Predictions:
Bedford 5 - 1 Doncaster - watching Donny yesterday I’ve not got a good feeling about this fixture. If we don’t improve it will be the same story as at Cov.
Nottingham 1 - 4 Hartpury - A very close one but I’m going for Hartpury after their convincing win over Pirates.
London Scottish 1 - 4 Ampthill - A’s never as strong away from home but they’ll have targeted this one. LS are a work in progress.
Coventry 5 - 0 Richmond - Coventry at home will respond to yesterday’s loss. Richmond will be very competitive but maybe just overpowered in the last 20.
Cornish Pirates 0 - 5 Ealing - Can’t believe I’m writing this about Pirates at home but they’re not the side of the last 2/3 seasons. I hope I’m way out but Ealing comfortably for me. We need some of the Saracens spirit to reappear.

Blues 5-2 Donny my game of the week between two cracking teams loads of tries and could go either way but at home I just go with Blues

Notts 4-0 Hartpury At home Notts by 10-12 points

Scottish 4-1 Amps Could go either way but Scottish improving and due a win

Cov 4-0 Mond At home Cov by 12-15 points but Mond will make them earn it

Pirates 5-2 Ealing Probably the two best teams in the league - If Trailfinders are going to lose an odd one this could be it.

Bedford 5-2 Doncaster. If the Bedford backs are released this could be a try fest.
Nottingham 4-1 Hartpury. A good result for Hartpury this week but back down to earth next week methinks.
L Scottish 1-4 Ampthill. Why not.
Coventry 5-0 Richmond. Coventry to punish Richmond following this week’s result.
C Pirates 2-5 Ealing. Probably the game of the week.

Bedford 1-4 Doncaster. Bedford seem vulnerable to rolling mauls
Nottingham 1-4 Hartpury. Nottingham imploded at the RAG. Hartpury are tough.
L Scottish 4-1 Ampthill. Scottish improving and at home
Coventry 1-5 Richmond. Mond have found their mojo.
C Pirates 2-5 Ealing. Pirates defence is porous.

I have to say that I have changed my predictions since i have seen the weather forecast for the weekend, especially Saturday. Needless to say that I am delighted that Jersey are not playing this week as it doesn't look pleasant...either to play in or watch!!

Bedford 1-4 Doncaster....What a tough opening 2 games for Bedford who have/are playing sides who do not match their style of play. Add the weather into that and I have changed a BP win for the Blues to a tight, forward dominated away win for the Knights. I hope that I am wrong as Bedford deserved more out of their game last weekend.

Nottingham 4-1 Hartpury...This could be 4-1 either way, but will stick with home advantage.

L Scottish 1-4 Ampthill...Ampthill have looked quite good so far this season and I fancy them to win this one as well, but LS will warm into this season and the conditions could be a good leveller. Expect a tight game here.

Coventry 4-1 Richmond...Another good game on paper, but i think that Cov will prove too strong against a Mond side who never ever give up.

C Pirates 4-1 Ealing...One of the big games of the season this and I would have normally put this down as an away win. However, Pirates do like to be the underdog at home and they do like a bit of mud. If the forecast is correct, the pirates could just blaze the trail....finders

Good luck everyone. Stay safe, stay dry!!

It is meant to be dry in Bedford tomorrow afternoon/eve. Amazing foresight to move the game from Saturday!

Just noticed this on the pirates website:

Live Streaming Match Coverage:   Unfortunately, there will be no live stream provision this weekend via 247 or Facebook live. This is due to the minimum operating standards being implemented by the RFU with regards to cameras and streaming requirements for Championship games. The minimum standards are not commercially viable for Cornish Pirates to achieve at the present time and so disappointingly we will be unable to provide this valued service for our own supporters and those of the away team.  Usual coverage shall be provided by BBC Radio Cornwall plus regular updates will be posted on our twitter feed.

Another amazing piece of incompetence from the RFU, who seem to be banning streaming of the league for no particular reason. Heaven forbid it gets any exposure. Add this to the list of not allowing us to sort out our own tv deal and not getting one themselves, and not allowing us to find our own sponsor and not getting one at all. Complete shambles

Absolutely unbelievable from the RFU regarding live streaming of games. It seems they are intent on ensuring that the Championship fails. The quality of the coverage is extremely good and this is so petty and arrogant from a shambles of an organisation.

If I were Pirates or any other Championship club I would just stream and then if challenged by the RFU

I’d say well the RFU are not providing the minimum standards to promote the league and obtain sponsorship etc.  It is failing its duty.  If the RFU have time to stop clubs from self-promoting it will look very poor in the public eye and a PR disaster.

