Well the teams are having a well-earned rest next week. These are the fixtures they are going to be coming back to in a couple of weeks’ time:

Saturday 10th April:
Cornish Pirates v Ealing - 1.30pm
Jersey v Doncaster - 2.30pm (being played at Castle Park)
Hartpury RFC v Nottingham - 4.30pm

Sunday 11th April:
Saracens v Bedford - 1pm
Coventry v Ampthill - 2.30pm

Bye: Richmond

Wouldn’t normally create this thread but lockdown boredom is alive and well!.

Saturday 10th April:
Cornish Pirates v Ealing: 1 - 5 - Ealing are a very different outfit this year, both in personnel and in preparation, to the one that got thumped at the Mennaye in the first game of the season last year. I don't think that this will be another 50 pointer, but I still think that they win with the BP.
Jersey v Doncaster: 0 - 5 - Doncaster on form, and Jersey struggling, even after gutting out a win. You should score boatloads against 12 men.
Hartpury RFC v Nottingham: 4 -1 - Hartpury didn't look very good today, and Nottingham looked bad when I saw them play. Someone has to win though.

Sunday 11th April:
Saracens v Bedford: 5 - 0 - If this were being played at Goldington Road, I'd give Bedford the TBP, but it isn't, and Mark McCall has said in The Daily Mail that he intends to send all of his internationals for the rest of the season.
Coventry v Ampthill: 4 - 1 - Ampthill are better than I expected, but I think Coventry at home is too much for them.

Predictions:
Cornish Pirates 5 1 Ealing - picked CP in every game this season, including against Donny!. One narrow loss against a very good side doesn’t change my view of them. Pirates at home can turn anyone over and I fancy a well rested and motivated side to stop the juggernaut in it’s tracks. It will be Sarries all over again.
Doncaster 5 1 Jersey - really feel for Jersey having so many away games. They won at Bedford but I think Donny are building something potentially exciting and will make it 5 from 5!.
Hartpury 5 0 Nottingham - i think Hartpury at home will win this comfortably. Nottingham seem to be really struggling this season. I hope this is only a blip for them caused by the lack of a pre-season with a settled squad and not something more long-term. Obviously going part-time won’t help.
Saracens 5 0 Bedford - Well looks like Sarries are going to roll out all of the big names for this game. Blues should just treat this game as a cup tie and throw the kitchen sink at them. Go and make yourself heroes lads. Quality should win out but I think Bedford can stay competitive for at least 50 minutes.
Coventry 1 4 Ampthill - this is an interesting one to call. Cov have been a bit up and down so far this
season. Amps have had a rest so will be fresher. I think both of these teams will Finish mid-table but I’ve got a feeling Ampthill could nick this.

Pirates 1-5 Ealing - Ealing on a roll and I actually think they’ll win this comfortably. Pirates to maybe get a try BP
Saracens 5-0 Bedford - Could get ugly
Doncaster 4-0 Jersey - Donny to grind out another win, but think this could be close if Jersey get some of their injured players back
Hartpury 4-1 Nottingham - Still predicting Nottingham bottom and winless
Coventry 4-0 Ampthill - Think cov are underperforming atm, but they’ll be too strong for ampthill

Cornish Pirates 0-5 Ealing. Averaging nearly 60 points a game I think Ealing will score at least 4 tries and keep the Pirates at bay.
Doncaster 4-1 Jersey. Doncaster keep grinding out the wins, but never by much.
Hartpury 5-1 Nottingham. Both teams will be targetting a win for this fixture and I think home advantage will have it.
Saracens 5-0 Bedford. Most likely for the first time this season it will be a full Premiership side versus a mid table Championship side. It will be interesting.
And finally.......
Coventry 1-4 Ampthill. I don't think the A's have won at Barkers Butt but they are pleasingly improving with every game and this is a very good opportunity to start winning on the road. But it will be tough.

The reason I said Barkers Butts is because I'm an idiot. Many apologies.

You'd definitely beat Barkers' Butts.
No doubt in my mind!

It is confusing tbf. 'Coundon Road', the club's ground until 2003 was actually on Barkers' Butts Lane - not Coundon Road. It's not surprising folk get confuddled even now...

