Predictions:
Ampthill 1 - 4 Jersey
Coventry 5 - 1 Cornish Pirates
Ealing 5 - 0 Richmond
Nottingham 0 - 5 Saracens
Doncaster 4 - 1 Bedford

Ealing and Sarries could run up massive scores this weekend, I fear for Nottingham against a full strength Sarries side, could be a very long afternoon. I think Jersey have got enough about them to pip Ampthill but it will be a one-score game. Coventry should beat Pirates who have had a form dip recently and have also got a long injury list. I think Donny will beat Bedford but I don’t think there’s that much between the two teams. Bedford will keep it close.

Ampthill 5 - 1 Jersey A's boosted by cracking result at Pirates, and at home? 6 tries to 4
Coventry 5 - 1 Cornish Pirates  Expect a tight encounter, but Pirates to struggle on the road
Ealing 5 - 0 Richmond  Backlash from Trailfinders who have to win with bonus points now
Nottingham 0 - 5 Saracens  Could get messy, Notts wont fancy this one bit. Who would.
Doncaster 5 - 1 Bedford  Donny still in the hunt and back them to get a 5-pointer

Ampthill 1-4 Jersey - Both teams had good results at the weekend. Jersey starting to get players back from injury. Could go either way but going with Jersey who I think have a misleading table position.
Coventry 4-1 Pirates - Pirates carrying some injuries and losing momentum after flying start, so going with home advantage
Ealing 5-0 Richmond - Banker and a slaughtering
Nottingham 0-5 Saracens - This is not the week I predict Nottingham to win
Doncaster 5-2 Bedford - Bedford looked good in the last game and I think are capable of winning this. Absolute must 5 points for Doncaster to set up a potential playoff decider against Ealing in their next game. I think they’ll just about manage it with the better pack.

Ampthill 1-4 Jersey - Ampthill massively impressed with their win over the weekend, although the Pirates have been devastated by injury. If this were in St. Peter, then I'd pick Jersey, but in the dell I'll plump for Ampthill.
Coventry 1-4 Pirates - Pirates to come back with fire after a rough previous week.
Ealing 5-0 Richmond - At Vallis way, and with Ealing getting healthier, I expect another 50 pointer.
Nottingham 0-5 Saracens - Cricket scores. I hope no one gets hurt.
Doncaster 5-2 Bedford - Donnie bounced back nicely, and their younger squad seems to be coming along quite nicely. Bedford coming back rested, and I think they'll score some tries, but not enough to win.

Ampthill 2-5 Jersey - Although a 3-3 result long overdue this season
Coventry 2-4 Pirates - Pirates to score loads of pens but Cov get 4 tries.
Ealing 5-0 Richmond - Now a must win and BP for Ealing but Mond will make them work for it
Nottingham 4-1 Saracens - Stop laughing it could happen
Doncaster 5-2 Bedford - The match to watch this week should be an absolute cracker but Donny need the win.

Ampthill 5-2 Jersey. Jersey are a proper Championship side, but so are Ampthill now. I predict a high-scoring and entertaining game which will make me a nervous wreck to watch.
Coventry 1-4 Cornish Pirates. I think the Pirates will have a sting in their tale after last week's defeat.
Ealing 5-0 Richmond. An easy prediction for a big home win.
Nottingham 0-5 Saracens. Another easy prediction but this time for a big away win.
Doncaster 4-1 Bedford. I'm not sure why but I predict a scrappy win for the home side.

I'd tend to agree with those predicting an Ealing rebound.

A couple of people have said that this weekend's game is 'must-win' for Ealing. In fact, as long as they were to beat Donny they'd be able to afford a loss against Richmond or Bedford and still be in top 2...

Ealing are without a doubt the best "Championship" side in this short season. Apart from last week's minor but predictable hiccup, they should continue to rack up the points in their remaining games. They could even finish top above Saracens if they keep getting the high scores.

It then depends on the availability of Saracen players for the play-offs. If they have their full compliment it will be Saracens by a good mile to go back up. But if they are missing their Lions then who knows.

My guess is they will have their full compliment of internationals.

