My sources are telling me that the RFU are planning a reorganisation below level 2 into 6 regions. I have a very uncomfortable feeling that this will be cover for a round of redundancies at lower and middle levels within the RFU to pay for the increase in the cost of the new Premiership Agreement.
My sources tell me that this restructuring is likely to be voted on by the RFU Council very shortly. If my sources are correct and my assumption about lay offs is also correct (which I strongly believe it is) then it shows the disgraceful extent that the RFU is in complete cahoots with the Premiership and CVC cartel.
When are the rank and file clubs going to get serious about turfing out the EXecutive.

Nothing short of a revolution is required, "Carlings old farts" really are the most despicable bunch running any sport in the land, even worse than the government these days.

Not sure how 6 regions could work Big Eddie, surely it has to be 2,4 or 8...any thoughts?

Congratulations Big Eddie in getting "planning" and "RFU" in the same sentence.
On a more serious note as I have said previously it is time for the clubs from Championship level down to walk away from the RFU. The so-called governing body have nothing to offer the clubs other than false promises and hardship and we have enough of that from our politicians at the moment.

Given there is no inter-regional competition, or even regional sides, aligning regions with leagues makes a certain amount of sense.
So if we are keeping three leagues at level 4 and 6 at level 5, then three - or possibly six regions is not stupid.

Have to agree when will the championship and clubs below, realise It's now time to join together. The RFU have made it clear they are only interested in the prem

If you cut off the roots of a plant it dies, if you block the flow of blood from an animal it will die, I think the RFU may just find the same will apply to rugby. Feed the roots and everything flourishes, to end the analogy, it's time to prune out some dead wood.

Camquin I have some of the detail about what the RFU are proposing and although I haven't really considered it there may be some kind of logic to it. However I have a very deep mistrust of the RFU and its motives and when yet another reorganisation/restructuring is proposed at the same time the Professional Game Agreement is being finalised my antennae are twitching uncontrollably
If there are cost cutting measures implemented against the Community Game at the same time as the Professional Game gets a boost in income from the RFU I find that morally offensive.........and doubly so if it means that people below the Executive Board lose their jobs.
I have no trust or faith in the RFU anymore which is why I am viewing what is being proposed with very deep suspicion.

At least three players in the Premiership Final have benefitted from Community game - Northampton's Fraser Dingwall (Mini & Youth at Cambridge) and George Furbank, Huntingdon RFC then loan matches at Cambridge as well as Bath's Ben Spencer, a season at Cambridge before moving to Saracens at 18. There will be loads of other Premiership players in today's 46 who relied on volunteer led community rugby for their introduction to the game - let's not break the opportunity to progress up the ladder. (I've been reminded of Alex Waller, Alex Coles (M&Y) and Alex Moon!! - 6 players)

Does the RFU know the meaning of planning?
------------- The older I get, the more the RFU leave me confused.

Alex Moon also had 30 games at Cambridge, some alongside Furbank, but I think he was a Saints loan player.

Rank and file, say Level 6 and below get little or nothing from the RFU, they seem to be unconcerned.
If the Championship clubs were to go to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne, it might be different, although I suspect such a useful means of dispute resolution is not in the RFU Rules.... perhaps it should be a proposal from the Championship clubs that such a clause is adopted.

From what I can see, appeals to the Court of Arbitration for Sport are only allowed in relation to doping matters. Anything else is dealt with under RFU regulations.

The rank and file clubs get nothing from the RFU, but they also expect nothing.
And they do not think any other arrangement would offer them anything more.
Therefore, it is very hard to get them involved.
Expecting them to rise up is a little like Winston thinking, "If there is hope anywhere, it lies with the proles."

If you think the RFU are abusing their dominant position it would be the Competition and Markets Authority to appeal to. Getting them involved in professional rugby to clear it all up would be a lot of faff but potentially good. The current system of the RFU being the "governor" and chief commercial rival of the clubs, who they then work to split apart and weaken, is profoundly unhealthy.

Forgive my ignorance but can someone explain how the RFU reorganisation will actually impact clubs at any level? Will going down to six regions reduce any financial support or access to regional RFU officers, for instance? It’s not obvious to someone who has always been involved at lower levels where the only contact is club insurance and international tickets.

CAS seems the ideal route:
Binding arbitration
“Any dispute arising from the present Statutes and Regulations of the ... Federation which cannot be settled amicably shall be settled finally by a tribunal composed in accordance with the Statute and Regulations of the Court of Arbitration for Sport to the exclusion of any recourse to the ordinary courts. The parties undertake to comply with the said Statute and Regulations, and to accept in good faith the award rendered and in no way hinder its execution.”
Mediation
Middleman to assist in negotiation
However if the RFU are not signed up to it the CAS cannot get involved.

My concern is that the proposed restructuring is somewhat of a smoke screen to cut costs and staff to help pay for the new Professional Game Agreement. If financial and human support to the Community Game remains unaffected or improved I am not concerned about the restructuring. However I am deeply sceptical about the RFU’s motives for this proposed restructuring with my overriding concern that more of the RFU’s resources will be diverted from the Community game to the Professional games.

I read that the RFU have opened their books to Team England Rugby - the newEngland squad umbrella company covering those (25) players with a new contract with the RFU. Shame The Championshiip clubs are not afforded such transparency.