Just looked up Brandon Nansen who’s on a short term loan from Saints and he should add some more weight to the Blues pack at 121kg and 6’6”

Not sure he’s a lineout operator though, which sounds like what we needed last week. The sooner Onojaife back the better. No hooker on the bench and losing Heffernan who by all accounts had a great game last week is a big blow too. I fear for the set piece

I understand the motivation behind this but rather than follow a confrontational course it may be better to understand the issue. It may be that streaming may not meet the RFU standards because the home team do not have the necessary lights or internet streaming capacity and for good commercial reasons are unwilling to invest large sums of money to upgrade. Due to family COVID issues I am grounded and unable to travel to away matches and would happily pay double the normal entrance fee to watch even below par streamed matches but most supporters seem unwilling to pay a £10 a match. I suspect the core of this issue is money - clubs are probably unwilling or unable to upgrade infrastructure and many supporters generally want someone else to pay for their viewing enjoyment. The RFU's inability to communicate the reasons for their decisions probably compounds the matter.

As long as the supporter who is paying to watch knows that it may be difficult at times to watch. It’s no different to going to another sporting or theatrical event which has restricted viewing. The price is reduced for quality of viewing.

The RFU should be encouraging any type of viewing, we are in a digital age. If Pirates of any other club think they can run it as a loss leader to make profits later or even at a profit straightaway then let them. The RFU policy seems to be to stop innovation.

The belief is the championship is too small to attract a sponsor so if it is too small for this then it is too small (or not big enough) to damage any reputation.

I know I would pay for away games as we can’t all give up most of the day to go to the matches and with the current petrol issues getting to and back from Cornwall would be a nightmare for most.

To be fair Bluesman, your lineout didn't fail last week because of the jumpers. It failed because the ball was generally thrown into the midriff of the jumper, which made it very easy to attack from a defensive point of view. Or when the throw was higher, it was overthrown/over compensated.

That should be an easy one to put right on the training ground and as much as it is frustrating, it is understandable first competitive game of the season.

Good luck tonight. If it stays dry, this should be a cracker and i fancy a solid home display.

Ealing team to play arrrrway at Pirates: A good team. I'd have started a different prop combination, and I think that the team could use someone who is a speedster on the wing to break down the defense. Amazing to me that Luke Daniels can't get into the match day squad. Also gutted that Pirates aren't allowed to do their feed. Had been looking forward to that for weeks.

Bedford 1 - 5 Doncaster - Donny to overpower Bedford....eventually

Nottingham 1 - 4 Hartpury - Buoyant after Pirates win

London Scottish 1 - 4 Ampthill - Could easily go the other way

Coventry 5 - 0 Richmond - Coventry at home to win it in last quarter

Cornish Pirates 0 - 5 Ealing - Pirates could get a BP..possibly even 2 but they are weakened this season so will be getting some up and down results

Bedford       1 - 4 Doncaster
difficult to call but blues seem to be misfiring
Nottingham 4 - 1 Hartpury
Notts collapsed against the Mighty Mond but should edge this
L Scottish.   0 - 4 Ampthill
both sides did not impress me pre season but Amps have improved
Coventry     1 - 4 Richmond
I am biased
C Pirates     1 - 5 Ealing
I think the Pirates will get something but Ealing too strong

HT Blues (1 try) 11-17 (2 Tries) Knights

Blues go down the slope 2nd half having played a containing 1st half. Blues kicked all their ball away and the try was from a dropped grubbed kick from Knights.

Knights trying the maul with no success (there you go Bluesman) and the Exeter flop! Scoring 2 tries from the boring tactics.

The Blues defence has been pretty impressive and physical.

Looks like Jersey might be the only potential challengers to Ealing. Early days but looks like London Scottish will the strugglers with everyone else able to beat anyone on their day

If Jersey can sneak a win at Doncaster next week, I reckon the Jersey Ealing game could be a battle of 2 undefeated teams

Good win for the Blues, we were too negative in the first half for me and then didn’t back ourselves in the last play. Really should’ve gone for the 5 points. At least we got the win, but that is potentially 2 points dropped in the first 2 games.

Blues maul defence was good and I think forced Knights to go for the 2nd 3 points when they were 5 a drift.

Amazing how each time Blues had a penalty in a potentially scoring position a Doncaster player needed "treatment " the one time Sir let the penalty be taken to touch it was a Lazarus like recovery from the stricken forward who raced the width of the pitch to join the line out.

I love the thought, but very early days yet. There are some seriously good teams in this division who can beat anyone on their day and I mean anyone.
Without an ‘elite’ club, this could be a really open and close fought campaign.

Good to be back to normal last night, the atmosphere was great with an attendance of 2825. Although not convinced if the NHS cardholders were counted.

It will be a battle with Coventry of who tops the average attendance table.

Absolutely, Doncaster clearly don't want to be part of a fast game.  I'm not sure how you stamp it out, referees must fear rushing a player back into the game who's genuinely injured.

The joke was we had to wait for Knights players but when we had a lineout and our player (a prop) who had a shoelace issue, it had to taken it without him. You would have thought an ex prop would have gone easy on a fellow front row club member.

Pirates (2T) 12 - 7 (1T) Ealing - Ealing sounds to be immensely sloppy, while Pirates seem to be very up for it. I was always worried about this kind of performance by Ealing after a week off. Ealing have piled up huge numbers of penalties.

