Rugby Australia makes surprise offer to host Lions series against South Africa

The bombastic Stephen Jones of the Sunday Times was proclaiming this as a 'global exclusive' for his paper on Twitter yesterday PM. And the Rugby Paper has it too. One of those inclusive exclusives...

and muddies the waters further for the Lions, which now has at least half a dozen options: SA with fans, SA without, UK/Ire with fans, UK/Ire without, Australia, postpone to 2022, postpone to 2025 etc etc

Article on Internet stated Australia would get costs with Sth Africa and Lions splitting the profit - crowds currently allowed although reduced capacity.

The two problems I could see would be

the timings bearing in mind the need to quarantine and the proximity of the schedule to the end of season

Warm-up games v Australian teams possibly or just the 3 match test series?

But obviously another option.
