I believe these are the level 6 leagues for next season
London North------------------
Colchester Amersham & Chiltern Chingford Brentwood North Walsham Eton Manor Thurrock Ruislip Saffron Walden Letchworth Garden City Old Priorians Fullerians Diss Old Haberdashers HAC
London South ------------------
Chichester Havant Tottonians CS Rugby 1863 Cobham Sevenoaks Gravesend Maidstone Chobham Brighton London Cornish Old Colfeians
So two to go South I guess HAC plus one One Midlands side will need to more to London North
Midlands West -------------------
Bromsgrove Syston Burton Dudley Kingswinford Stratford Upon Avon Moseley Oak Sutton Coldfield Worcester Hereford Stoke on Trent Wolverhampton Stourbridge Lions Camp Hill Rugby Lions
Midlands East -------------------
Bedford Athletic Kettering Old Northamptonians Lutterworth Huntingdon & District Melton Mowbray Market Rasen & Louth Paviors Bugbrooke Leighton Buzzard Northampton Old Scouts Wellingborough (reprieved due to LW) Melbourne Peterborough Oundle
One to go to London North but not sure who.
North East --------------
Cleckheaton West Hartlepool Alnwick Driffield Bradford & Bingley Percy Park Malton and Norton Morpeth Dinnington Huddersfield Y.M.C.A. Northern Bridlington West Leeds
North West ----------------
Firwood Waterloo Stockport Penrith Northwich Wilmslow Vale of Lune Warrington Blackburn Burnage Altrincham Kersal Rochdale St Benedicts Carlisle Manchester Douglas (IOM)
One to go East - was Penrith
South West East -----------------------
Salisbury Old Patesians Old Centralians Witney Banbury Swindon Royal Wootton Bassett Chippenham Oxford Harlequins Grove Marlow Bicester Wimborne
Tribute South West West -----------------------------------
Launceston Weston-super-Mare Clevedon Drybrook Matson Newent Thornbury North Petherton Okehampton Bridgwater & Albion Teignmouth Bideford Exeter University Cullompton
My guess is Keynsham (that is K E Y ... ) would go East with the other Bristol sides.

Camquin you forgot about Medway who won L2S, I do agree that it'll probably be HAC moving Souf of the Thames!! So no one needs to go from L2N to Midlands.

Lets try that again.
Somehow I had forgotten Medway but included Weston Super Mare (who are promoted to SW premier) So I had the correct number of teams.
London South are short one side London North have one extra side North West have one to many North East have one to few
South West East are short of one Midlands East have one to many
So I guess London and the North sort themselves out (HAC and Penrith) and one Midlands East side moves West and a Midlands West side goes South West - possibly Bromsgrove who were in Nat 3 SW this season.
London North------------------

Without doing any calculations, I would have expected Worcester or possibly even Hereford to be closer to the South West East clubs than Bromsgrove, and therefore more likely to move across from the Midlands.

Understand Bugbrooke RFC have been level transferred from Midlands East 1 to South West East 1
|
Posted By: Athman
Date Posted: 13 May 2017 at 11:49
There were some errors in the Midlands allocations above, certainly Syston are an East club and as was sorted out above no Midlands to London transfer is needed at this level. I have also heard that Bugbrooke have been transferred South West presumably because Leighton Buzzard were able to activate the one year protection rule. Midlands West therefore seems to have 13 and Midlands East 15 so one team will need to move. Could be Lutterworth or Melbourne I guess.

Camquin, sorry after all your efforts there is another change in the LSE leagues.
Just found out HAC have had points deducted for an unregistered player and so they won't be promoted. South Woodham Ferrers will go up. So it looks like now it'll Thurrock going into L1S, not quite such a stunning location!!!

No Pistacio - its all confirmed now (see SWF RFC website). South Woodham Ferrers promoted as HAC apparently fielded an ineligible player in the Play Off, thereby forfeiting the match. What would have happened if SWF decided they didnt want the promotion is a more interesting question however...

They probably would have just given a reprieve to Sudbury a la London Welsh.

If barking had a few points under their belt they could have got their second reprieve in 2 years!
I have been told by a friend this afternoon that Thurrock have elected to go south. Perhaps they fancy their chances a bit better there. They will be missed. Great committee and good team to play.

