Esher were excellent first half, I think the hill caught them out and some very clinical Sedge play.

Plenty of tries across the league today, with full time results generally going as expected I'd say.
Well done Sedge, that's a hammering after what looked like a much closer first half against Esher.
Rams looking slick with perhaps the most impressive win of the day against a decent DMP side. Not many sides will come away from Old Bath Road with points this season.

Great to see Roth get a win in their first game back in the league. They’ll surprise a few people this year. Going to Clifton Lane won’t be easy at all.

That’s a poor retort and we were stood next to you under the posts. The mistakes were driven by pure pressure from the home side. Dont be disingenuous. Sometimes you just get beaten.
Once again safe journey home. Well played Esher.

What great after match social. This is what makes the National Leage great.
Good luck Rotherham for the season.

Great game at Clifton Lane today,
I am biased but Roth we're brilliant, our power has transferred well from Nat2N and our backs looked great. We have managed to increase our pace in this area with some great new signings.
Rosslyn Park were very good and caught us out with some quick decision making. We will certainly need to adjust to the pace at Nat 1 which will come with time.
No easy games in this league so I am looking forward to a very tricky and competitive season.
We have some areas to work on however, on the whole, we can't really ask for more from our first game back at this level. Today was a great advert for National league Rugby. A close match that ebbed and flowed throughout.
Park will be a handful this season.

We were introduced again, three times today, embarrassingly even the MC made a big (sic) thing about me being later than Esher after the debacle on the M60.😡😡
Even more!!! Previously we’ve had lunch together twice and also at the very last game we played at Esher. 😂😂😂Oh well I must need a stronger personality. 😂😂😂
Seriously well played Esher and we hope you have a safe journey home.

Well done the Titans

Thanks Sedge Tiger! It is great to be back and I am looking forward to what will be a very challenging season in NAT 1.
Roth have managed to retain a good number of last years squad and bring in some class new players. A lot of the new names were pretty unknown to me but they have definitely added an edge to our core.
For countless seasons we have had a massive turnover in squad numbers however the last couple of seasons we have managed retain a core squad and start to build a really cohesive and solid team. It feels like the ship has finally started to settle.
Nat 1 is a long, tough season consisting of back to back high quality teams, so there is a long way to go for the mighty Roth, but today showed we can compete and in particular, will be very difficult to beat at home.
On a personal note me and my Dad's favourite away day has been Park Lane for many years so we are very excited to make the journey across the pennines this season and watch the mighty Roth face off with the fearsome Sedgley Park Tigers and re-ignite the old rivalry!
Good luck to everyone for the rest of the season.

It’s always a massive pleasure to play the ‘Mighty Roth’ it’s a privilege! No a honour. You are a massive inspiration to all aspirational clubs. A beacon for the game. People forget.
There were two huge clubs in the North in those formative years of ‘league’ rugby. For me the powerhouse will always be Orrell (yes and I am biased😂😂) and Rotherham. We all know the outcome sadly.
Welcome back the very ‘mighty’ Roth

Brought a tear to the eye that one Sedge.
Wonderful memories.
Went to Orrell several times. First time we went I remember we lost. Oddly I vividly remember we were scheduled to play them at Clifton Lane on the weekend that Princess Diana died. My memory eludes me whether the game was actually played the day after or the week after. It was the season after Orrells relegation from the Prem. What I do remember is Roth getting absolutely bossed in the scrum an losing 29-14. One name that particularly stands out was a prop called Jason Cundick who gave us a torrid time. Had some really tough attritional games with them.
Thank you again for your wonderful comments. We are very privileged to have been part of our wonderful club. The bond the club shares with the supporters is phenomenal. Look forward to playing your lads again and trying to get revenge for the season before last. I think that was the first time you ever won at Clifton Lane ?

I hope I can say, without rancour - it was a long time ago - that there were a couple of northern clubs who (shall we say) 'anticipated' the ending of the amateur regulations.
There was a big push for league rugby, probably strongest in the north where we competing with RL, and in 1985 a trial league was started in the North West only. Most of the 'senior' clubs declined to enter. They had everything to lose, and nothing to gain by playing the likes of Sedgley Park.
Those clubs included Orrell, who had made their mark a few years earlier through the National Cup. A memorable win over Harlequins (who said they had been beaten by a motorway layby) had put them up with the likes of Fylde and Hoppers, and they changed from being supporters of league rugby to being opposed to it.
The new league structure was a success over its two years, enjoyed by the clubs in it, and in 1987 the whole thing went National, under the Courage sponsorship. We have had our ups and downs at Sedge, though more ups, as we moved from level 8 to level 7 initially. We stuck there until the ending of the amateur regulations, then legitimately and excitingly went to level 2, at our peak.
Doncaster would be another northern club with a similar history. Rotherham's starting point was, I think, a little higher. Sedgley had played them, historically. I actually played one of my last ever games there, circa 1982, when I turned out at Clifton Lane for Sedge 3s because we were a man short. I was on the bus to support the 1st XV, but I had my kit handy because I had refereed a school match Saturday morning! When the Courage Leagues started, the clubs were separated by the NE / NW divide anyway.

Orrell were a brilliant side, what a great shame they are not still with us. The same goes for Wakefield. I'm glad Roth have given other teams the ambition to push for the higher tiers of English Rugby.
Barring the Prem which in its current state is a practically financial death wish for aspirational lower league teams, the national leagues / Champ are a great open competition.
In recent years the likes of Caldy, Cambridge, Ampthil, Chinnor have gone on gain to promotion and changed the layout of the Champ. It is very exciting and bloody good rugby with bloody good clubs.
