| Leicester Lions announce 3 new signings for the forthcoming season in Nat2 South, tighthead prop Isaac Thompson from Cardiff Met Uni and 2 former Leicester Tigers academy players have also signed Jake Sterland and Jack Vernum, all 3 are Leicestershire lads, one of whom came through the Lions mini section. |

Very happy to announce that Hull Ionians have a new Head of Rugby. Graham Steadman is taking charge at Brantingham Park. Graham is well known as an ex-Castleford and GB RL player but Graham has also worked in RU, with Ireland & Scotland at International level plus Munster, Cardiff Blues, Newcastle Falcons and latterly as Head Coach at London Scottish. Graham had 3 months with us a few seasons ago, when he massively improved our defence and we were promoted to Nat 1. again, at the end of that season. Looking forward to seeing the results of Graham bringing his skills and knowledge to the Club. ------------- All Knwoing All Seeing |

It is not the Championship Clubs that are deciding on how many come up/size of the league. It is the RFU/RFU Council-they will be telling the Championship how many are coming up. More immediate I suggest would be to ask why is the Championship the only league yet to announce its fixtures. They knew 6 weeks ago there would be 10 clubs plus either saracens or ealing and yet no word yet? The Premiership did not finish until June 26th yet their fixtures are out. |

| Lots of anti-RFU feeling again, but the info about the new structure did say that the future size of the Championship would be in a consultation due to end January 2022. It does seem that since Geoff Irvine stood down the organisation of the Championship has disintegrated. The RFU doesn't arrange the fixtures, it just confirms the weeks when they can be played. |

So if the decision will not be made until January 2022 it will mean Nat 1 will not know how many will be promoted and how many will be relegated from the new restructured 14 team league and therefore Nat 2 North and South will not know if they are playing for 2 or 3 promotion places. Why will people not recognise that what goes on at Level 1 and 2 will affect the whole of the pyramid. Surely it is not beyond the whit of the RFU or the championship to make this decision NOW, and so the lower leagues know from the start what they are playing for.

National 2 will go from 2 leagues of 16 to 3 leagues of 14. That requires 10 new teams. What happens at Level 2 then affects where the 10 come from. It looks likely that in May 2022 1 team will go up to the Premiership leaving 10 at Level 2. If they decide to follow suit and go for a 14 team League then 4 need to come up from National 1. That leaves 10 at that level so bring up 4 from National 2. Now National 2 has 28 teams so needs 14 from Level 5 to make 3 leagues of 14. It would be helpful if the system was in place now so what is Steve Lloyd who chairs the Championship doing? Total silence from them since the Griffiths report last year was thrown out.

At lower levels the number promoted is less important, a change or four teams spread between eight leagues is half a team per league. What those clubs do need to know is the shape of the leagues. And as the poster from Hampshire borders said, if they get moved into a league with mainly Dorset sides - as one example indicated - their travel goes up. I believe somewhere between one third and a half of sides will see an increase in travel. Either because they are not relegated, are promoted, or because league boundaries change. ------------- Sweeney Delenda Est |

Indeed, it isn't as simple as 'travel is reduced' - Worthing will have a large increase in travel should they be put in SW as opposed to SE where they should be. ------------- RAID ON |

So it needs to know how many teams in the division! Whoever is making the decision needs to pull their finger out - or just possibly the Championship might only have 10 next season. Don't forget any team going up will need additional budget and time to recruit. ------------- RAID ON |

Leicester Lions add a new coach. Former Lions hooker Dale Ager joins the coaching team as forwards coach for the 2021/22 season. Ager was the second Leicester Lion to play 200 National League games, the first being head coach Gareth Collins. Following his time at Lions he played for Coventry and South Leicester before hanging up the boots and joining Oadby Wyggstonians as a coach. Like Collins, Ager was part of the Lions team who narrowly missed out on promotion to National One in 09/10. Ager commented ''It's great to be back at Lions having spent so much time here as a player. To be able to come back as a coach brings great enthusiasm and excitement. When I sat down with Gaz and listened to what he wants to achieve, it was clear we both have the same passion and drive for the club that we had when playing together. With the group of players and coaches that we have here now, the offer to join was just too good to turn down.'' Collins added ''Dale knows what it means to be a Leicester Lion and what it takes to be successful at this level. I have been really impressed with what he achieved at Oadby Wyggs and was delighted when he agreed to join our group. He will bring us a wealth of experience of playing at this level and his natural drive to achieve. As a player he was tough but also technically good - attributes that I hope he can instil in our current pack. '' |