Thanks, Kimbo, for making me feel a lot better. To be fair though, I said Barkers Butts because way back in the very early seventies, when I was plying my rugby trade with Bedford Athletic, we used to play them. I am obviously stuck in a time warp.

The Millais jungle telegraph has picked up word that Jersey may soon announce two spectacular new signings ahead of next week's "home" match against Donny which will be played at Castle Park. On the playing side it is understood that Jersey will register the outstanding academy prospect http://wildlife.durrell.org/animals/amphibians/agile-frog/" rel="nofollow - Rana Dalmatina who despite his diminutive size is considered an outstanding lineout prospect particularly on wet pitches. Even more exciting to Jersey's home supporters is the dubious report that Jersey have secured the services of Donny's famous https://www.drfc.co.uk/order-your-match-day-cow-pie/" rel="nofollow - Mage Taurus-Strudel who has set outstanding levels of customer service at Castle Park for many years and is expected to travel back to Jersey on the executive charter next week.

Love it CC

The jumping capabilities of Rana Dalmatina should be a significant boost in the lineout - although I have read that his catch can be unsteady at times and tends to have his tongue stuck out when performing this task, so is often found to need the attention of the medic for blood.

And although I would be at a loss if we were to lose the services of Mage Taurus-Strudel permanently, I would be very happy to hear your reports on that temporary feed into Jersey.

Cornish Pirates v Ealing: 1 - 4 - Ealing caught out last year and the Saracens victory for the Pirates will sharpen the focus for Ealing.

Jersey v Doncaster: 1 - 5 - Doncaster will be hoping no hang over from last week....having seen highlights it could so easily have been a loss.

Hartpury RFC v Nottingham: 5 -0 - Hartpury better of the two lower table teams

Saracens v Bedford: 5 - 0 - Saracens to keep foot down now

Coventry v Ampthill: 4 - 1 - A close game could go either way

Posted By: Pappashanga
Date Posted: 01 Apr 2021 at 12:08
Cocentry 4 Ampthill 1.No idea really
Doncaster 4 Jersey 1. Jersey may surprise with new lineout expert
Hartpury 4 Nottingham 0.On paper that's what is likely
Pirates 1 Ealing 4. May go other way on grass
Saracens 5 Bedford 0. George at 17 stone plus has transformed the Saracens scrum and Bedford will be crushed by the efficient Saracens box kicking machine. Lineouts still dodgy though.

I'd never complain about the pitch at Castle Park mate - best in the league but if the Donny forwards would be good enough to insert a few pounds of lead in their boots in the second half to emulate playing up the slope at St Peter I would be most grateful. Hoping to send some Royal gifts from St Ouen for the multitude of Jersey alumni up there and a bottle of blackcurrant rum for Bodes but gutted I can't take them myself. I've got a couple of bottles of Timothy Taylors Yorkshire beer ready to watch online but I'd trade them for a bovril & a wedge of pie if I could blag a seat on the charter and be there.

I will have a word regarding the lead in the boots, not sure how Bodes will take it, but perhaps after he has sampled your blackcurrant rum he will be slightly more amenable LOL

I do feel your pain, and I would sacrifice my Gin collection to be sat in those stands this weekend. However, I will have to settle for the virtual experience of the streaming opportunity.

My order already in mate. Brilliant service from Janet (aka the magician) and Ashley for making it possible and if it survives the predatory efforts of the Jersey forwards on the executive charter I hope to be enjoying it in St Ouen by about 9pm tomorrow night.

Ealing have made life harder as they are only showing the team on a video this week so far and they are not in numerical order. Anyhow, here is the team. No big changes or surprises except to say that they are starting with their best set of forwards and not the second string that got subbed after 35 minutes against Hartpury. I hope they're already on the bus to avoid any late arrivals like a couple of years back...

1. Will Davis 2. Alun Walker, 3. Elliot Millar-Mills (on his 50th appearance), 4. Bobby De Wee, 5. James Cannon, 6. Kieran Murphy, 7. Simon Uzokwe, 8. Rayn Smid (c), 9. Craig Hampson, 10. Craig Willis, 11. JCR, 12. Pat Howard, 13. Max Bodilly, 14. Angus Kernohan, 15. David Johnston

On the Bench: 16. Sean Malton, 17. Kyle Whyte, 18. Lewis Thiede, 19. Simon Linsell, 20. Harry Casson, 21. Guy Thompson, 22. Jordan Burns, 23. Luke Daniels

Personally, it's a load of bunkum, Home shirts, Away shirts.....  Teams should just have a change shirt if the club colours clash.

