets seem to match the value assigned to the P-shares. Which as we know is significantly more than they will get when they sell them.

In other words, Franklin's Gardens is mortgaged to the hilt.

They also lost £500,000 in 22/23 - and at some point they need to start repaying DCMS.

How about "The Bankrupt League"? It would save changing the name again in a couple of years and would adequately describe a league "won" time and again by a club who relentlessly cheated.

How about "CVC Lip Service League"?
