All too predictable, not sure why he thought it would end any different.

I am sat here watching the Keeler affair which might carry some truths about the complications of real politics.

However, the same thing happens at Twickenham where politics are as dirty

Martyn was a fool to take the job but I believe he was set up for the time being to keep the job rolling. I have no sympathy for Martyn. In my mind the man who set him up will probably replace him as DoR and will move back to Yorkshire from Twickenham.

The competitions review will be made public soon and everyone knows this is will be a farce without clubs having their say.

The premiership will be ring fenced with Falcons returning  and Leicester remaining up there. The Championship will be semi ring fenced with Leeds remaining in the Championship under their new DoR.

Sort yourselves out from Level 3 and below

If, owing to a rule change, they escape relegation, it will bring the system into even further disrepute. If they can’t hack it on the pitch then they shouldn’t be there.
Sacking the manager is the usual trick employed by soccer clubs. Can’t see it working here.

YES......They know there will be a change . Wait and see how corrupt and sinister the whole set up is. There are certain clubs sacrificing this whole season knowing there will be no relegation and building a financial war chest for next season.

The acquisition of top quality, key players will be even more critical for the 20/21 season.

There was also a plan to find another sponsor.
But that would require them to find a Yorkshireman who was willing to part with their money for nothing.

I'm delighted to say that I'm free. I have no experience of coaching, stopped playing 30 years ago and live 150 miles away.

However, I love rugby and am told that chips are served with gravy AND peas in this part of the country. What more could a chap want?

My good friend Camquin will join me occasionally although I haven't asked him yet.

Here's to a great 2020 end of the season with victories a plenty for Leeds.

Quick question, when did the 25 become 22 yards?

Happy New Years chaps and I truly hope all the best to Leeds, there have been put into an unenviable position by the RFU and their managers so give a thought to the players who have mortgages etc - and yes, the 10 level drop would have been best but, as the saying goes, we are where we are and there will be an aspiring coach needing some time on his /her CV.

Sorry No.7 I must be missing something. Why would clubs be building a war chest to spend on top quality players for the 20/21 season when the top 2 flights are likely to be ring fenced.
I would argue that they are more likely to offload their top player salary earners to get some money behind themselves for when the leagues become meaningful again in the next 10 years or so.
In the meantime, the supporters of the top 24 teams will be paying to watch, mainly, meaningless games with the top players concentrated around the top 3 or 4 clubs as everyone takes the opportunity to get back into the black until the time comes to splash it all out again.
The Championship will become a graveyard and I can't see many turning up for games unless entry prices are slashed significantly.

Ring fencing for the Premiership is coming, there may be one or two opportunities to get the Premiership side of the fence but the system will be manipulated to suit. Certain clubs are not invited and will be by hook or crook left on the other side of the fence.

Next season could be the last season where it is even possible.

That last comment is telling; Sir Ian McGeechan instigated a controversial name change from Leeds Carnegie to Yorkshire Carnegie in 2014, a decision that both upset many and clearly did not lead to any long-term good for the troubled club.
It seems Davies – who will also join the board of directors as well as running the rugby operation – wants to return to the club’s Leeds roots and it would be no surprise if a name change eventually followed if they can survive the threat of demotion.

I would have thought a name change is the least of their worries right now, although completely understand why it would be part of a longer-term strategic review.  The only question is whether they have even a mid-term future, never mind long-term.

Wonder how many of the Namibian world cup squad will end up suddenly living near Headingley? Not sure where else PD will get players from. Returning to the roots would be a good idea-reinstate Roundhay and Headingley-two proper rugby clubs.

How about Richmond Yorkshire -there is one and would seem appropriate. Bit like Saracens finally apologising and admitting they will be over the salary cap by the end of this season if they do not get rid of some players.

I quite like 'Roundhead Phoenix' as a name. It won't be for long, so it doesn't matter.

The poll was run by a supporter as a bit of fun.  The change back to Leeds Tykes seems nailed on, subject to the usual RFU approval.

I'm not sure anyone expects Phil Davies to do much more with the squad we have than Martyn Wood was able to but his arrival has certainly perked up some of the long-time supporters (me included) who haven't bothered much this season.  The suggestion that there could be a future after relegation goes against what I had always assumed, but can't be taken as certain given the way our investors have comported themselves lately.

To some extent.
If the powers that be have any sense they will know that those games are lost.
So they can give him a month, so he can plan a four week training scheme to build to Nottingham at home.

Moreover - surely Davies will have come in with the assurance of new personnel to support his mission?
As you say Camquin, they will be targetting matches now. Home games with a few more Tykes fans could well yield the odd win and - without stating the obvious - they only need to do better than the next worse side to stay up.
Last game of the season - Bedford away - could be interesting..

Posted By: Runitback
Date Posted: 08 Jan 2020 at 20:28
Leeds have not really been competitive in any game so far this season, so it is a big ask for Phil Davies to magic a win or more importantly 4 or 5 to overhaul Bedford. Unless of course a host of new faces appear . . even then I think survival in the league is unlikely.

Will this move bring the crowds flooding into Headingly . . . very very unlikely, even in their heyday crowds were pretty miserable.

But I presume Mr Davies would not have accepted the job with assurances about future funding and player recruitment?

Looking at the big picture, with 15 games to play, Tykes need to secure 4 more points, before game 22 , than Bedford (as it stands ) to set up a winner takes all ( or loses all ..) final game at Goldington Road in May.
Is this possible?

They should have been dealt with properly in the first place by the Union, What has been allowed to happen by them is an injustice The demise of Hull Ionians a legacy of Leedshires position and what did they then do but discard the man they stole to help them. Its a very very sad state of affairs .

