Just a quick heads-up for anyone blessed to be living in the West Midlands (or the counties of Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire) that the West Midlands Ballot is open from 14-30 July 2021.

The Main Ballot for the unwashed masses will open in September 2021.

Rugby Sevens to be played at the "Coventry Stadium" wherever that might be.  Confused

Coventry Stadium is between Binley Woods and Brandon, just east of the city.
Bit tatty nowadays, and the centre 'green' may be a bit hard on the knees.

Nice try but as everyone knows major sporting events unbrand venues. So in 2012 the Olympics used the Greenwich Arena not the telephone company dome.

Similarly the Coventry stadium is the Coventry Building Society Arena, formerly the printer company arena.

Or as we call it, the BS Arena.

I still prefer Brandon Speedway, which is genuinely Coventry Stadium. You'd think they'd manage to rebrand the Gasworks Ground as something else, eh?

Edit though... actuallly, unless I'm very much mishtook, they're rebranding it to Coventry Arena, not Coventry Stadium.
Quite right too, the Johnny-come-latelys.

Disappointment for Sam Cross, but a tremendous opportunity for Chris Smith from Bishop's Stortford.

Good luck staging anything at Coventry Stadium these days.

The state of the BS pitch though.
Anyone would think a bunch of 15 a side matches with full scrummaging had taken place. It must have been in pretty poor shape before a ball had ever been kicked (but that's nothing new there).
Can't help thinking that some of the games should have been played on the 3G at Cov.

Pitch is awful

Can't really do a tournament such as this across 2 pitches.

Yeah, I was thinking that the pitch looked ready for replacement.  Holes all over the place, probably supplied by Scroggs' carpets of Bedworth or similar.

I thought it had recently been replaced and that was the issue with it? I may be wrong, as is often the case.
With a recent concert (Rammstein) and it having been covered for quite a while for that, and the ensuing drought conditions, I wouldn't be surprised if it was totally knackered and needing considerable rework.
Anyway, the CCFC groundsman is said to be hopping mad about it, especially with the first home match being next weekend.

Andy's usually very chilled. He has a point at the mo though.

Oh, and Eric at the BPA is usually pretty laid back too.

Well, despite all the extra work put in, tomorrow's CCFC vs Rotherham match has been called off following an EFL inspection.
Wonder what happened to the new pitch promised by W*sps?