Predictions:
Ampthill 4 - 1 Jersey. Ampthill on a high.
Coventry 4 - 1 Cornish Pirates. Pirates decimated with injuries.
Ealing 5 - 0 Richmond. Ealing too strong
Nottingham 0 - 5 Saracen. Sarries on fire
Doncaster 4 - 1 Bedford. Donny building nicely.

Ampthill           2 - 5     Jersey: Jersey found their mojo

Coventry          4 - 1     Cornish Pirates : The rumours of a Wasps takeover at Cov, like Northampton at Bedford. People could be playing for new contracts if thats true

Doncaster         1 - 5     Bedford: Interesting one, if only for the fact Northampton do not have a game, so lets see how loaded Bedford are

Ealing               5 - 0     Richmond Flat track bullies to run up a big score, they will not field a weaker team as the will remember what happened pre season when they sent the reserves over to play Richmond, Mond will be outclassed sorry to say!

Nottingham       0 - 5     Saracens, This could turn very nasty, Saracens need all 5...

You do know that the players have to be registered for Bedford, so they will still only be picking from the same crop of players....

Looking forward to this game though - always enjoy the Bedford game (more so on a flat even pitch).

You are aware of something called a "loan" which can be expedited  with RFU registrations.
It means that a player can be loaned and signed on loan by a club, not more than 2 levels from the mother club inside a 24 hour period.

You’re absolutely right Scrumtime. Northampton are loaning us Courtney Lawes, Lewis Ludlam, Alex Mitchell and Dan Biggar for this one. Despite the fact it is a completely meaningless game for Bedford, Northampton are happy to risk injuries to some of their key players to ensure we win. Looking forward to the game

Do your homework. Cov have plenty of DR players this season, to cover for players released due to Covid 19. They come from all over the country, Wasps nor being a dominant contributor.

Hopefully Wasps players will have any sting heavily removed?

Bedford should play their own contracted lads rather than hallowed Saints!

Thanks CPK, the drive is 8 miles, so a bit nip and tuck, hope it will be like the last visit, in and out in 5 mins.  Much rather be tucking in to cow pie at CP, followed by a casual walk to the terrace.  Ahh normality Smile

Ah, don't you just love the internet?  Random bloke sitting behind his keyboard 100 miles away knows more about your club than you do.

Everyone on rolling maul has detailed knowledge of the accounts of every other club and knows for certain that they are spending far too much on players - while there club never pays anything and the Fijian centre just happens to have an elderly aunt in the village that he has to nurse, so he may as well play a bit of rugby on a Saturday to stay sane.

Whilst within the regulations, I am truly saddened by the number of clubs extensively using DR/loan players in the Championship. I understand this is a cheap method of gaining good calibre players, and Covid has exasperated this. But we are heading slowly to a situation where in many cases it will be the Barbarians versus the Barbarians on a Saturday in the Championship rather than two sets of players with some kind of allegiance to the club for whom they are playing. To be able to have 13 players from a different club in your starting XV makes a mockery of any idea of club identity or culture. With rumours of no A league competition next season this situation will get only get worse-does the Championship want to become simply part of a pathway for players to get a Premiership contract. This situation strengthens my belief that the Premiership and Championship should be 10 full time clubs and be totally separated from the Community game where hopefully the notion of ‘a rugby club’ can remain and thrive.

13 starters? I thought the limit was 10 in a match day squad? - which most sane people thought was excessive.

Cannot see why the Championship should have different rules from level 3 & 4 where the limit is 5.

Unfortunately those are the regulation we play under - they are written to suit the professional clubs not the rest of us.

So you eeither use themas best you can and try to be competitive in th Championship or national legues  - or you accept that your club is going to be playing amateur rugby at level five or below. Both of which are valid decisions for a club committee to make.

