After a week off, this interesting season will resume next weekend:
Friday 22nd October:
Nottingham v Cornish Pirates - 7.45pm

Saturday 23rd October:
Jersey v Ampthill - 2.30pm
Bedford v Richmond - 3pm
Coventry v Ealing - 3pm
London Scottish v Hartpury - 3pm

Donny have a bye, straight after a week off, that’s an absolute joke. 3 weeks without a game in a supposedly professional league, shambolic. There needs to be 14 teams in this league next season.

Predictions:
Nottingham 1 v 4 Cornish Pirates - Nottingham at home are a good side. Pirates will have to earn this one
Jersey 5 v 0 Ampthill - Not many teams will get much on the Island this season. Jersey’s very good pack to boss this
Bedford 5 v 1 Richmond - Richmond have been very competitive this year in every game but Bedford are starting to click. At home Blues will pile on the points, but probably let a fair few in, as is their wont
Coventry 1 v 4 Ealing - head over heart selection this one. Ealing are vulnerable after a week off but they’ll just edge this at a ground that they play well at normally. Come on Cov, make me look a fool like you did against Donny.
London Scottish 1 v 4 Hartpury - With a week off to regroup, I would hope Scottish are more competitive in this one. Pury do struggle away from home so there’s a chance of a surprise I think.

Nottingham 1-4 Cornish Pirates. A close game but the Pirates should just edge it.
Jersey 5-1 Ampthill. My head overrides my heart. I think the As can score four tries but not stay within seven points of their hosts. But they did beat the Pirates away last season……
Bedford 5-0 Richmond. Bedford are on the up, and at Goldington Road, in front of a big crowd, I can see their talented backs having a field day.
Coventry 0-5 Ealing. I just think Ealing have got off to a slow start and will get better, whilst Coventry are not yet able to put out their first choice fifteen.
London Scottish 0-4 Hartpury College. The away side to claw a victory, pulling away in the second half.

Nottingham 4-1 Pirates Should be a brilliant game going either way
Jersey 4-1 Ampthill - The local favourite returns so another really close contest - One Charlie Beckett there's only one Charlie Beckett - I wish he was still wearing red.
Bedford 5-2 Richmond Home advantage should be enough but Mond to score four tries and could win it
Coventry 4-1 Ealing This is one of a handful of matches I think Trailfinders may struggle
London Scottish 4-1 Hartpury Home advantage should give Scottish a first win

Don’t worry I think this is one of Ealing’s easiest away matches as it is a home from home with the artificial pitch. The old Coventry mud patch then I think it would have been a different matter.

No pressure mate I think Cov can beat them along with Blues, Donny, Pirates and of course Jersey who could beat anyone in the league on their day (and lose to anyone when its not their day). I think Ealing will win the league regardless as they have easily the best squad and the other teams will beat each other more consistently and drop more points.

Nottingham 1 v 5 Cornish Pirates - Pirates can beat Ealing, Ealing triumphed over Nottingham. This math works, right?
Jersey 5 v 1 Ampthill - Jersey seem on good form, and will defend their island.
Bedford 5 v 1 Richmond - Bedford seem to have re-discovered their running rugby with Tapley flying all over.
Coventry 1 v 5 Ealing - I like Ealing on the artificial pitch. I even managed to get a pass from the wife to go watch. Lots of driving tomorrow.
London Scottish 0 v 5 Hartpury - No faith in Scottish from me.

Ealing team for tomorrow against Coventry: A virtually unchanged side with only Harry Casson replacing Craig Willis on the bench. I like the idea of continuity, and it is hard to argue with picking a side that scored 12 tries in their last outing. I'll be making this away trip, and would appreciate any advice on parking at or around the BPA (I know that there is on-site parking, but does that fill up?)

1. James Gibbons

2. Shaun Malton

3. Lewis Thiede

4. Simon Linsell

5. James Cannon

6. Jack Digby

7. Simon Uzokwe

8. Rayn Smid

9. Craig Hampson

10. Steven Shingler

11. Angus Kernohan

12. Pat Howard

13. Max Bodilly

14. Charlie Walker

15. David Johnston

Replacements

16. Campher

17. Smith

18. Whyte

19. Casson

20. De Wee

21. Burns

22. Bird-Tulloch

23. Al-Jiboori

Heavy changes for Coventry as replacements are drafted in to replace injured injury replacements. Notable gaps at full back, front row, and back row. Corporal Carrot's prediction looking even less likely. At least by the second half all the squad will have known each other for an hour.

Nottingham 1 v 5 Cornish Pirates  - Which Pirates show up?
Jersey 5 v 2 Ampthill - could be close
Bedford 5 v 0 Richmond - Bedford ( Saints A - look very strong across the board!)
Coventry 0 v 5 Ealing - Ealing starting to pick up momentum
London Scottish 0 v 5 Hartpury - Pury a top half team this year.

Cov look strong to me as well mate - I fail to see how Tom Howe can be described as a gap at Full Back and with Bainbridge & Burrows in the backrow they will be really competitive! Cov supporters are clearly glass half full lads but for me if they get behind their team that Cov side can beat Ealing.

