As there are only two teams left I have started a poll but allow replies so that you can predict a score or winning margin.

I predict a narrow Jersey win by 4 points even though at home Ealing must be odds on. I've booked flights and hope those nice people at Ealing decide on a 2pm or 2.30pm kick off so that I can get back to LHR for the return.

At home, with slightly better selection than on the island, I am taking Ealing by 7.

This Jersey team are totally blowing me away at the moment and I think that they are so up for this that they are capable of beating Ealing on a desert. However, Ealing must be hurting and will be looking to make a point and secure some silverware this season.
Jersey by 1 or 100, I don’t care, but Jersey to win!!

You'd hope so, it is being discussed... & would probably be shown in clubhouse if the discussions are fruitful

Pity that it appears that the final quarter will probably overlap with the start of the first Premiership semi-final. Yet another event in a brewery that the RFU couldn’t organise.

That is the key problem of having them on the same day, when the timing of the Premiership semi was agreed in advance, and the Championship final is decided by airline timetables.

Of course, a little pre-planning would have known what the options for Jersey were.

But we do not need to worry for next season, as we do not have a Championship cup.

That's the semi-final involving the Cheats so isn't worth bothering with.

Quite tricky to pre-plan when, prior to Friday evening, there were 8 different permutations covering the 2 teams in the final and the location at which it would be played. And only 3 working days (or 2 in Jersey thanks to Liberation Day) before the visiting team would be setting off. As I've mentioned before, back-to-back rounds of a KO competition are a 'king nightmare!

Think you howayed the wrong people CC; it's very tricky for a visiting team to set up a decent stream if the host club & organising body decline to do so...

Although the Reds are suffering a few end of season injuries, this is still a very strong side and I think that the game will be won/lost for either side out wide tomorrow.
Really sorry to see those who are leaving go, but we can only wish them well. All smashing lads who have played their part in an incredible season. A special shout out to TJ Harris. He has been superb over the 4 seasons that he has spent with us and hopefully he can leave with 2 winners medals hanging around his neck. You will get a few beers bought for you next season when you visit with your new club.

I accept the rebuke mate. I'm one of the lucky few who managed to get flights so if BA do their stuff tomorrow I'll be there but its still a huge pity it couldn't be streamed for the rest of the supporters. The game will no doubt be televised anyway for disciplinary purposes and shown on the big screens in the bar at Ealing so its surprising that a live stream option couldn't be set up. Pirates managed it for the Semi-final in Penzance last week so it strikes me that if the will is there it can happen.

Ealing team news

Pretty strong team, I might have went Digby 8 and Uzokwe 7, or started Shingler, but I am fine with this. I think a few leavers are in the squad who otherwise might not be.

Both squads are missing a few key players mate but I'm sure the lads selected will give their best. From the games I've seen Ealing have had the outstanding squad this season but been just below par in a couple of key matches whereas Jersey have probably massively exceeded expectations and carried their luck when necessary. At home Ealing should win tomorrow but if BA do their stuff tomorrow morning I hope to see both teams leave nothing behind and the best team on the day prevail. Either team would be a breath of fresh air in the premiership but if they cant see it I'm just as happy to look forward to seeing old friends in the Championship. Howay Jersey give it your best lads.

Good luck to both teams.  Make the game a great advert for Championship rugby.  My heart says a Jersey win by 6 points but it's a tough ask on plastic.  Both teams enjoy your very well deserved break after a tough, competitive season.

Ealing scrum destroyed so far. That is keeping Jersey in the game.

Ealing 7 - Jesey 5 - After winning a penalty, Jersey 12 weaves through Ealing defense to score from the 10m line. Ealing has to strengthen in the scrum or this will get ugly. Jersey misses easy kick.

A truly exceptional game today, the best vs the best. Jersey were outstanding for 60 mins and the game hinged on the try/no-try given by the linesman. From my vantage point in front of the bar it was 50/50. The game seemed to open up for Ealing after that point and Jersery scored a couple of late tries to make it a tense finish but what a finale to the season. Shame it wasn’t streamed for those who couldn’t be here. I’m hopeful that the new Prem/Champ cup will ignite interest, especially for the neutral. Well played all, enjoy the well deserved break. #UpTheChamp

Fully agree mate a cracking match with genuine quality and a real contest. The Championship has moved up a gear this season and with several other clubs upping their game the signs are very positive going forward. Today's match would have made a great Championship playoff final first leg between the top two teams. Imagine the supporters interest in seeing a second leg at St Peter if promotion hung on it. The RFU would probably stream that one.

A few postscripts:
  • Thanks to everyone at Ealing for the hospitality and banter. The quality has got better every year and the supporters are growing in numbers and in passion. The lad with the huge drum reminded me of the old South Stand at Leeds and should definitely get a free season ticket for his efforts.
  • I hope the young flyhalf recovers from his injury - he looks a real asset for the future and using LD to take the pressure off his kicking is a masterstoke.
  • Great sign off by TJ Harris with a try in his last game for Jersey - could one of the clubs post it on the highlights please.
  • Brilliant match reaction from Ben Ward - a real Ealing rugby man to his core and a credit to the Championship - in any other season your squad would have won everything mate.
  • It remarkably took me less than an hour to travel by foot and public transport to LHR T5 - there cant be an eeasier ground to visit from Jersey.

A great game & have to echo the regret from many that it was unavailable to watch. I realise there was an overlap with 1st 15 mins of Prem SF, but with little other rugby being played except the County Champs I’m sure there’d have been an audience…

You could look at the scoreboard & say ET won it by 5 conversions (inc some very well-struck efforts) to 3 (with 1 of the misses a 79th-min rushed drop-kick)… but that would deny the nature of a game in which Ealing dominated territory & possession. But for some errors & the quality of the Reds’ defence they would have won by more, in the same way that the Reds could/should have achieved a bigger score line than 19-13 in the Champ decider 3 weeks earlier. But in both cases it was all about the win & most seemed to feel both winning teams deserved it on the day…

It was excellent to share some of the banter with you and meet in person finally CC. A few final thoughts from me as well as the season comes to an end:

* Vallis Way is one of the easiest grounds to access in Rugby in terms of public transport thanks to its location adjacent to a rail station, walking distance from the Elizabeth line, and frequent bus links from several transport hubs. I hope that the RFU keeps this in mind when reviewing the ground before denying us promotion opportunities again next year.

* It was an entertaining contest yesterday, with great visiting fans, and I was extremely happy to have another weekend of rugby to watch. Although the final received no promotion or support from the RFU, was not televised, required a flight for the visitors, and there was only one week's notice, the crowd was still 1200+. Not an amazing crowd, but there was a high proportion of 'new' fans yesterday who hadn't been to a first team game before, many of which have their kids in the mini's, so the cup did at least some good.

* Keeping in mind what I just said, I don't think that anyone will miss this competition when it is gone. This season it happened to serve a bit of a purpose by providing the rubber between Ealing and Jersey, but we really do need to see some variety.

* Less than 4 months to go until the Premiership Cup kicks off on 8th September!