Yep Thurrock have volunteered to head south, though they may have been sent that way anyway on the mileage basis. New Head Coach there, so am guessing they will be aiming high and as you say, may fancy their chances. Adds another new club for me to visit in the summer months as I continue my off season habit of visiting all the grounds we will be playing the next season that I have never been to before (I cant stand the summer - am like a rudderless ship with no rugby to anchor the week!!)

Dickon. It wont be long mate. Time will fly by. Be positive. We have The Lions, Home nations tours, plenty of 7's tournos, Southern Hemisphere competitions, and loads of time filling in these blogs to keep us all going, until late August then the pre-season friendlys ko. Withdrawal symptoms will be tested but not quite cold turkey.!!

Lutterworth and Melbourne are moving from Midlands One East to Midlands One West and Stratford join Banbury in South West One East.
Apologies for the now incorrect information on Bugbrooke.

Having reffed and played you guys, looking forward to seeing you at Fowlers Wells.
My top 4 are:
Havant Chichester Cobham Thurrock
Maidstone and Brighton to fight for survival.
It's a great league and some great banter and great friends at this level, I just hope Chichester have grown up since their last visit to this level where they made themselves unpopular on and off the field. Watched them twice last year and saw no change.

I think that Havant will be back with a vengeance next season after being pipped to the play-off spot. Tottonians were slow to start last season but I think they've got it all together now ad if they can keep it together they will be strong. So I think it will be between those two for promotion and playoffs along with Chichester if they can keep some of their players. Then again, Medway are back where they feel they should be and will be strong but I think that season in L2SE will have disrupted them and so would just miss out.
Brighton will probably avoid the drop if they keep the players they recruited towards the end of last season. Maidstone if they get a bad start like last season, may well be struggling to avoid it.
|
Posted By: Gareth
Date Posted: 04 Jun 2017 at 10:35
I'm not sure about Havant they were the best team i saw last season ( including Sidcup who i saw lose but they had already been promoted) & are normally very strong in the second half of the season but they were lucky to win some of the games in the second half of the season this time. Totts will have lost a couple of good players also & have a new coaching team ( the Hav 8 is coaching & Pierre has retired ) so that may take some time.
I'm with you on Brighton i thought they were very good 2nd half of the season & my hunch is they will keep that squad together & do well.
That said i would not rule out any of the other teams because they are all good solid teams who know how to play the game & games will be closer this season, so can & will go either way.

While the horses are talking -
Trailfinders have signed Alex Seers from Chobham on a full time contract, he's a FH with a very accurate boot from place and hand. He's an ex England Counties player. Wish him the best and know he'll be more than capable at the higher level.
Also Chobham's tight head Sam Gratton has signed with London Irish Wild Geese.
Both came up through our mini and junior ranks and will be missed.

should have mentioned that Rob Lawrence left very amicably. He used to have his own rugby coaching business but left that to go down a different non rugby road and as he lives in Heathfield,I think it was an inevitable end of the road. I wouldn't be surprised if he has a breather and reappears somewhere near the M25 in the future

To be honest, I couldn't think of many that were obvious candidates. Brighton recruited well last year to avoid it and the others still in there were of good standard. So I just thought I'd pick two new clubs and Maidstone as they struggled a bit last year. That being said, Maidstone's season fell apart pretty much when they lost to Tunbridge Wells on the opening day when they had played quite well.

And I bet they will have wardens that patrol around about 20 minutes into the game. I note that Chichester members get a free ticket but what about the courtesy extended to their guests?

Totts Scrape to a win 31-29 Vs Brighton.

Brighton must have kept what they received in the latter half of last season and have recruited well on top of that. I still think if Tottonians have kept what they had last season then they will be competing for promotion, as long as they can get past Havant angry at missing out last year and that Medway pushing on from where they feel they should be after the RFU pushed them down.

Totts V Hav is always a Battle. Both Teams have lost a few key players. It looks like Cornish gave them a good game today.
Thurrock Losing was a surprise.

Cornish were without a number of players as well, Gareth, so it made the outcome v Havant even more promising.