YC Ealing against Hampson for a deliberate knock on while trying to intercept.

FT Pirates (4) 15 - 12 (1) Ealing

Ealing could have got a draw but 1 or 2 points isn’t much difference.

Yes Ealing had a number of penalties 5m out from Pirates line but couldn’t get over it and didn’t take the 3 to draw. Pirates eventually got the turnover.

If you consider Pirates as the most credible threat to Ealing a draw would have been 1 more point for Ealing and 2 points less for Pirates. You have to appreciate their confidence in going for the win however but brilliant result by Pirates not many teams will beat Ealing this term.

After the disappointment of losing last week at Hartpury the Pirates produced an almost faultless 70 minutes to deservedly hold a 15-7 lead against promotion favourites Ealing.
As Ealing emptied their bench and scored to reduce the home advantage to 3 points they started forcing the pirates back. It took a huge defensive effort from the home side to prevent Ealing from crossing their line to snatch the win at the death.
A good advert for championship rugby in a tight physical game well officiated by Sara Cox.

Anyone who thought Ealing were going to have an enjoyable stroll to the Premiership has been well and truly put right today. That won’t be the only away game they lose either. Ealing are under immense pressure this season and I think it could tell on them. Any away game against a top 5 team and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Ealing get turned over.

The key was that the Pirates more than matched a much bigger and heavier Ealing 8 at set piece and breakdown and the defence was brilliant. When your team play with that kind of passion and commitment it warms the heart!

I'm quite concerned about some of the selection that I'm seeing this year. Maybe there are injuries that I'm unaware of, but I'm not now, nor have I ever been, a fan of Kyle Whyte. However, he seems to be a selection favorite. With him in, the Ealing pack was getting humped. As soon as Thiede came in, the pack stabilized. I think it is obvious to most fans that he isn't a better scrummager than several other options. On top of that, as I think I said before the match, the Ealing wings are NOT fast enough. You saw this in their getting abused on the 50:22 kicks several times. It wasn't a disastrous game for Ealing, but they should have been able to pull it out, and with the advantage in squad spend, they really shouldn't lose many games.

I thought at the start of the season that Ealing would lose a few games, Pirates away being as hard as it gets in the Champ. I suspect they could lose to Donny and maybe Jersey too. However those sides will lose more than 3 games I think. Should make for a very competitive season though and I agree with the poster above, Ealing are under a lot of pressure and expectation. Let’s see how they deal with it.

Quite agree TF. Ealing are still the team to beat this season, although that was an incredible effort by Pirates.
This division has just got a little more open.

Ealing do generally struggle a bit on grass, they need to get on some park pitches to have some training sessions! I do think Blues can turn Ealing over too, perhaps even Ampthill & Nottingham mud baths but Ealing will win enough away games to come out on top and be unbeaten at home.

It is the away games that will matter with the top teams generally winning all the home ones.

I know it is early on in this season but 3 weeks in, so 15 games and only 2 away wins, Ampthill @ Scottish and Reds @ Scottish. A theme?

Fully agree 5 teams have 9 or 10 points already and they don't include Ealing! Every team in the league could raise their game and beat any other on a given weekend particularly on heavy grounds later in the season and I think Cov may have the best chance of beating Ealing at VW - brilliant back row, the fast ground will suit them and they will bring a huge following.

You will throw a load more cash at it and if that does not work a load more.

With the money that Ward has had to spend in the last 5 years, its quite a feat not to have got out the division

And.. you  want to play them week in week out.

If you get into the Prem, whats the answer going to be each week.. we had XYZ this week..

One of the frequent moans you hear from the relegated Prem side is that each week the Champ team “plays like it’s their cup final”, as if the Champ teams are supposed to lie back and have their bellies rubbed! LOL

For Ealing, if they are seen as the team to beat, then I actually think this is as good preparation as any for a season in the Prem as they would have to be at their very best just to stay in each game.

I make no presumption though, only that it will go down to the last two rounds I think.

No excuses but by your logic it is all based on money . The Premiership sides named all had far larger budgets than Ealing Trailfinders and in some cases the added financial parachute payments.
We could all take the attitude that it is a lost cause and accept an eternity in the Champioship but at least support a club who are giving it a real shot instead of emphasising the negatives .

The only club Ealing could not compete with was Saracens, all the others they had a 50% chance, which they came out the wrong side. Ealing sign squads to win and not be best of the rest, if they were doing the latter they could’ve saved a lot of money and still achieved it.

This season there is no excuse. I am sure they make it but really they should have done it in a dominant way - unbeaten, now Pirates must be the only loss.

If Ealing want to stand a chance in the Premiership they need a decent DoR. Perhaps Ben Ward could be their assistant and learn from someone more experienced.

An early contender for try of the season. What makes it so remarkable is that Bedford won their own lineout

Clap It shocked the Knights defence as well!

I actually think the issue is the Blues have had 3 pre season games at Goldington Road and then they hit a flatter pitch they felt a bit dizzy!