I actually wonder of the Tyrells Women's Prem set up was a dress rehersal

There the clubs had to apply to have a place, the winners were chosen (by some secret means) and in return for also promising to run a Centre of Excellence as part of the player pathway they got the promise of no relegation for 3 yrs. That period is now ending, the 10 teams will be ranked depending on various measures including on pitch performance. The top 6 will be safe the next 4 will be pitched against any teams wanting to join and the best 4 of the combined group of teams offered the places for the next period

Problem is clubs like Leeds shire are allowed to get away with deeds that go unpunished its totally wrong. it sends the wrong message out and brings the game into disrepute. It also makes a mockery of the Championship in this case when clearly they should have been demoted certainly One maybe two Leagues ! the blame lays in both camps Leedshire mismanagement The RFU no Clue at ALL ! Conclusion game in disrepute some  Championship games a joke.

I quite agree - teams that go bust should be relegated (at least 1 or 2 levels), it is far to easy to liquidate, pay creditors a pittance and continue at the level they are at with either no or little points deduction.

Plymouth comes to mind as another recent example.

Compare this with the punishment meted out to yet he likes of London Welsh and Richmond in the past and one wonders wether it is a case of 'who you know' that determines punishment.

It's all news, isn't it? Much more interesting when things are going wrong. I think if they can borrow the entire Saracens first team they may escape. Their results so far are worse than any team I've seen in the Championship during the past few years. Their antics have wrecked Hull Ionians too. They've had similar cricket scores against. 86-7 on Saturday and fifty something the week before.

Excuse my naivety, but could the leniency shown to Leeds be as much to do with rugby in the North as anything else? Relegation is the only moral position to take, but when did morality worry RFU. Very surprised, if not disappointed / embarrassed for the game, to see they have some cash in the cupboard for some 3 month contracts.

Couldn't a new league be set up containing just two clubs - Yorkshire Carnegie (or whatever they are calling themselves) and Saracens? They could play each other every single week and leave the Premiership and Championship free of their pollution.

Posted By: Runitback

Great idea WEvans, but it would need to be "ringfenced"!!!!

Ps For Phil Davies to make the comments about bringing 4 or 5 players in he is obviously oblivious to full nature of what happened at Leeds last year!!

On a serious note even with 4 or 5 Saracens or whoever, I dont see them avoiding relegation. Then hopefully the RFU will recognise there are bigger and better clubs in Yorkshire.

Don't worry about The Blues, we'll be fine. Those who saw the game against London Scottish will know that. So logically, although we agree that they should not be in the division, every side needs to follow Pirates example 50 0. I find the idea of bringing in more players as money is available absolutely awful. So players who have agreed to play for them will end up not playing, Disgraceful.

Do you think Carnegie will survive the drop? Nobody is going to play for free and we have seen what happens to those who don't pay. B&S and South Leicester both falling by the wayside this season. Unless the get another benefactor/RFU bail out I'm not sure there will be a team next season even with a RFU shuffle.

Apologies. I'd got Peterborough Lions on my mind, LL are doing particularly well in N2S.

Watch the Leeds vs Nottingham game on Friday.

Was shocked!  Even though Nottingham scored 60 points they butchered at least another 20-25 easily.  On this performance, even with the new Welsh Coaching set up reacquainted would not beat a level 5/6 side imho.

Honestly couldnt see anyway forward even with the promised Namibians arriving this week as was the talk.

It seems they are aiming a lot lower than last year's cavalry (or should I say cheaper)

The trouble is that the lesser nations at the World Cup aren't actually as good as a mid-table Championship club, and many of the players individually are only National One standard.  So (with all due respect) even if they are able to parachute a few Namibians in, they're not necessarily going to be good enough to lift them out of the mire this time.

They will get a shock in Nat 1 some very very good fit organised sides lots of trips to London. They should talk to Roth they will put them in picture. They posted crowd of 352 Fri thats a disaster. I think the end is near. They should have moved out of Headingley years ago they have no Home thats NOT good.

Yes the quality in N1 is high. They make more mistakes than in the Championship but not many. Having said that, England’s first half yesterday contained more than the N1 match I watched the day before.

The whole saga is a sad reflection on the administration of rugby.

There was a crowd of 273 at Old Deer Park on the weekend, to see London Welsh beat Datchworth 69-0 in the heady heights of London 2 North West.

TBF, I think the administration of the game as a whole is ok. It’s just the administration of the professional game that’s shambolic. The combination of both clubs and “governing” bodies that struggle to come to terms with full-time professionalism is a recipe for disaster.

627 at the Rock for Rosslyn Park v Cambidge.

I do not think the travel will be the problem for Carnegie - after all Plymouth is nearer than Penzance and they do not need to go to Jersey.

However, losing another £600k from the budget could well be.

Unless Rhinos let them play and train at Headingley for nothing - or they have found another mug - I cannot see where they playing budget comes from.

Of course had the Championship been expanded to 16 this season, Old Elthamians would have gone up - and they are also looking at an empty cupboard after the death of their benefactor.

The 600k has been spent on maintaining a team well below Championship standard with the humiliating statistic of zero wins and one point. It was all so predictable. They'd have been better off being demoted and trying to rebuild.
Who knows whether it will continue, but the financially sound Richmond has done just that. The demotion may well have been a blessing in disguise, giving them a chance to absorb a large number of new players and become a formidable unit. Crowds have increased and morale is high.

Looks like Park v Richmond on Fri March 6th will be huge. Suggest will be biggest London crowd outside of Prem this season. The winner will probably get to play Saracens next season ........

Quite a task awaits the Carnegie reinforcements, wherever they are from. How many of their last 12 games would they need to win? Perhaps half?

And hopefully their first win won’t occur next Sunday when they entertain the mighty Ampthill, especially as my youngest daughter and myself will be attending and so swelling the attendance to a near record.