Vale of Lune looked to have strengthened, Dorrington returning from Fylde along with the more impressive Fylde/Lancashire powerhouse Evan Stewart. A big win at the weekend & could well be the team to beat.

Today we welcome everyone's Favourite Club.. Few players missing today both coaches who retired at the end of the season playing. So i think Chi will be too strong for Totts in centre field.

Couldn't get down to Tott's today due to work, can't believe I missed a 14 ( or 15 ? ) try game. Chi evidently flattered by a significantly under strength Tott's side, as we were last week when Sevenoaks ran us closer then the final score suggested.
I have to say -despite Chi seemingly not being welcome anywhere - , its a joy to be back in this league and watch some free-flowing rugby again after three years of national league attrition. Looking forward to a great season of competitive games.

Regardless of the players we were missing (8) Chi looked a very strong side. It's not fitness or the skill level in this league it's having depth within the club to cover week after week that counts.

Go on then, I give in who or what are 'Chi' ? This a national thread, you'll have to be more explicit than this ...;-)

Thoroughly enjoyed the game at Loo yesterday, great team performance. Having Capt Jack back was huge, also Tupou lived up to his billing with some tremendously impressive carries. The returning Tom Booth played intelligently at 10 striking up a good partnership with Roberts @9. Loving our new yanky doodle dandy prop, can see him becoming a fans favourite in no time & Mckie has brought that little bit of nous required, thought he played brilliantly. You can see it coming together slowly but surely & with the 2nd team beating Sale & the ladies winning their last warm up against the Army, it was a decent day all-round.

Watched Cobham v Chobham in the Surrey Derby game. Two well matched sides and the game went down to the last minute of the match with the visitors finally getting their nose ahead for a win. Don't think either will be competing for the promotion places come May!
Probably the smallest crowd I've seen at L6 for a long time, maybe they all knew of the impending deluge from the skies!!

Good to hear some positive news from up your way LF. One or two interesting games in the pipeline and we should be in a better position to judge come mid October? I'm travelling up for Wilmslow v Port but will be looking at the result on the 30/9 with interest especially as you have home advantage.
Promoted teams in the league above having mixed fortunes - its a big step up as we both know.

Think we'll see where we are next weekend Vs Wilmslow. Certainly not getting carried away but there was some terrific stuff played yesterday with a real zip & a great buzz between the lads.

Are you saying that Douglas aren't fit to be in the same league as Waterloo Rumble ?
From where I'm sitting it makes sense to treat each team on its merits at this stage and Loo F is quite right to focus on next week's game given that yesterday Wilmslow defeated Altrincham Kersal last weeks victors over Loo.

Bigmal - on the contrary - having played at Douglas on numerous occasions in the past - great club, great people and I have total respect for them. I was simply making the point that only a few seasons ago, the club was playing against teams like Macclesfield, Caldy, Chester, Preston Grasshoppers and Sedgley Park. Now we are celebrating a hope win against Douglas!

Rumble, You forgot to add...with a bunch of young lads, all eager & playing for the shirt, with a spirit befitting the club. The buzz around the place is something to behold & not seen for some time..u should sample it for yourself, it will surprise you.

Come on Rumble I started my career with Macclesfield when we played Sefton, Hoylake andOld Parkonians amongst others from your patch. As I recall in those days S Park were very much a "junior" club. Things change and unfortunately in the case of Waterloo the change has been significant.
Lets see where we are in October when the league has settled down

Out of interest I looked at the leagues BELOW Waterloo's current level - Liverpool St Helens ( whichever way you view them), New Brighton, Broughton Park and West Park ( St Helens) were all big or biggish names back in the day. Currently New Brighton are propping up the table !

BM
Your spot on with Sedge's league position on the outset of leagues and level of fixtures before leagues which had us firmly in the aspirational bracket of the lower food chain. But what aspiration and ambition.
You name some great names and you could keep going through all the regions of the country and see the same results. I am very biased but none mentioned are better than BP, but factually not many were bigger than Waterloo.
It's going to be a long hard road for Loo made even harder by their weight of history which goes before the club regardless of what they are doing now on the field but that's all you can do, make new history by your present deeds. Good luck to Loo and remember it could have been much worse you could of had the same fall of the very mighty Orrell. Now that was a fall.
All the best