There's not a lot of "amateur" rugby being played at Level 5 these days - most are semi-pro even though they may not admit it

Ampthill 4 - 1 Jersey
Even though got the win last weekend I think Ampthill are now feeling 'comfortable' in the Champ

Coventry 5 - 1 Cornish Pirates
Pirates with injuries I do not 'buy'. They had a decent team out last week but lost their way in the second half

Ealing 5 - 0 Richmond
Feeling battered and bruised (mentally too) after last week. Richmond could make life difficult for a little while

Nottingham 0 - 5 Saracens
Hopefully Sarries rest some of the big guns after last weekend otherwise could be very heavy defeat for Nottingham

Doncaster 5 - 2 Bedford
Donny tough at home

People need to wind their neck in re DR and loan players.  This has been going on for years and I doubt many teams in the Championship have not had their fair share from time to time as needs must and this year is no different.  If they are youngsters surely thats better for rugby in general as they are playing meaningful games. This is how Bedford have had Dan Cole, Tom Youngs, Billy Twelvetrees, 5 of the starting England World Cup final squad playing for them over the years and I would like to think have helped further their career.  Whats the difference between that and some 28-32 year old journeyman who turns up, gets a 1 or if he's lucky 2 year contract and then moves on?

Yes it is getting tedious, I reckon other championship clubs will be following a similar model over the next few years

Ampthill have 4  Saracens in their starting XV tomorrow + 1 Wasp. They stand out as they are wearing their 'parent club' shirt in the club visual. But it's not unusual - the Reds XXIII for the game has 3 Prem loanees in starting XV + 2 more on bench...

The issue for me isn't using loanees, for me it is the nonsense that Hartpury pulled a couple of years ago where they drafted in most of the Gloucester team to beat Richmond to stay up. I think they had only a handful of their own players for that game.

Ealing team for Richmond tomorrow: I'm hoping that with a few folks with knocks sitting out, and an empty week next week, that we can see a host of players back for the match against Bedford. they are putting out a strong squad, though I prefer Casson at 5 to start. I'm happy to see Charlie Walker finally get off the physio club, but I think it would be good to have Bill Johnston in the squad to get some more game time in case he is needed later in the year. Still, this is a strong squad.
1 Will Davis, 2 Shaun Malton   3 Lewis Thiede, 4 Simon Linsell, 5 James Cannon, 6 Shane Buckley, 7 Simon Uzokwe, 8 Rayn Smid, 9 Craig Hampson, 10 Craig Willis, 11 JCR, 12 Matt Gordon, 13 Max Bodilly, 14 Charlie Walker, 15 David Johnston

16  Michael an Vuuren, 17 James Gibbons, 18 Kyle Whyte, 19 Harry Casson, 20 Guy Thompson, 21 Jordan Burns, 22 Luke Daniels, 23 M. Al-Jiboori.

Billy Twelvetrees wsn't a D/R player.  He was a Bedford player, signed when Leicester decided they did not want him any more.  After his year with Bedford, Leicester suddenly decided they did want him after all!

How very right you are! c.f. RFL and BARLA?
Suggest one body to 'run' Premiership and Championship combined controlling TV rights, finances, loan arrangements, salary caps (although I don't believe in any cap! ) and another to control the community, supposedly amateur, game?

A terrific advert for the Championship. The difference between the two teams, in my opinion, was down to two things. Jersey were slightly better and sharper in their handling, and Ampthill gave away far too many penalties.....again. But congratulations to both teams for entertainment and I wish Jersey a good trip home.

Not score related, but they broke away from the Ealing game to show bits of other matches during down time. I liked that.

Cov making too many errors but good to see the ref penalising slow play from Pirates on three occasions - twice for not using the ball when available and once when ambling to a lineout when their jumper was injured.

Ealing 19 (3T) - Richmond 0 - 30' Ealing takes a very swift line out, then goes through four pairs of hands to the opposite side of the field, and JCR goes 30 meters before a final offload to Craig Hampson who scores in the corner.

Ealing 26 (BP) - Richmond 0 - 32' Rayn Smid goes under the post from about 30 meters out thanks to Will Davis running a clever dummy line that opened the middle of the field. 9th try for Rayn on the year.

Craig Willis and Simon LInsell off with seemingly minor injuries just before half. Ealing once again using David Johnston as fly half. I feel vindicated in my assertion that they should have had another fly half in the squad.

Fully agree and the bit highlighted absolutely on the mark. Two well matched teams and excellent control from the match officials.

Ealing 45 (BP) - Richmond 7 (1T) -  53' Kyle Whyte scores from a pick and go after an extended period of pressure. Rayn Smid goes off injured to add to the carnage from the first half. Didn't look too bad though. Ealing has subbed pretty much everyone - hope they don't get too loose.

