I'm not sure which one of you it was that I met at the game today, but it was good to see a fellow rolling-mauler at Hare Lane today.
As for the result, it really was a bad day at the office for Scunny. Chester controlled the running apart from a 6-8 minute spell in the second half where the visitors went through some good phase play. I thought the hooker and full back had particularly good games, but Chester were too strong for them to yield any more than two tries. I don't think I'll see that sort of scoreline again any time soon. Good luck for the rest of the season, Scunny. I'm sure it won't be too long until we see you in N2N again.

its been a tough season for scunny one way or another just like wharfedale you are a great community club hope you regroup and come straight back up anyway enjoy the rest of the season and you could start by winning at caldy

Feel for Scunny. Good well run club. Sure they will re group next season. Does this show the step up in playing standards and therfore player payments between the leagues? Given Scunny's travails and the state Bham and SLeicester came down this season you need to be a very well run club with good infra structure and funding to make a go of either North or South 2.

Sounds like it all comes down to player remuneration? I know nothing about SKiwifruithorpe other than the fact that it is pretty isolated, was a steel town and Martin Simpson ( top notch guitarist) grew up there. By all accounts the rugby team has done well to get up to N2. Chester are well established in an area where there are a number of good N2N sides and a large pool of players many of whom are paid. The question is should paying players be outlawed at this level? I know it has been debated before but the issue isn't going away. |

Why outlawed? Nearly all of the clubs are solvent, own or part own their grounds, have large memberships, various adult teams, numerous junior and mini sides. Can't say that of many Prem or Champ sides, and a few in Nat1.

FP, I had to get on my toes after the game otherwise I'd have come back to the clubhouse for a chat. Scunny have been off the pace all season, which was a surprise TBH because I thought they'd kick on this season after finishing top last year. Has the step up been harder than last time or have you just suffered from injuries/player retention and recruitment. I'll echo the sentiments Bin Licker, I made the trip over on a rainy first day of the season last time you came up and thought the club well run and friendly. I hope things go well for you next season, it would be a real shame for another team to go the way of South Leicester.

no way will Scunny go the way of SL .It's a nice club with good facilities for it's level .

Totally agree. The club has been beset by tragedy this season and it is completely clear why the stuffing has been knocked out of them. They are very good people who care. I am 100% sure they will rebuild with even more endeavour ------------- ''The future isn't what it used to be'' |

Bigmal Scunny is still currently a steel town. All the years I have been a member of the club we have had a large base of players from the steelworks. Hi guys, you are both absolutely right there is no way will we go the way of SL or Bees, or teams in the mire higher up the leagues. We are what we are and as the lads won the league they deserved to go up. We have had a few things gone wrong this season but this is no reflection on any of the players or coaching staff. We won't, as some, go down the road and offer money to a championship club to live the dream, as this is a recipe for disaster as some have found to their demise. We will continue to play at whatever level, every week we will Saturday watch rugby at Heslam Park and support the team who is on the pitch. After which we will retire to our corner and discuss with the opposition officials how we would have done it. We will then go our merry way until Thursday when we organise our next fixture home or away and so on and so forth. Look forward to seeing those who are there on Saturday and enjoy the craic with all. FP ------------- "Animo concipere non possum quo palto hoc pervease exeat." |