Ealing 7 (1T) - Pirates 0 - 5' A poor box kick lead to 3 penalties on the Pirates line, and Ealing scored through a pick and go. Wind with Ealing in the first half. Will need to continue to take advantage.

I wish the Pirates commentators weren’t so bias. They are making it very difficult to watch. Have constantly been criticising the ref for every decision against Pirates and it’s coming across as very unprofessional. I thought the same during the Bedford game, but thought I may be bias as a Bedford fan. Bedford are lucky enough to have Sam Roberts commentating who is one of the best in the business, but even our co-commentators have managed to be knowledgeable and impartial in my view. It’s coming across as more of a “fanzone” style commentary at the moment.

Ealing 12 (2T) - Pirates 3 - HT' - JCR slices across in the corner after a Pirates turnover from a lineout. All set up by an excellent kick from hand into the corner by Hampson. Ealing into the wind in the 2nd Half, suspect that Pirates will have much better field position in the 2nd half.

Ealing 33 (BP) - Pirates 10 (1T) - 73' - Burns snipes over in his absolute trademark style. All he does is come on and score tries. Commentator has gotten the names of Ealing players wrong constantly.

Halftime

Decent contest Knights need to reduce penalty count. Jersey new prop looks good at scrum and ball in hand

Ealing 38 (BP) - Pirates 10 (1T) - FT - First rolling maul try of the game. Not sure who flopped over. Ealing showed how well drilled they were in the second half. I think keeping ball in hand helped.

Ealing played most of the second half without a dedicated fly half as far as I could tell. I think Luke Daniels filled in after Craig Willis went off. Does anyone know if Shingler is injured? If he is, and Willis can't pass his concussion protocol (and I wouldn't want him to be rushed back), then that would be a huge blow for the match against Saracens next week. I'd hate to see us lose because we don't have either of our best 10s out there.

Ealing well deserved the win, over powered Pirates in the second half. Can't see anyone beating them.

Sorry gerg but you'll need more than those two to beat Sarries wth their England players and without this ref. Not that you didn't deserve to win but it was dour rugby.

Massive second half performance and hard fought win. Could only listen on the radio but sounded like Pirates got on the wrong side of Sir at a crucial stage.

Shingler did his hamstring not long after coming on at the end of the Hartbury game so not sure the prognosis. Didn’t realise it was Sarries next up, if Willis was knocked out then there’s no way he will play.

When Luke Daniels joined my Esher Academy at the age of 18 he came as a fly-half. He switched to full-back when he made the Esher 1st XV and then Bristol tried him on the wing. He was stunningly quick fly-half!

The good news is that I got my fixture list wrong - it's Reds next weekend. Not that I don't think we need a fly half, but I'd rather play Reds than Sarries without one...

I was wondering how the third match was going, and as no one was commenting on it looked up the score.

For a moment I was very surprised to see Nottingham comfortably leading Hartpury 16:30.

I'll start watching for scores at 4:30pm

I have to agree that it was dour from both sides but even playing way  under par Ealing Trailfinders scored 6 tries.

No complaints in St Ouen Donny's defence was excellent, they took their chances and deserved the win. Probably Jersey's best performance so far this season - the new scrum half made a huge difference and if they had taken even half the chances they created they could easily have won. Safe trip back lads and if the cow pie could work its way to my place by 9pm that would be brilliant.

Well done Donny, an eventually comfortable and deserved win. I would add that Jersey had several opportunities in first half and needed to get points on the board while the Knights were below their best. Overall was pretty pleased with Jersey performance for 40 mins, but then things changed. The second half was pretty dire for the Reds, lots of pens conceded and handling errors, and Knights in cruise control for the most part. The Reds never really looked like scoring in 2nd half until final 5 mins when there was the chance of a losing BP but again not taken...

Thought the 2 starting debutants Nicol (prop) & Green (s-h) looked good, worried Nicol may have been hurt...
