Pirates will be very grateful for the beak this weekend with storm Ciaran blasting in tonight and tomorrow morning and the his slightly weaker brother turning up on Saturday. Jersey and Pirate land are about to get battered, so this saves any postponements/rearranged fixtures…. Every cloud and all that! ------------- Tackle Low!!!!! |

Caldy 5-1 London Scottish. I am giving this to Caldy but I have no feel for how strong a side LS are this season. Ealing 5-0 Cambridge. Ealing to win big. Ampthill 4-1 Coventry. I just have a feeling..... Doncaster 5-2 Nottingham. Two cracking sides. Possibly the game of the day. Bedford 5-2 Hartpury. Please believe me, Ealing fans by and large are just as bored by this as anyone else. I want to see a second tier with proper funding so that we see competitive matches on a regular basis.

Nottingham scored two very good chip through tries early doors catching Donny out. After which it was Donny who started to dominate possession and territory for the next 60 minutes. Our set piece was a lot stronger and in the conditions that was what was going to count. I think there will be a number of teams in the league who will struggle to contain the Nottingham backs where the packs are more evenly matched. ------------- Onward and Upwards C'mon Donny! |

It was not all Ealing, Cambridge blew at least three clear chances to score tries. We were never going to win, had we been a bit more precise, we might have got a bonus point. Although it does not matter this year, next year we cannot afford to let those odd points slip away. I would be careful what you wish for, I suspect it f there is a Prem 2, it will be a franchise league with the RFU taking bids for entry - with no guarantee Ealing's bid would be successful. ------------- Sweeney Delenda Est |

First serious LS attack and the LS loose head crashes into the referee who goes down like Bambi's mother, falling on to the ground Caldy's side of the ruck just as their forwards were furiously counter rucking......the match official took a bit of a shoeing being on the wrong side and all that .....took 30 seconds or so for the battered official to be able to blow his whistle and escape further punishment. Mike Hudson too dazed and wobbly to continue even after a 15 minute break for running repairs The incident brought a sleepy London Scottish who were 14 points down, out of their slumber and they scored two good tries within two minutes of the eventual restart. A competitive game with Caldy the tactically smarter playing the conditions better than an industrious and skilful London Scottish side who in reality played too much rugby. Some thunderous hits by Caldy both in attack and defence and in the end the strength of their pack and the nous of their half backs were too much for a game London Scottish side. I spoke to Mike Hudson after the game, even at that point he wasn't fully recovered having banged his head hard into the pitch..........The irony was he had just previously pinged the Scottish loose head at a scrum.......there is no doubt that the LS prop had more than adequately shown his displeasure  To be fair Mike Hudson was having a good game before he was pummelled senseless..... ------------- ''The future isn't what it used to be'' |

Gerg, please accept my apologies on behalf of all the teams in the Championship for not having a mega wealthy benefactor which results in one sided games. I’m not sure “funding” would make any difference. I would suggest though, to save you from “having to share the same space as us peasants that you spend some of that cash on sorting your ground out so you can play with the big boys

All jokes aside, will the LS Loose Head be in trouble for this? I seem to remember retrospective reds being given for reckless contact with referees, even if they are in the wrong position and it was unintentional. I fear that LS may have not heard the last of this, especially if the ref was knocked nearly unconscious as described by Big Eddie...poor Sir!! ------------- Tackle Low!!!!! |

Nottingham also fell foul of the Ref 16 penalties to Donny and only 4 for Nottingham . Lots of offsides from Nottm who may have been too eager . . Dreadful conditions and the Ref sort of spoilt the game. Don't think the end result was in any doubt. Set piece for Nottingham in the first half held up pretty well given the shortage of props.

HT Blues (3 tries) 22-12 (2 tries) Hartpury Hartpury 12 nil up before Blues woke up in the 2nd 20 mins. Although a couple of fortunate bounce of the ball tries for Blues. Blues go down the slope 2nd half.

So many questions. Did the ref spoil the game due to him penalising Nottingham for being offside? Did Nottingham fall "foul of the Ref" due to their own ill-discipline? Did Doncaster think the game was spoilt? Or was it all the poor old ref's fault?

Nope - as Stuart says the game was not in doubt, Doncaster were going to win. The Ref didn’t spoil the game, he just caught Nottingham out in their attempts to be fast up on defence. The conditions led to an upfront competition and we were a lot stronger so made the gains there. Sir was ok on the day all considered ------------- Onward and Upwards C'mon Donny! |