Trinder and Boulton with Richardson (one of the best props in the league last season) on the bench doesn’t sound too bad a front row either! How many nailed on starters are Cov actually missing? Every team gets injuries and can’t remember the last time Bedford actually had all the players I would consider first choice available. We’re missing about 5 starters at the moment with another making his first appearance of the season off the bench.

And when you said there had been heavy replacements to replace injured injury replacements. There are 3 changes from Coventry’s last game. Aspland-Robinson is available again, so he has replaced Mitchell who’s moved to the bench. Poole is available again, so he’s replaced your hooker who’s moved to the bench. And you’ve lost a prop to Sale, who have sent one back in return. So overall that should be an upgraded team!

At a quick glance, six, (Brown, Emery,  Forsyth, Jeannot, Jones, Nayalo) but am only counting Cov contracted players in that. The 'churn' in loans is ridiculous so far this season, and can't be helping (two more in tomorrow along with a couple of our own academy boys).
No excuses though, Cov are not having a good season by any reckoning.

Sorry for the thread hijack but a score from the Premiership caught my attention… Northampton 66 Worcester 10. That’s the idea of “more entertaining “ according to the blazer brigade. The Premiership is getting blow-out scores every week and I’m loving it. I’m loving the fact that the reasons for ringfencing are blowing up in their faces week after week. Wonder what some smart a***s are thinking now?.

The ref sin binning of 2 Bedford players for trying to rip the ball out an isolated Richmond players hands whilst not letting it go probably doesn’t help. Young ref out of his depth

Agreed about the referee needing more experience and actually not assisted very well. An assistant ref can’t referee a scrum offence at coming in at an angle when the scrum in is the middle of the pitch.

Although Blues looked like they just had to turn up to get 5 points.

Totally deserved their 2 points today and to be fair probably deserved more. The Ampthill No. 10 ran the show. Top quality that lad.
Disappointed with the bloke in the middle today, thought that he was making up laws at times.
Clearly Jersey only wanted to play in the first 10 and the last 10 in this game!!
Both sides butchered some scores and a draw is a fair result if you are a Red.
Well played the Mob

Ampthill played very well and were unlucky not to take the win, but credit to Jersey.  It certainly wasn't going their way.  Ampthill had done their homework and used it effectively but Jersey stuck to their beliefs when it would have been easy to give in and they managed to some how claw back a draw.  That was impressive and pleasing.  Well played both sides and great to see the legend that is Charlie Beckett.

I’ve had to google that. No, completely self inflicted. Richmond will never get a more accommodating home team as this again. Kept giving the ball back though over/under throw line outs, passes to nowhere under no pressure, and they fed off the mistakes. 17 point were scored during the first yellow card (for a first time offence) and it was catch up from then on. Bedford had 2 yellow cards for first time offences…. Richmond committed 3 penalties at the end under their posts and nothing. Saying that Richmond deserved the win and we’re just better. Bedford players obviously read this forum and believed their own hype. A bit of a reality check. Wouldnt want to be in the Bedford changing rooms at the end

Brilliant two proper teams scrap it out but the best team won. That's how rugby should be played.  Amps easily outplayed Jersey today and Jersey probably made a record of pens conceded. The coaches seemed to notice this last week against Donny but perhaps they didn't bother to mention it to their players. Confirmation of the well known fact there's only one Charlie Beckett who should be still playing in a red shirt if the management at Jersey were half as good at keeping quality as finding new playing assets.

Ealing 73 - Coventry 24 (3T) - 5-0 FT. I made the long, long drive to Coventry (awful traffic, nearly 3 hours), but was rewarded with a very nice performance by Ealing. I was a fan of the squad continuity this week, and it worked well. We won't see that next week though, as three Ealing backs had to leave the match due to injury. As they only had 2 subs in the backs, it was necessary to move Rayn Smid from 8 to 12, and Jordan Burns played on the wing for the whole second half.

Ealing were pretty sharp on attack, and opportunistic in defense with 2 long range intercept tries. Ealing did seem to get the rub of the green from the officials, but overall their scrum was dominant.
Score line was similar to the one against Nottingham, but Coventry were far better opposition.
Really no complaints from me. First time in Coventry. I liked the number of separate bar stations around the BPA, and I liked how close to the pitch you could get.  Had a good natter with an old chap who had supported Cov since the 50s. Catering could use some work - a coffee took nearly 45 minutes to procure.

No complaints from me about the result or the ref today, Richmond were good for the win, playing a fast paced game, with a pretty solid defence.
We weren’t at our best, too many errors, poor line out, missed tackles and touch missed numerous times when clearing our lines. From memory, I think Richmond scored 2 tries from clearances that missed touch and one from a line out turnover.
Richmond’s scrum was strong, there 15 always looked threatening, as did the 14, better side edged it on the day. Looking forward to the return fixture, and a bit of payback Wink

I want you all to line up in a circle and pair up in three's alphabetically by height.

At last a sporting response. To the other Bedford bloggers, line outs, getting touch etc are as much part of the game as brilliant back play. Blaming the ref is always a cheap shot.

It is difficult to understand how you could destroy Ampthill the other week then lose to Richmond at home, and Ampthill could look utterly clueless against the Blues and then fly to Jersey and get a draw in a game they probably should have won.

Predicting the results at the moment appears to be a mugs game.
