The blackguards of English rugby are up to it again - the Barbarians fiasco has led to 8 Saracens players getting banned.
Joe Kpoku, Manu Vunipola - 3 weeks suspension for breaking covid protocol, suspended subject to community service plus 2 week suspension to be served immediately for lying to investigators.
Callum Clark, Sean Maitland, Tim Swinson - 4 week suspension, 3 weeks of which is suspended subject to community service plus 2 week suspension to be served immediately for lying.
Alex Lewington, Juan Pablo Socino, Jackson Wray - 5 week suspension, 3 weeks of which is suspended subject to community service, plus 2 week suspension to be served immediately for lying.
So here we are chaps - they'll be down to only 500 or so England caps worth of players to choose from for the first few games of the season. This is our chance to take them down. I mean, with Manu Vunipola out, who can they turn to? Just that Owen Farrell chap who was rubbish off the tee last weekend.

It's Saracens players who have been banned not the club.

What's 'Wow' about that? Just clarifying that 'Saracens banned' is a misleading headline.

The potentially misleading headline is clarified pretty smartly, I don't see Gerg's 'offence' as being quite as serious as those he's sharing the news about. And there's also some pretty obvious tongue-in-cheek elements to what he's posted...

That is how I read it too, Islander, very much tongue in cheek. I think I would rather face them later on in the season when all their international players are committed to other competitions than early doors still.

Do we know when they serve the suspensions? Manu at least presumably was i contention for England selection - so does missing those matches count? The others presumably only start when Saracens play competitive matches.

A good question. The RFU judgement just said "immediately." I would note that Manu is the young fly half cousin to Mako and Billy, so not sure he is on Eddie's immediate radar.
I indeed was being tongue-in-cheek with my original post. I just get a bit frustrated at times when so many conversations on here devolve into arguments over facts.

Manu not in the same class as Simons and Smith.

the 6N starts on 6 Feb - it remains to be seen how much Championship rugby - if any - will be played before then...

From what I read they will serve their sentances through December - so effectively won't miss any competitive games.
If that is indeed correct, it isn't much of a punishment.

5 Saracens players broke lock-down rules back in May when they were out in St. Albans. The club reminded the squad back then of their responsibilities to themselves and the community.

You have to laugh at the hypocrisy of the Cheats reminding their players of their responsibilities don't you?

Where did you read this 999? I've never heard of players serving suspensions during the off-season. Maybe it's a different arrangement if it's a non-playing offence? Sarries have a match this Saturday, v Tigers XV, I suppose that might count...

Didn't Marler serve his suspension for 'fondlegate' during the first month of lockdown?

On the Internet in the article that stated the length of the suspensions. Also don't forget it is not off-season at the highest level.

Looking at regulation 19, the player's club is meant to provide the disciplinary panel a list of forthcoming meaningful matches and the suspension should list the specific start and end dates of the suspension based on thatinformation.
obviously in this case Championship clubs cannot provide that.
However, i do not believe that you can serve a suspension in the off season and I do nto believe pre season games count - though you can be suspended for action in such games.
But we need to see the official judgement to be sure.

As MWJ said Marler is an example of doing just that.

Thanks KHL. BBC link below. It doesn't make clear the date-span for the period of the bans, which R999 claims to have seen on the internet, but lazily/grumpily/unhelpfully (delete as applicable) declined to share...

As you are obviously too lazy to look for it, don't expect me to waste my time trying to find it again. I will give you a starter - it was on the BBC website. Additionally I am not that worried.
Even if I found it I wouldn't know how to give you a link.

Saracens players
Their sanction will start when the Championship season begins in 2021. Sean Maitland has missed one game for Scotland as a result of this incident and that game will count towards his sanction.