That’s just typical isn’t it. The moment I pick against Pirates they win. That’s why I’ve picked them in every game this season before this one. b-u-g-g-e-r. Had to be creative to get it through the filter.

Ealing 69 (BP) - Richmond 7 (1T) - FT. Ealing thoroughly defeat the visitors. Richmond kept their heads up the whole time, but no one learns anything from this.

I thought Richmond were really gutsy and squandered so many chances in Ealing 22, but ultimately a fully professional squad showed the disaparities  in this league between top three and the rest. If Richmond can keep this squad and add a couple more they will be a solid Championship team.

Why have Ealing spent so much money over the years but never quite enough, they seem to have spent the money well this year but will be pipped by a tam full of Lions!!! I hope they expand Prem to take Ealing up too, they have the resources . . more so than NF and WW.

Flipping autocorrect. ;-)

Today seemed to be the day for officials, particularly ARs being directly sworn at. Disgusting 'football player' behaviour by players in one particular incident where they 'pointed out' a technical offense at a penalty which led to a try being awarded by the referee by rushing up to and swearing at the AR closest to the offense.

I can understand that with empty grounds the regular swearing is much more obvious than usual. I know that during this match the commentary team had to apologises regularly for sweating coming through on the streaming sound from on pitch. That is irritating, but it is not what I am complaining about here.

It is that players gained advantage by swearing at officials, and were not punished or even reprimanded Wink for doing so.

Nottingham 0 Sarries 28 early in 2nd half (according to BBC Sport website)

Enjoyed the Reds' win at Ampthill today having been lucky enough to be on the list as a visiting official. It was a competitive contest almost throughout until the visitors stretched their lead in the closing stages and grabbed a BP with the last play. Reds looking more dangerous in attack than during early games in season, and a robust defence which pressured Ampthill into handling mistakes or penalty concessions which together prevented them from scoring more than their two tries...

Buy a lottery ticket mate lucky is not the word you were blessed. Howay Hartpury nothing really riding on the match on 22 May would it be a really daft idea to play in Jersey and invite your fans to see it?

Then not only are the players at fault but also the officials.  I watched Matthew Carly referee last week and he made it very clear how he expected to be spoken to.
The thought of sweating coming through the streaming doesn't bear thinking of thoughDead

HT Knights (2 tries) 12 - 19 (3 tries) Blues

The first 20 mins was pretty much all Blues, with Knights having the ball for about 1 minute. Blues have been dominant in the 1st half.

Knights from the scraps they have had have done well with it, in particular their box kicking has worked well for them. Knights have done well to keep the score to just 7 different.

Ht Doncaster 12-19 Bedford. Doncaster score with last play for the half. Think the score line flatters Donny a bit, Bedford have dominated the match but may well pay at the end for not being further ahead.

Bedford deserve the lead. Top 20 minutes at the beginning - we started to come back after that.

Donny better play better in the second half or we are deep in it

A few decisions going Knights way, but they’ve comeback well, Bedford look flat this half, not really threatened much, a fair result, but could have gone the other way too, Bedford deserved something from it.

I have to say even though we won the referee was atrocious all game. I felt he favoured Donny for a lot of the match. I say that as a Donny fan, i think we deserved to win in the end but Blues deserved a point.

I’ve got no idea how we’ve managed to lose that 5-0.

Doncaster the better team 2nd half. As I predicted at half time, blues should’ve been further ahead at half time and that it would probably cost us and so it proved as Doncaster turned their 2nd half advantage into points. Blues also kept turning down kickable opportunities when 1 point down with 10 mins left for reasons I don’t quite understand given we’ve scored about 1 maul try all season. Yellow cards and injuries at the end didn’t help as we ended up with a host of players playing out of position.

Bedford couldn’t get any momentum when the replacement giant props came on. Much taller than their opponents and penalised for “leaning”. Not sure what you’re meant to do in that case! Just muscled out of it with rolling mauls which is standard for Bedford these days but considering all that thought it shows the new players are gelling and getting better week by week. Remember this team only started playing together a week or two before the season started

Two pick and go forwards trys  by Bedford Blues. I think the first one was illegal with a three man flying wedge prior to any contact. Enjoyable game for a neutral and worth the £10.
