It just shows how very very wrong the RFU are getting everything and time for a total new broom and change. This lot do not have the interest of the greater game

In a year when the Prem lost 3 clubs
20% of the Prem workforce are now looking for jobs
Not a penny extra going to the Champ and nil by funding to anything below that save a couple of gallons of 4* if you have to travel 2000 miles on a Sat

The country going into recession and the RFU are lets face it skint and really do not have a penny
The loss of the main sponsor for Europe

So ill tell you what we can do.

Why not throw around £100k pay cheques for the lucky few who are off to France for 3 weeks!

I really think it is quite unbelievable, it really is two fingers up to everybody else..

We will do what we like!

Not sure if this helps but it adds some context at least

£100k per player seems par for a big union.

Have you got a source for this? Not easy to comment when we don't have the full story.

Fair enough - but one of the most compelling comments I've seen recently was something along the lines of

'no one begrudges players being well rewarded for putting their bodies on the line. Unfortunately we and they need to come to terms with the fact that increasingly we just can't afford to match their and our expectations.'

Basically, it's looking like the good times for being a professional rugby player are coming to an end.

Sorry, that request was directed at the original poster who quoted £100k per player.

With 827millions viewers and 20 teams with 30 players it’s only £60million so works out each viewer pays less than 8p per player I see no issue

From what I have read, there is no performance element in the £100k

Could be 3 games or fewer for some depending on final squad size.

I would have thought that some incentive could / should be offered.

But hey ho, this is RFU we're talking about so flush with cash with their £100m forecast losses

Oh please, this is another ludicrous claim from world rugby, similar to the world cup being the third most watched sporting event after the olympics and the world cup.

The world population is a little over 8 bill, of which nearly 3 bill come from China and India a lone. So they are claimimg that almost 20 % of the remaining world pop watch the rugby world cup. I know you can prove anything you want with statistics, but really.

As for the third most watched sporting event, God knows what formula 1, tennis, golf, athletics etc make of the claim. Mind you, Wasps were the biggest rugby club in the world, before they went bust owing £100 mill.

What do viewing numbers have to do with participants remuneration? The London 2012 Olympics had viewing figures of 3.6 Billion.
